this book series is absolutely beautiful. it’s got a perfect balance of adventure and a consistent, driven storyline with a gorgeous romance arc and a whole bunch of side stories delving into each of the characters. a warning for some parts of the story; it gets pretty gory at times. other than that, though, i’d really recommend it.

please, i am BEGGING you, read this series. you won’t regret it.

Searching for a file on an old drive, I found the full script for this Moorehawke graphic novel. I’m up to my ears in edits and have two novels lined up to write after next week’s deadline - but maaaan, I haven’t drawn properly in an age and I LOVE this story SO MUCH. Very tempted to just start drawing it again.

Book Review 15 - Resonance

Resonance by Celine Kiernan  is set in Ireland in 1890 and tells the story of two immortal young men, one of whom is Harry Houdini who serve and must feed an angel. They are ruthless and cruel to all those that they come across and only care for the small family that they are a part of and try to free themselves from their duty to their all powerful master. 

This is a highly imaginative and dark fantasy full of magic, twists, friendship, loss and love and if anyone is looking for a fantasy story with a darker side this is one book you should definitely check, especially if you are interested in Harry Houdini.

Eine Reihe, die wirklich underrated ist, ist die Moorhawke-Trilogie von Celine Kiernan. Der erste Teil “Schattenpfade” handelt von Wynter, die nach einer langen Reise mit ihrem Vater in ihr Heimatkönigreich zurückkehrt und dort alles völlig verändert vorfindet. Der König herrscht nun mit eiserner Hand und sein Sohn der Kronprinz ist verschwunden. Gemeinsam mit Razi, dem unehelichen Sohn des Königs, und Christopher, einem Freund von Razi, entdeckt sie geheime Machenschaften und steht dann vor einer Wahl: Beugt sie sich dem Willen ihres Königs, ihres Vaters oder lüftet sie das Geheimnis, welches ihr Königreich zerreißt?

Die Geschichte spielt in einer mittelalterlich anmutenden Fantasywelt mit Steampunk-Elementen und greift auch mythologische Motive auf. Sie ist spannend, lustig und voller liebenswürdiger, gut geschriebener Charaktere. Wirklich nur zu empfehlen!
