The concentration camp in the florida everglades is not 'Alligator alcatraz' OR 'alligator Auschwitz' - both of these cutesy zingy names diminish the fact that it is a US Concentration Camp built on unceeded indigenous land. Call it what it is. Call it a torture prison built on stolen land.
Adding to say that the US sure didn't stop after the 19th century. Japanese Americans were sent to concemtration camps in the 1940s. This is in living memory. And if I remember correctly, some of them (all of them?) were built on unceded land as well.
And the last time this administration was in power, the same thing happened to people trying to immigrate to the US. I keep on hearing these "new" reports and ask why nobody's talking about the facilities from less than 10 years ago.
Just in case anyone thinks the US has improved any in the last 100 years.
No cutesy names. Say it like it is.
