i NEED people to realise foreshadowing is. in fact. a literary device. and not a Bad Thing. the audience picking up on your hints is a Good Thing. because. it makes the story and it’s conclusion make sense. and some people will not see those but enjoy seeing them on a second read through. red herrings are one thing but if your novel consists of nothing but red herrings it’s not a coherent story it’s just a collection of paragraphs that don’t actually plausibly link to one another. you're not fighting with the audience you don’t look clever you look like you don’t know how basic fiction works. be vulnerable for once in your goddamn life and don't treat writing like a game to be won where the audience losing is a good thing.
If the audience loses you lose, but harder

Something I've noticed a lot of people are missing is Alastor was heartbroken too. He respected Vincent, he says he was the closest to an equal that he could imagine—Alastor was growing comfortable with Vox, he felt that he finally had someone he could trust to be himself around. Vincent, unaware of the effect it's going to have, asks to be partners, and that's when it all falls apart for Al. To him, relationship = transaction. What he feels here is, I put my trust in you, but you're just like the others. He pushes Vox away because Al feels like the one person he decided not to use ended up, from his perspective, trying to use him.
it doesn't have to get done, it just has to be perfect
Shirt that says ASK ME ABOUT WHO BOTTOMS IN ANY SHIP I TALK ABOUT on the front and MORE OFTEN THAN NOT I DON'T THINK THEY HAVE PENETRATIVE SEX REGARDLESS BUT THERE'S NO HARM IN DOUBLE CHECKING on the back
You will never 100% idiotproof your creative work & if you try to, you will only succeed in smothering the soul out of it. btw
Writing a million words doesn't make you a good writer. But, anyone who makes it to a million words will inevitably have something going for them. If you're a bad writer at a million words you'll probably be bad in an artistically interesting way.
Btw if you didn't catch it Oz and Dorothy being named that way is to show how lost in Laurent's Emerald City he is while he ignores the detachment rule they continuously try to remind him of. He's playing pretend (well yes) in a world where everything is perfect and he gets whatever he wants. He gets lost in it and that's what puts him on the other end; he learns the hard way why they say all that, why earnesty isn't a luxury con men get in more ways than he accounted for. He loses his wizard and his girl and his emerald-colored glasses slip off and he tucks his heart back in his chest, and Edamura is the only thing that can bring his Oz (the man, and the place, the perspective) back. But this time he doesn't get cocky, learned his lesson, and he keeps his fondness in his chest pocket, and tells Edamura to do the same, knowing he himself wants all but that and that Edamura, born of Oz, will never listen to him
