Komaeda laid awake in his room for hours, restlessly tossing back and forth before settling on his back, facing the ceiling. He was tired, and it seemed like colours danced around his vision, little strings and bands that only proved to tell how far gone he was.
Hours and hours later, after what seemed like years, the sun began to rise. Birds flew outside and perched on the wilting tree outside his window, singing happy songs that made him wish he had taken his headphones out of his bag. And he still hadn’t had a wink of sleep.
He covered his face with his pillow, smothered all his thoughts and worries away. One hour of sleep. That’s all he needed. If he didn’t get it, there was no telling what time he would pass out later. After battling with himself in slow, sleepy thoughts, his mind began to numb, and he could feel himself drifting away. He didn’t dare urge himself on, in case he jinxed it. Slowly… slowly…
—Beeeeep. Beeeeep. Beeeeeeeep.
He practically almost hit his head jumping out of bed, any chance of him getting a wink of sleep gone within just a few moments. How unlucky… he thought, rubbing his pale fists against his sunken eyes. He would look even more like a monster today.
"Nng…" he groaned, sliding properly off his bed. He missed the warmth of his sheets and the plushness of his mattress already. Getting dressed is an easy tack, but finding the energy to do it and actually leave his room is another story. But the beeping of the dormitory bell was still a ring in the background, and he knew he had to hurry. To not be a burden…
He grabbed the keys to his room, just in case, and stepped outside. The halls were relatively empty—most of the other students probably had already awoken and left, or hadn’t found the willpower to get out of bed yet.
He does spot one person, though—one elegant, mysterious person.
"Celes-san!" he greets, giving a small, polite wave. "Were you woken rudely by the alarm as well? Ah, it’s tedious, isn’t it?"
