basic rules apply. no freaks no bigots no zionists, nobody under 21. all characters within the source material are complex and cannot be viewed under one constant veil of morality. denji is a tragically complex character that consistently refers to his want for sexual/physical gratification from women and does not view himself in a positive light following numerous harrowing events, however finds himself with an elevated sense of self-importance as chainsaw man, and only as chainsaw man. his personalities up to the end of part 2 and thus beyond it are shown to be strikingly different, as the timeline reset.

the uncanny devil, a devil born from people's fear of the unknown and the uncanny (valley. translation: bukimi no tani, in which some may refer to uncanny as simply kimi), spawned mainly from conspiracy theory and the primal fear of something unrecognisable. inhabiting the body of a young woman in her 20s but has altered it to look just slightly off, emerges during the control devil arc. the uncanny devil does not act violently, and prefers a quiet observation of their prey, mimicking humans and animals poorly, speaking in incorrect phrases and inflicting panic and paralysis and smiling just a bit too big, just enough that you notice. when contracted to her, they slowly steal the humanity, emotions and normality of their contractees. she also has a wicked sense of humour and loves to play hide and seek. she will ask you to play and you have to win before they sign a contract with you (they let you win at least once, if they like you). unknown, she/they

tatsuya hayami, previously private devil hunter contracted to the uncanny devil. speaks in a mostly flattened tone due to exposure of the contract with the uncanny devil, but generally gets along with her. in trade-off for usage of the uncanny devil's assistance, tatsuya plays games with them. lone wolf type, on account that they make people generally uncomfortable without trying, anymore. her family live in osaka, she joined the tokyo division to escape the guilt that her sister had been snatched and eaten by a devil when she was supposed to pick her up from school. invited to join the special divisions upon the knowledge they had contracted a primal devil, joined with something of a personal vendetta to exploit. twenty-six, she/they

(and he took power's advice to: seize the moment!!!!!! don't let the bastards get you down!!!!! which denji is sure doesn't apply here, but whatever). but if all girls are like this, he'd better learn quickly now what not to do, and apparently that is asking girls to go to the aquarium with you because it's free entry this weekend and you're broke as hell. neither of them are really looking at each other, because when asa conveniently looks away to avoid his eyes ... eye, he looks behind her again and he almost asks if that's the reason she won't go out with him, and if she's really that shallow, 'cus that would suck, 'cus if she had one eye ... he doesn't know if he'd have still asked her. but he thinks he would, so shame on her. and lost in his thoughts she's saying a bunch of stuff he didn't hear, but then she's staring at a spot in the centre of his forehead and he's looking at her with the same confused frown he's been wearing for the past couple of minutes, hyping himself up for the harshest rejection he's ever experienced. the only rejection he's ever experienced. because she's the first girl he's ever asked out and probably the last if it goes this badly. he can't tell if the red in her cheeks is supposed to be shyness or if he's just pissed her off, but what he catches is that asa says she's a very clear person, and denji's unplucked brows raise in a thoughtless question he's not even aware he's asking, are you? then she says it. after all that, she says: i'll go to the aquarium with you.

he maps the space between her eyes and her mouth, gauging her expression and the near exasperation of her words and halting slightly. oh. because he had a million things he was going to say if she said no and carried on laughing in his face (none of them nice. none of them made sense, even, but sounded cool to say to have the last word) but he had nothing for a i'll go to the aquarium with you. he catches himself feeling a bit wobbly in his chest, but shakes off the uncertainty and replaces it with a thick smear of unnecessary ego. forget that his cheeks are pink, to the tips of his ears. he thinks she won't be able to tell because he's taller. “ well, yeah. ” said like duh, like the answer is obvious and he knew it was coming regardless of whatever he said before. “ good—good! 'cus i'm a real catch n'you'd regret it if you didn't. ” he's a seventeen year old devil hunter not worth his weight in his own blood who's overworked and severely underpaid and who's always carrying the team when power decides she's had enough and insists on petting every cat on her side of the street instead. but that's all part of the charm. so say his seniors, and they'd never lie to him, right? move on, denji. don't ruin a good thing. “ you like fish? ”

she needed a new rag, the one in her hands drenched in the rancid blood from her blades in barely two strokes. pedestrians were being directed around the scene and kishibe was strangely quiet and laying almost at quanxi's feet, which metaphorically, was not unusual. he'd taken the brunt of the devil's counteraction to their attempts to subdue it, which she didn't ask for but was silently thankful for nonetheless, even if his motives for doing so were maybe skewed. definitely skewed, but what did it matter if she got to walk away largely unscathed and able to enjoy an evening off. though his silence was beginning to grate on her. like he was sneakily asking for her attention. she looked down at him, head tilted as she sheathed her blades behind her back with a curt sigh. “ you're awfully quiet. ” tone evenly rising as though rising to the charade, playing into his hands, and brows arched, hair falling from its place tucked behind her ear. “ what, that last tumble finally knock some sense into you? ” a stupid jab, to which satisfied her to hear a stifled groan from below, his eyes opening a crack. it looks worse than it feels, he said, non-convincingly. or rather, non-convincing to her, the idiot. idiot liar. “ mm—that's a shame. ” the reply came with a sharp kick to his bloodied side. “ what about now? ”
