It had been another long, but satisfying day for Betty. She walked out of her last class after answering all the questions of those students who stayed behind to talk to her, and was ready to go home when she heard a familiar voice. “Pepper!” she cried out once she saw her friend. “Yeah, I was just finishing up for the day. What are you doing over in this neck of the woods?”

Her smile deepened as she walked up to the other woman. “Passing through actually,” Pepper admitted. “It might be easier to go around, but knowing Tony I’d get to engineering only to find he was over here pestering Bruce or you or one of the others.” She gave a laughing shrug. “So it actually saves time . . . even if I do wonder about potential explosions.”

Pepper walked into the science department, planning to pass through on her way to engineering. Someone handed her a requisition form and she scanned it quickly. Enough of the family keywords were present to assure her the request came from either Tony or one of the children, so she signed off. Walking past them, her eyes spotted a familiar figure. She smiled and called out. “Betty Ross! I should have guessed I’d see you here.”

best memory with your family?

It would be hard to pick just one, but I’d have to say any time all of us were in the same place at the same time with no business or trouble or world shaking events hanging over us. Sounds simple, I know, but that kind of quiet togetherness almost never happens - too much responsibility or frenetic creativity between all of us.

LEO LAUGHED EASILY alongside his mother. despite the light tone of the conversation, he knew her words were one hundred percent true. his mother always worrying about everything and everyone, he still wasn’t sure how the woman did it all, but he truly wished she would take some time for herself here and there. “come on, mom. you are a cool mom.” only he knew how much he had suffered growing up with all his friends making sure he knew just how hot they thought his mother was. “but it is a party, so you should be enjoying yourself. let someone else worry about the possible alcohol poisoning for the night, yeah?” he suggested, green eyes set on his mother. “all we can do, really,” he chuckled. “even if shit happens, we’ll be fine.”

“Moms are never cool at parties,” she laughed. Leaning back, she crossed her legs before taking a sip of her martini. “And believe it or not, I have been enjoying myself. A party I didn’t have to plan or watch over? Plus I’ve gotten to see some fun and interesting costumes. The kids are creative.” She gave another quick laugh. “And if you haven’t seen Steve yet, make sure you find him. Your father’s never going to let him live this down.”

“Yeah, I heard about the Steve Rogers version but I have yet to see it.” He wrapped his arms around Pepper’s waist and glanced around as if he hoped to see him now. When he didn’t, he looked at Pepper’s face and returned the kiss on her cheek. “But I’m the superior one, right?”

“You’ll love it,” she assured him. “Make sure he shows you the goatee.” At his question, she wrapped her own arm around him. “Absolutely.” She gave him a smile both soft and deep. “Just don’t let it go to your head.”

Seeing pepper, he smiled under the mask he was wearing before lifting it up to reveal a horrible, and soon to be taken off, goatee made with face makeup. Leaning against the wall, he cleared his throat with exaggeration before talking in a Tony Stark impersonation “Of Course I did this one Pepper, After spending around three days in my lab with only Dum-E as my costume helper, How could I not go as the most amazing Avenger?” Trying not to crack a smile at the last sentence, tried so hard not to break character, as he grabbed from a pocket some sunglasses and put them on, nose in the air. He knew his friend didn’t act like this all the time, but it was fun to tease the man.

She couldn’t keep the laughter down as she watched the performance. It spilled over and she concentrated on not spilling her drink. “You’re terrible,” she chuckled, rising to join him. “So very bad.” She glanced around, trying to see if she could find Tony. He had to see this. Not seeing him, she turned back to Steve. “If only I had my camera...” Wicked amusement twinkled in her eyes. “I’ll have to check with security to see if the cameras caught a good picture of this.”
