Character Sheet
Finished for now!
everything seems to be working so all I have left to do now is tone down the boldness of some of the colours, add lightsources to throw shade over the football fan as pubs aren't so brightly lit in real life and I think it will improve the overall look of the animation.
I also didn't make this to how I originally planned to make it. I was planning to do it frame by frame traditional directly in Flash but since learning Flash in tutorials with Robert I have drawn the frames in photoshop and imported them into flash. All of the football players (apart from two of them following the ball near to the end) are all made in photoshop and imported into flash as symbols to resize and and change position as and where I need them to be.
Footballers
I've added some football action on the screen at the beginning, at the moment it is too fast and I will fix it tomorrow. I have also coloured all the frames up to this point.
I have also noticed that his jacket collar pops out of place when he changes expression from happy to gobsmacked. I will fix this tomorrow as its getting late.
I have finished up to just before the camera changes to a close up of the tv to watch the game action. Everything seems to be fine at the moment just need to colour and clean a few frames here and there.
Same as previous just caught up with the frames and coloured them.
1 + 2 scene test.
I like how shot 2 is looking so far, just need to fix the smile lines at the beginning as they are wiggling like little worms as I wasn't consisted with my placement.
I also had to play out around with which frames to hold and for how long.
Will do some line cleaning and get this coloured.
Adjusted and coloured 1st scene.
Much better, think I will add shading to my character though as he looks ridiculous and bold at the moment.
First scene test before adding colour
I think this test works well but I think I need to remove a couple of frames to make the arms pop and snap into the upright position.
I have also decided to make this differently to how I originally planned. My initial idea was to create this by drawing directly into flash but this just proved too difficult to me. After our Flash sessions with Robert I have learned alot and decided to create my cels in Photoshop and import them into Flash.
That way I am not limited to just using shapes and and awful brush. I work better in Photoshop as I have had a little more experience in it at the moment.
Backgrounds for my animation
These are the backgrounds I have made for my animation using my frames I made for my animatic. I have tried to keep it to a limited colour palette so it doesn't look too busy in the background. Overall I am quite happy with these and think they will work great for my animation just need to clean up a few things here and there.
Drawing facial expressions from TV stills.
I struggled with drawing these. I guess drawing from life make you realise you aren't as good as you thought haha.
Updated Storyboard.
Storyboard updated with annotations, shots and camera movements.
Flash Animation
Prior to deciding to buy Adobe Flash to experiment with for this project I did a little research to find out its capabilities and wether I would be able to use it. The most useful information I found on Adobe's website and will add the links at the bottom.
Adobe Flash ( used to be known as Macromedia Flash & Shockwave Flash) is part of the adobe creative suite and is used by web designers, developers and animators to create games, animations, interactive web content, vector graphics and rich internet applications.
Adobe Flash can also distributes across various devices making its high compatibility very popular today.
After finding out what Flash is and what it is used for I wanted to find examples Flash and came across plenty of cartoons for example Foster's home for imaginary friends (video above), Peppa Pig and as of last year Tom & Jerry. I also found an award winning game created in Adobe Flash called Machinarium that was number one on the app store.

Dream - Will Kim
I came across this animation when I was trying to find some inspiration for my small acts of kindness pastel animation idea.
This animation has been made primarily using a combination of water colours and oil pastels. I was really inspired by this animation to experiment with pastels in my work as I like how you can see how you have layered up the pastel on the page I feel it looks as if you are almost animating a painting.
This video also showed me that watercolour and pastels can work quite nicely together and I considered this when I had to look elsewhere for another technique to represent the woman in my idea as I wanted her to stand out from my other subtle and soft looking characters and make her angular & sharp looking.
Football Animatic W/ Sound
I very quickly found some football commentary sound effects. I found it a bit tricky to find sound effects that change the action as quick as my characters emotions so I have just stuck with the barebone basics that I have found on YouTube.
Football Fan Animatic.
I decided to cut out a lot of the onscreen football game action to focus on portraying the roller coaster of emotions a football fan goes through which had made my animation rely heavily on sound which I believe we will be adding once we start term on monday.
I may try and add some more sounds to make the animatic more understandable but I think from this animatic it is easy to tell that his emotions are happy and then they are taking a beating.
Storyboard
Need to add some more annotations and this should be finished.
Rough updated football fan storyboard
I have decided to follow the football fan story for this project as I will be able to animate the different extremes of emotion and I feel it is comical and understandable to a wide array of people.
