michael corleone: is a cold-blooded murderer, launders money, is the head of the most powerful mafia family (basically a group of thugs and terrorists tbh) in the country, goes on to order a cowardly hit on his own fucking brother
kay adams: tries to alienate herself from michael as much as possible, terminates her pregnancy as a way to make michael leave her because she’s terrified of him for her own sake and her kids’ (not to mention it’s her own fucking body), is a great mother and otherwise loyal and just trying to live a normal life
godfather fans: kay is such a bitch!!! i hate her!!! how dare she treat michael that way!!! apollonia is sooooo much better for him!!!!!

since i love the godfather, how about some meta about family & 'the' family
ayyy so clearly i missed this (and idk how long it’s been since you sent this in, my apologies!) but let me just talk a little bit about how different vito and michael are. like all of la cosa nostra, their focus was obviously on the family. family comes first, always. however, vito’s career as the don of the corleone family was all about family and friendly connections no matter how much of a businessman he may have been. vito was compassionate. on the other hand, we have michael here, who had his own damn brother killed for crossing him (in a way that might’ve even been accidental and unintentional, given fredo’s naivety). his wife left him, taking their kids. while vito died surrounded by family and sunshine, michael died alone in the company of dogs (one of the few parts i liked about the godfather part iii is this parallel tbh.)
michael may have liked to convince himself that he was all about family, but power and ambition defined him. he loved his kids and kay and apollonia and the rest of his family, but power always got in the way. his hunger for power put his family in danger (ending in the deaths of apollonia and mary, both of which he was helpless to save) and he couldn’t do anything about it. and, because of this, the corleone family fell from its former “glory” under vito, to ruin under michael. the unity fell apart with fredo’s death and even before that.

purrsuasion.
he’s worn around the edges, frayed and battered, but his eyes have a sharpness about them that very few people she’s ever encountered seem to have. that’s both a good and a bad thing: it means he’s more than likely acutely aware of every little thing she does, from something as simple as the movement of her chest with every breath to something a little less kosher. selina kyle respects that; it either makes him a useful ally —– or a formidable foe.
but she has no intention of making michael corleone her enemy. not now, anyway – the future’s not a clear thing, and she can’t speak for tomorrow, let alone the rest of the night. no; for now, he’s necessary, a means of solidifying her claim over falcone’s throne, a confirmation that even new york’s legendary mafia would much rather have her over dear old alberto. that, she thinks, makes her a winner.
“Not in any official capacity.” she leans forward, pours that milk right in until the coffee’s creamy, a perfectly light brown, interrupted with flecks of sugar. if that doesn’t say enough about her, she’s not quite sure what will. “But you could color me curious.” selina takes a slow sip; the liquid burns and cools to the touch. “– And interested.”
keep your friends close and your enemies closer. michael doesn’t quite know what selina kyle is, but he decides he’ll find out--petty rivalries between families aside, he doesn’t quite see the point in feuding with the falcones or the other three families. selina’s future as the godmother of her family is almost secure--despite what he’s heard of illegitimacy--and as the young head of his own family he decides he wants to start anew. wipe out any of the old bad blood between his pa and carmine falcone, though tension will always remain. it’s the same with any pair of superpowers.
‘--well,’ he starts, delayed and soft, stirring a bit of half & half in his mug before taking a sip. it burns a little going down, but he pays it no mind. ‘consider this official, selina--if i may call you that. they want you to become appointed as the new head--and will do whatever is necessary to ensure it. the days of carmine and alberto are numbered, and sofia is far too too volatile.’ he thinks of sonny--that hot-headed fierce way about him--before continuing. ‘there will be a meeting at some point in the next few weeks, where you’ll be sworn in.’
