Writing Prompt: Kids

I remember when I still felt like a kid

It was this morning

Eating in bed

Video game controller in hand

People sharing the same bedroom

Feel like my best friend

Saturdays were meant to be

Cartoon whimsical

Full of heroes

Not a breath break

From a 40 hour work week

Living to pay bills

And seek fulfillment part time

Moonlighting at its best

For all of the worst reasons

I wonder if its always felt like this

Too much time doing what needs to be done

Instead of what should become

The manifestations

Of the dream stations

We all hold inside of ourselves

When will we wake up and see

Not all of us can truly live this way

Some of us are dying slow

While we try to dream

In THIS reality

Its way further than

Far fetched

It’s a dreamer’s catch

Idealistic pitch for those

Ready to swing for the stars

If we don’t come close

To matching the tone

Of the inner voice

We all hear when our calling is near

I fear we will sleep through

Some of the greatest works of art

This planet will never know

And our souls will continue

To bang its head

Against a fish bowl

That didn’t know

To break the glass

Pour into the ocean

And swim in the abyss

A world where everything is

Possible

Playful

Fantastic
