Finally uploading my short animation that I finished a month ago, called The Waffle Woman! I went through the entire production process with this project, from story, character design, to background painting and animation. I think I have a good feeling towards it more than any other I’ve done because I determined from the beginning that I wouldn’t fall behind and to be strong in my decision making and productivity.

I had a spare strip of canvas and I wanted to do a quick little painting to take a break from school projects and give some time to my personal work. It’s about the size of a large bookmark! I had Native North American/Aboriginal tribe artwork in mind when I was drafting my design. I wanted it to be a blocky, abstract visual, but as I was drawing, I started shifting to different images in my head, from children’s book designs to harry potter etc etc. and it turned out like this lol. I named it “Binding Contract” but I didn’t like how it kinda sounded oppressive, so I changed it to a phrase “The Phoenix and the Snake strike a deal”...I dunno. It happened within just 2ish hours but I’m quite proud of it haha!

A lil beach study based off of google images of “pink sand beaches”! I was introduced to photobashing for the first time in one of my classes this semester so I also tried that out with the texture of the sand, water and sky. The extreme saturation is kind of outside of what I like in a style, but it was still a fun test!

Gouache sketches of some neighborhood flowers <3. This was during summer and I really had to FORCE myself to get out of the house despite the heat. I walked for around 3o minutes, thinking I wasn’t going to do any drawing, but I found the cutest little patch of fuchsia bubs in a tiny shaded area at the last minute!

Headshot studies of actress Park Shin-Hye in The Royal Tailor. I looooove Korean dramas, and I grew up watching historical ones in particular. It’s a really sad and beautiful movie. Love. I was dusting off some rust with these studies so they honestly don’t look like the actress at ALL but I’m still proud of the attempt hehe.
