Just needed to elaborate on my post about Turks x coworker reader. I tried to consider canon for this but now it’s just Reno yap tbh…NSFW topic but nothing graphic.
(…) Reno is still hesitant about being in a committed relationship. He feels comfortable without the pressure of a label, scared of what might happen if it gets “too real.”
The Turks are a very tight-knit group and care a lot about each other. I believe Reno didn’t have a good life pre-shinra and would consider his colleagues a found family.
In the main story, the Turks are at a point where they would be executed if they refused any orders.
Knowing this, would he really be ready to enter a serious and committed relationship?
Anything could go wrong at any time. Refusing an order of great importance because of your own morals and values could mean you’re done for. Not to mention the danger of some of the missions you’re sent to.
Reno would hate to go through the pain of losing a romantic partner. Sure, Rude is just as important to him as you are, but you’re the person he has strong feelings for, and they make him feel vulnerable. And if he did start a relationship with you there would be the risk of you sacrificing yourself for his sake or ignoring an order because he needs to be saved.
Reno is a person who feels a lot, despite being really cocky and burying most of it deep inside his heart or outright ignoring it, because what else is there to do if you have a job like his? He’s strong enough not to let guilt eat him alive, for example after the plate drop, even if that did affect him. So can he really be blamed for indulging in what his heart tells him he wants? And he longs for a connection with you.
In my headcanons I mentioned that the closest you could be with him is a friends with benefits type of relationship. He gets to be close to you and spend time with you in a private setting. Both of you are aware that your feelings for each other are mutual and everything could be going great until you bring it up to him. Ask him what you really mean to him. And then he gets annoyed and fun’s over.
Throughout all of this, Rude would be the only person he’d confide in, one of the only people who just gets him. And Rude would essentially tell him that just sleeping with someone doesn’t resolve the need for a close emotional bond that Reno has. And now to quote one of my headcanons once again, your relationship would end up like this:

After a long time of knowing he can let himself be vulnerable around you, he would drop his walls and you’ll get to know what he’s like aside from his cocky persona. How and why he joined the Turks. Life before Shinra. And if you’ve got a fucked up story yourself he listens and sympathizes with you.
And just to bring up the only two canonical facts about his family and his view on familial relationships because we’re already on the topic of him opening up, in On the way to a smile we find out that:
- his father is dead
- he’d love to meet a sibling he had no clue even existed
These were most likely intended to be super basic statements but I can’t help reading way too much into them as someone who would love to have more information on the Turk’s backstories. I added these in case anyone feels the same.
But the book takes place after the events of the main game and thankfully Advent Children exists because I believe your relationship would definitely change after all that’s happened.
Midgar was devastated, Shinra is basically gone and Rufus and the Turks want to build it back up again. But now the pressure on the turks is gone. They’re not kept on a tight leash anymore and Rufus didn’t force them to stay.
And after spending his late teens and adulthood stuck in the same place mentally, this might be a nice change for all of you, all the horrible events aside, obviously. Everyone is in shock after the world almost came to an end, but as time passes and the turmoil slowly calms down, Reno starts to think again.
And he comes to the conclusion that he’s exhausted of being colleagues, friends or whatever you are at that point. And you both know exactly what you what.
And he wants the real thing.
Yay now you’re officially dating! Took him long enough. Live laugh love Reno.
