"I asked Chat GPT" — well, I asked Mother Nature and she said your brain and soul are rotting inside of you.
I will never grow tired of loving you.
Zbigniew Herbert, tr. by Czeslaw Milosz & Peter Dale Scott, from “Hen,”

An arcane focus is a deeply personal choice with an unlimited variety of options. Many choose to opt for the humble wand or staff, the classic orb, the ever trusty grimoir, but it could really be anything. The oft overlooked deck of cards is a good focus, as are resplendant amulets or rings. One of my favories of course is an alternative to the orb, the skull, which functions like an orb but is a skull with gems for eyes.
One may also desire a thematically appropriate focus, it won't directly enhance your magic, but never underestimate the power of feeling awesome, it can actually boost your magic! A fire mage may use a candle, an earth mage might prefer a natural gemstone, necromancers often use bones.
Never underestimate the practicality that can come with choosing a good focus, many battlemages also integrate their focus with their more traditional weapon, such as a sword or dagger. A grimoir is nothing more than a spellbook used as a focus. Many staves also have magic built into them as to enable quick casting.
