Not by Big Thief is so incredibly Headcase coded. It’s THE Headcase song. Henry spends most of Season 1 trying to solve Hal like an engineering problem. He makes gifts, robots, spreadsheets, and elaborate plans because he assumes love has a logical cause he can identify and optimize. But as their relationship grows, Hal spends months trying to rationalize why Henry is suddenly different in her eyes.

"It isn't because he saved me." No. "It isn't because he apologized." Not entirely.

"It isn't because he stopped being annoying." He absolutely did not stop being annoying.

"It isn't because he's brilliant."

She already knew that. "It isn't because he makes me laugh." He always did, even if she tried not to.

She realizes that he’s her person even if it’s in his own, ridiculous, internet slang riddled way. The universe picked someone who is so effortlessly weird to balance her out.
