Some of the critiques I see about Pomni feels like they're trying to turn her into a different person, and it deeply annoys me so I'm gonna rant about it
I get being upset that Pomni and Ragatha's relationship didn't take off as one might've expected, but to say that they were showing promising signs and that Pomni abandoned Ragatha for "the mean guy" is a bit dishonest
From the very first episode, Pomni seemed disinterested in a deeper connection with Ragatha and she's always been sort of distant with her. Whenever Ragatha tried to cheer her up, Pomni would usually just give her an unsure or exhausted expression, reply half-heartedly, or say something sarcastic; "I'm not a child, you don't have to hype me up."
Like guys, Pomni is not a morally perfect character. She's not the sweet innocent girl that will pull a sassy #slay moment where she defends the #girlies against Big Mean Toxic Jax
Pomni is skeptical, critical, cynical, sarcastic, easily irritated, she snaps rudely at people whenever she's frustrated with them, and she isn't afraid to stand up for her own boundaries and her own self before anyone else
Don't get me wrong, Pomni has incredible moments and is overall a very kind and emotionally intelligent person. I love that about her and I love how open she is to giving people second, third, and fourth chances
But Pomni barely knows these people. She's hardly familiar with their history with Jax. She isn't automatically a bad person because she decides to give Jax a chance, she doesn't owe the cast anything and she shouldn't be expected to constantly choose the right option
Subsequently, Pomni isn't trying to "fix" Jax or "apologize" for him and she isn't "enabling" him, have we forgotten the 3 minute long scene where she fucking beats his ass and calls him out on his bullshit?
"Pomni only retaliates when it's her that's being hurt" So what? That's just a human thing to do. Again, why are we expecting her to automatically stand up for strangers about history she isn't even sure about? She's not selfish for retaliating when she's affected firsthand.
And as she said herself, Jax reached out to Pomni, not the other way around. Pomni didn't go up to Jax as soon as she saw him all alone and went "Hehe I know you're a bad guy but pwease let's be friends!"
He reached out for her, and she accepted.
Like she does with literally everyone else.
What makes Jax a special case is that he continues to actively reach out to Pomni because she continues to accept, and again, like she does with everyone else. He saw her as someone to trust and decided to dip his toes in the water to see how much she'd be willing to accept him
Until episode 6, of course. By this point I think we can acknowledge that Jax needs the constant support more than Ragatha does, because Ragatha has Kinger already and having had that vent session, she finally got a chance to let everything out and have someone listen to her. That's exactly what Ragatha needed and that's exactly what Kinger was able to provide for her. Pomni doesn't have to be the solution to everyone
When Pomni tells Jax everything is going to be okay, she's not doing it out of favoritism or spite for the others, but because he's quite literally the only person who really needs to hear it. Everyone else seemed comfortable and at ease with each other, so why would Pomni remind them again?
Pomni is an introverted person by nature and seemingly prefers to stay out of people's interpersonal issues. She's neutral on everyone in the circus because she doesn't fucking know them nor their history
Pomni told Ragatha to "calm down a little" because she wasn't familiar with how crushing Jax's rejection could be in that very moment and didn't want the both of them to start a riot against each other. She's completely valid for wanting to have a calm and rational conversation because her goal is to understand where everyone is coming from, not take sides
And lastly, if Pomni enjoys Jax's company more than she does Ragatha's after all, she's completely in her own rights to do that, even though I highly doubt she would ever completely take Jax's side and push Ragatha out of the way. Some people just jive better with some person than others do, and that's just a fact of life
The truth is that Jax's personality could be devastating to one person and be a mere slap on the wrist to someone else. Jax can't hurt Pomni in the same way he has hurt the others because Pomni is far too stubborn about her boundaries and about calling him out, and she's not obligated to immediately empathize with someone who refuses to do the same
