So I was in a production of Les Mis last year as Fantine, and my favorite scene to do was Fantine’s Arrest okay and here are some reasons:
Bam Bam (Bamatabois) and I worked really hard on making the fight scene believable and it really looked like he was throwing me and beating me and pulling me across the stage by my hair (wig) and it was like really powerful and easier to get into character and honestly sometimes he scared the shit out of me in the scene even though he was like 3 years younger than me and shy but he was so LARGE
NIP SLIP I HAD AN ON STAGE NIP SLIP. I had a sleeveless “lovely lady” dress on for the scene and when he dragged me by my hair across the floor, my kicking feet caught my dress and pulled it down. It was dress rehearsal. It was mortifying.
The Javert we had was sO FUNNY. He was really short and stocky but it worked for him and he used to come out and it was such a struggle to not laugh my ass off when he did the “THATS the way to please the lort” so I turned the laughter into a choking sob. Whatever works, right?
JVJ and I had the most intense moments. in the “i’ve seen your face before” thing, him and I had worked to make it at as delicate as possible but one time I laughed in his face and spat the “Monsieur don’t mock me now I pray.” and it was so much more POWERFUL because I was bitter and angry and then curled in on myself and it was such an honest moment because it was so UNPLANNED.
and he was so beautiful and sOFT and no one got out of that show without a giant crush on him ok
“You let your forman sEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNND me away” he had tears in his eyes it was really painful
