That’s true,” he nodded in agreement. He couldn’t help but raise her eyebrow at her, “well can’t you leave a spare key with one of your neighbours? Maybe one who’s in a lot.” He shrugged, he still didn’t know many people who lived here. As she refused his offer he shrugged with a soft smile, “alright, suit yourself. I’m Leo by the way.” He finally put the box down on the stairs as he held a hand out to her.

“I don’t know my neighbors well enough for that. That’s just welcoming an invasion of privacy” she shook her head, in no way open to the idea. “Celina” She returned his smile, taking his hand and shaking it firmly. “Have you lived here long? I don’t think I’ve seen you before”

“Sorry, I don’t drink coffee so tea’s pretty much all I have. There’s some juice too if you prefer that. I meant as in our rooms are physically close to each other. Oh, thanks!” he exclaimed, not noticing the implied tone of the compliment since he was used to playing a variety of things. “Alright, to be fair that’s what I’m doing too. This is how I get my exercise. Unless I’m dancing, then I don’t bother.”

“Would it be shocking to say I’ve never had tea? I’ve been too into coffee for so long to ever feel the need to try it. But I do like juice.. oh, our rooms. Right. I knew that” Celina couldn’t help feeling slightly embarrassed as she looked away momentarily. “You’re welcome. Oh, dancing! So that’s what you’re doing up there..” she trailed off at the realization, having being curious about what the noises above her had been. “I’ve met quite a few residents on these stairs doing the exact same thing. Who said you need a gym in your building?”

Holding onto the strap of her purse against her shoulder, Molly’s hip jutted out, crinkling her nose at her. “I’m not in the business of breaking into another person’s apartment. Unless there was an actual business for it, but instead I’m left with knowledge helpful only when I’m an idiot, or run into other idiots.” Molly shrugged her shoulders up and down, though her gaze narrowed at the question. “Please don’t tell me you’re serious.”

“I’m not going to lie to you, everything you just said went over my head because I’m too focused on worrying about you breaking into my apartment. How did you even learn to pick a lock?” she asked, half worryingly and half curiously. “I wasn’t serious” she assure her, laughing nervously in a way that suggested she was lying.

Molly’s eyebrow slowly arched up until she gave the girl a slow nod. “Do you want me to pick your lock? I could do that,” she offered casually, shrugging a shoulder. “At least you’ll be inside until they can make you a new key.” She paused. “Don’t worry. It’s knowledge I save for emergencies. Or, in this case, it’s not as much of one and more I want you to get out of my way, but whatever the motive, it makes us both happy, right?”

“You can do that?” she asked, looking over with a sightly worried expression. “I would say yes but I’m a little apprehensive about showing you which apartment I live in now that I know you can pick locks” Celina laughed nervously. “Maybe you could close your eyes when doing it?” she suggested, knowing it would likely come cross as a joke even though it wasn’t. “I can just stand up and move out of your away, not a problem”

Leo flashed the young woman a smile to show it was okay. “Don’t worry about it, it’s fine. Maybe you left it in your apartment?” He asked her curiously before looking around. He could hardly leave her out here, it wouldn’t be polite. “You’re more than welcome to wait for them in my place, if you want?”

“That’s a definite possibility but by the time I find out, I’ll have a new one anyway” she shrugged, tossing her head back a little in laughter. “I’m definitely the sot of person who should keep a spare key outside their apartment under some weird flowerpot or something but then I’m much too paranoid about burglars to ever do that. Oh, no, it’s okay! Hopefully they shouldn’t be too much longer and if I wait here, I’ll know when they arrive”

“Well I mean that was me sort of offering my place and a cup of tea. I mean we’re pretty close right? You’re the one just below me I think… which, incidentally, sorry. You know… just in general.” He rubbed the back of his neck with a sheepish smile as he acknowledged how much noise he tended to make. “In that case I can just move but honestly anyone who takes the stairs instead of the elevator to get to the fourth floor is just crazy.”

“A cup of tea? Weird but alright. We are? I guess that depends what you define as close, no offense. Yes, that’s me. Oh, no, no, it’s fine. You’re really.. great at instruments” Celina attempted to compliment him, realizing she hadn’t managed to work out what he was actually playing up there yet. “I actually do that sometimes. I don’t really work out so if I‘m ever feeling extra lazy, I just take the stairs and consider that good enough for the week”

“It’s more annoying than odd, especially when people are trying to get past but I guess losing your key is a good enough excuse to take up the stairs. Shouldn’t you, like, retrace your steps or something?”

“I’m sorry” Celina replied with a genuine look of apology. “I was meaning to get up whenever I heard someone coming but I got a bit lost in the book. I tried that, no luck. The irony is that they will probably turn up as soon as I get a new set cut but” Not finished her sentence, Celina just simply shrugged.

          “Oh!” The exclamation drops from between chapped lips, brown eyes peeping around the large block of wood clasp between slender fingers. “Well, I don’t judge where people want to read —–a good place is read is a good place to read.” Cue a quirk of a smile as Jaden edges by the woman as best she can, and there are definitely splinters in her skin. “Do you —uh— mind grabbing the door?”

“I probably wouldn’t choose here under normal circumstances but it is surprisingly comfy” Celina let out a small chuckle, sliding herself further along the stair to make room. “What door?” she asked cluelessly at first. “Oh, your door? Um, sure” Getting to her feet, she placed the book down where she had been sitting and looked around at the doors before her. “Which one is it?”

Yeah it is a weird place, I nearly tripped over you carrying this box up. You should be careful. How did you get locked out?

“Sorry, sorry! It’s been over half an hour already and I was honestly just tired of standing. I would have moved if you asked me to” Celina insisted, shuffling herself over further to make more room for him to pass. “I lost my key somewhere”

A little out of breath from climbing the stairs, Guy listened to her for a moment. “You could just stay with someone else for a bit, right? I mean you’re welcome over at my place until the lock guy comes,” he suggested but right after he finished he instead found himself dropping down onto the stairs next to her. Much though he didn’t want to admit it, he was really tired. “Or I could keep you company? Unless I’m in the way. I’m not in the way, right?”

“I could, hypothetically, but I haven’t lived here long enough to know anyone to the point that I feel I could just turn up at their door and invite myself to stay. Some might say two months is long enough but maybe I just don’t make friends quickly” Realizing she was speaking her thoughts aloud, Celina cleared her throat and turned back to the topic at hand. “You’re not in my way. Anyone trying to get up the stairs might have a different opinion but we can cross that bridge when we come to it”

Grace was heading up to her apartment when she saw someone sitting on the stairs, reading. “Nah, you can read just about anywhere. That’s the great thing about books, you can carry them around just about anywhere.” She laughed when she mentioned her next comment. “Hopefully he comes soon so you’re not stuck out here for long. Did you check the last places you went?”

Celina laughed a little with the other girl. “Yes, I suppose you’re right. I just didn’t want to be in anyone’s way. I did but sadly, no luck. I’m not surprised, I’m always losing things. I think I could win an award for most things lost over a lifetime.. if that was a thing”

Looking up from where she sat on the stairs, Celina sighed softly. “Okay, I know this might seem like an odd place to sit and read but.. I may or may not have lost my key and I’m waiting for the key making guy.. what do you call that, a locksmith? Whatever, I’m I’m waiting for him to come help me”
