Baseball T Shirts
I'm sitting in the food court of a very busy retail center on a Saturday with a pad of newspaper. What am I doing? left handers day Counting how many people are wearing t shirts, what sort of tshirt they are wearing, and roughly how old they are. That is my 4th Saturday running this poll at 4 different malls.
Before I started achieving this "t-shirt survey" at the malls here in Dallas, I was expecting about 30-35 percent of the people would be wearing a t shirt. Was I ever wrong. I had no idea just how popular t shirts actually are.
First, who's wearing tshirts? I counted a total of about 4,000 people over four weeks within this survey. In general, roughly 60-65% were wearing tshirts - twice my expectations! There has been a variance from this groups. For people under 25-years-old, about 80-85% wore t-shirts. For all those 25 to 40 yrs of age, roughly 60 percent wore t-shirts. And, for those over 40, about 35% wore tshirts.
While I expected the younger audience to be wearing tshirts, what I wasn't hoping were people ages 35 - 50 wearing them. These are mostly parents, people, and why not a couple grandparents. Most of these tshirts were sports or even faculty tshirts, or perhaps a new name like Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, or Polo - nothing primitive of obnoxious.
Second, what sort of tshirts were they wearing? I rarely saw the exact same shirt twice. You will find funny t shirts, creature t shirts, Christian t-shirts, patriotic t-shirts, and all types of novelty tshirts. And, I was not surprised to observe a few crude or offensive ones at the mixture.
Younger kiddies, those between 5 and 12-years-old, wore lots of tshirts. That age bracket was nearer to 90 percent. The majority of these had any type of "cute" picture or slogan (such as a Disney tshirt), or something to do with sports. Most adolescents and college students wore tshirts that appear to match up tightly with their own identity.
More than that, it became apparent that wearing a tshirt can be actually a way to express oneself. Whether encouraging a sports team, a university, or country, individuals wear tshirts to express themselves and make a statement. However, a few people today wear them just because it seems fine, it's cool, plus they are comfortable. The t shirt business is a enormous business. While I actually don't possess the specific numbers, it made up 60% of these shirts worn at the stores around Dallas, TX within the last four weeks.
After arriving back , what did I really do? I went into my dresser, opened the drawer, and counted about 25 t-shirts of my very own. I put on my alma mater t-shirt and sat down to see the baseball playoffs.
