My setup and some other stuff
A chaos witch’s ramble
3 years of practicing and here I am.
Part of the chaos of my practice involves fucking around and finding out and just using vibes to create my materials and altar spaces.
Many would advise against being so fast and loose with it, and to them I say,
“Ehhh…”
Pretty sure my palmistry map is wildly mislabeled. Still, I use it in concert with my metatron’s cube and crystal grid to power household intentions and act as an anchor web for all my spellwork. When I’m done speaking protection over my space or programming new intentions into the grid (or clearing, or anything really), I press my right palm to the map to seal whatever I’m doing. It works because I know it works. I made it to work.
I make everything I use (sans my tarot deck and a few obvious things I cannot make) because I don’t connect well with things created by others or in a factory. I have to understand my materials inside and out so I can confidently utilize them, so that means making everything from scratch, even if it’s nontraditional or isn’t quite true to established dogma/doctrines. (See: The homemade giant curio casting mat I painted on a retired duvet:)
This mat is not in use. I practiced, got to know the energies, programmed the hell out of some charms—
But I retired it quickly because I realized I need to understand the complexities of bone casting more before I make my own map. (I do think my logic made SOME sense, but I still would rather be fully in tune with a system that makes total sense before I incorporate casting into my practice.)
I will say, even with my shaky chaotic system, I got some incredible responses. It just goes to show how powerful intention is, regardless of adhering to strict perfection in one’s practice. I also adore my bag of curios.
I’ve recorded everything about my journey into these three journals. The leather one is my proper grimoire while the little one contains tea/potion/herbalist information and the mushroomy one has all my notes and ramblings and sketches and studies.
Next, I want to bring live plants into my space to really cement my worship of Mother Gaia. She is my primary deity, the one from whom I draw my strength and to whom I defer for most things.
I also have a loose relationship with Hecate, the Sun, Michael (archangel), as well as the Cosmos itself. (The names I use are just sort of… I guess nicknames that simplify how I refer to specific archetypal energies.)
Being that I wish to work primarily with light, I am noticing but wary of a call from The Trickster. I came from a Christian Evangelical background, so I have to unlearn a lot of my understanding of the deities that have been long since bastardized in public perception, but I will still be proceeding with extreme caution in that regard. I find that the tenets of true satanism and deeper pagan practices are idyllic in the way my ultra-sovereign, anti-hierarchy, chaotic practice craves.
I’m also loving spiders lately, and have incorporated them and their symbolism into my practice. (Recovering arachnophobe!) I’m hoping to have the opportunity to care for and commune with a jumping spider before too long.
Oh and here’s some herbs from the garden, drying in my home apothecary to be used in teas and spells:
Lemon Balm and Peppermint
So to close this off
If I had any advice for new spiritualists, practitioners, witches, warlocks, magick users, and all else: Do what feels right to you. Make mistakes. Research. Study. Experiment. Play! Get a little delulu with it, while also grounding and protecting yourself and you’ll find what works for you. Don’t let anyone else dictate your spiritual journey! It’s yours.
Be well!
Go in peace! ❤️
(Also check this guy out lol. He’s at my altar but not a part of it because I love him a lot.)
