Tozi Korean BBQ [Wicker Park]
Though it can be a tad pricey, this is a cool dinner experience. I shared a sizzling stone bowl with tofu, with Christine. Miki, Natasha, and Amanda all got the signature beef BBQ: they bring raw (yuck) meat to the table, and you cook it yourself on a hot surface in the middle of the table, and then pile on different vegetables and sauces.

Dollop [Near North Side] [The Loop]
This is the sort of cafe which compels you to Instagram everything: your coffee, pastry, sandwich, the letters that spell out Dollop, the hip customers, etc. I came here with Corey when he was in town. I'd like to come back and study here sometime.

Mysore Woodlands [Devon]
All South Indian, all vegetarian, and all delicious! I came here with Namrata the day before classes began Autumn Quarter 2014. I tried mini iddly, among other things.

Nuevo Leon [Pilsen]
Super busy, and for a good reason. This is solid Mexican food, with pretty cheap prices. There are plenty of vegetarian options (beyond just a basic burrito), though I did ask for vegetarian beans just to make sure. They have a little bit of everything, and when I went there with my family there were at least two times that the whole restaurant sang happy birthday to a big party.

Chocolat Uzma Sharif [Pilsen]
Specialty chocolate shop with lots of things that look tasty but are always a tad bit above the quick let's get a dessert price range. They do have fun drinks: I got a drinking chocolate with a shot of spices, which was stellar. I absolutely love chocolate, but I also value "adventurous" food (so long as it was never breathing, gotta uphold my vegetarian values), so I appreciate a little spiciness in my sweets.

Robust Coffee Lounge [Woodlawn]
Beware because when you go south of 60th street, past university property, you will suddenly become engulfed in flames and feel the wrath of all horror and danger. Oh wait, that doesn't happen. It's true that Hyde Park is an abnormality in terms of safety in comparison with surrounding neighborhoods due to university efforts, but venturing down to 63rd street is totally fine and definitely worth it. Robust is a great space to hang out and study. They have lots of drinks, including milkshakes, smoothies, and coffee. I've been here for lunch, breakfast, and just to hang around and at least try to study.

Jackalope Coffee and Teahouse [Bridgeport]
They have a funky name, funky, decor, and some stellar treats and coffee. They have sandwiches too, though I came here for breakfast on a bike ride with Ellie and Namrata back in Autumn Quarter 2013. We just biked along the path by the lake until we got hungry, and then found this place on yelp. Moment of thankfulness to the powers of the collective via the internet.

Joy Yee Noodles [Chinatown]
The menu here is seriously close to two feet tall. It's full of colorful pictures of food and drinks. They have huge portions and enough tofu options and so many bubble teas that you should budget in some extra time just for oozing over the menu. Also the decor is really cute, with clean white community tables and a nice view of the sunset. I came here at the start of Spring Quarter with Ed and Carmin, and then I came back here with my family when they came to visit.

Eataly [The Loop]
Eataly is really more of an experience than just a place to eat. I went with Onsi, Ellie and Namrata (though I have also been to Eataly in New York with Mama). We didn't have enough time to sit down and order pasta, so I would definitely like to come back for that. We did eat exquisite cheese and bread and gelato and everywhere you look there's more drool-worthy food. Maybe I should study abroad in Italy.

Stan's Donuts [Wicker Park]
I had a chocolate peanut butter pocket (that's a square doughnut filled with peanut butter and topped with chocolate). It actually wasn't the sweetest doughnut I have ever had, but it was unique and tasty. They had some other cool flavors which I would be glad to try. I came here with Carmin and Natasha. Carmin had doughnut flavored gelato, which was really cool and really tasted like a doughnut.

Piece Pizza [Wicker Park]
When the pizza arrived at the table, I grabbed a slice so quickly that the spinach and feta slid right off of the perfectly thin slice. This is fantastic classy pizza with great toppings. I went here after the Ingrid Michaelson concert in April 2014, with Maya, Zach, Kenzo, and Kenzo's friend.

Flash Taco [Wicker Park]
Scrumptious and cheap tacos with some more authentic ingredients. I went here with Carmin and Natasha after hitting up some Wicker Park thrift stores.

Flying Saucer [Humboldt Park]
Really fun brunch place with tons of vegetarian options and some swell specials too. I went here with the family before exploring some neighborhoods and shopping in Wicker Park. A bit out of the way without a car, but I would totally come back here.

BeeZzee [Lincoln Park]
This place has fantastic smoothies - I had a peanut butter, chocolate, banana one and it was delicious. I went here with the whole family when they came to visit me April 2014. I would definitely come back and try a crepe and of course more smoothies.

Little Goat Diner [Near West Side]
Absolutely fantastic little places with some funky ingredients. I went here first with Mama when I came to visit Chicago as a senior in high school. I came back with a bunch of Boothies after the MODA fashion show Winter Quarter 2014 when the after-party had a crazy long line.

Awesome cafe with cool smoothies/milkshakes made with fruits I had never heard of. Lots of good sandwiches, though not too many vegetarian options. Went here with Peggy, Zach, and Kenzo during Winter Quarter 2014.

The best pizza I have had in my life... so far. Went here with Mama and Sally when they came to visit me for family weekend back in October 2013.
