“—sorry amos, didn’t realize i was being loud. that’s quite a work load, innit?”
“Yes, it is.” Amos confirmed, glancing down at his work for a moment, before glancing back up at James. “No worries, i’m sure it’s easy to not recognize the volume on ones self. What brings you to the library on a day like this, anyhow?”
“I would have to imagine it is hectic. So many students going on a trip to one place, no? But I have heard much about it, and I am very curious.”
“Yes, exactly. Even more so when everyone is running around and excited. It’ll be a mess this year, i’m sure. Either way, i’m not entirely sure of when it’ll occur, but it should be sometime soon. If you’d like, you can find me when the time arrives and i’ll give you a full tour of the place.”

The shutter sounded through the silence, following by the whining of the white framed picture ejecting from the camera. Dorcas snagged it out before beginning to shake it out to the side, brows raising at the jump she’d given the focus of her candid shot. “Skittish? Don’t worry, not here to hex you-” tonight. The thought was inward and mostly innocent, if finding it humorous was the main reason it crossed her brain. “Just capturing the moment and all.” She raised the photo, just as the image came into view.
As a bright flash captured his full attention, Amos blinked and moved from the shot. Normally, he was relatively okay with photos..... However being caught off guard with them------- well that was another story. “Erm, right.” Amos replied slowly, his frown becoming more prominent. “New camera?” He guessed. “Or are you just testing it out on random students?”
“I swear, I don’t know why I’m subscribed to the Prophet any more. I don’t think I read even half the stories now,” she said, putting said newspaper down. She was getting rather sick of some of the purist propaganda that was scattered among the pages.
“Not all of it is bad” Amos countered, his eyes not on the paper however, but more searching for a certain object on the breakfast table. “For example, sometimes they post quidditch------ or the weather.” He finished, flashing her a grin. “Besides keeping up on the on-goings of our world is vastly important. If you don’t, then how will you know whats going on? By the way, do you have any juice over here? Hufflepuff is out.”

That was what her mother had told her in her latest letter. But Margo still hadn’t worn her engagement ring. Or, more like, Margo still wouldn’t wear her engagement ring. In her opinion, there was no point in wearing it around school when there was no press to report that she hadn’t been wearing it. Not to mention it was bigger than her hand; pretty much. Extravagance beyond what was necessary was something she wasn’t normally opposed to but this was ridiculous. Still, she supposed that she should- there were families at this school who could get word back to hers after all. And since the press had already received the statement from her family ( she cursed towards her mother for rushing her into this ) and published it in Witch Weekly this morning, there was no point waiting any longer. She’d have to wear it every day from now on anyway.
Breakfast time came but Margo didn’t really feel like eating or socialising, even as she heard someone sit down next to her. It would be rude to completely ignore them, so she muttered quietly. At least she was talking.
“ Bon matin. Comment-allez vous? ”
As the new day dawned, Amos immediately wished that it hadn’t. Firstly the windows were too bright and then his dorm-mates were too loud. It seemed to be one thing after another, so when he finally got out of bed to do his morning routine--- Amos was not in a good mood. His normal smile was nowhere in sight and he showered and pulled his uniform on. His hair was a mess and, for the first time in awhile, he couldn’t be bothered to fix it even slightly. Taking one last look at his sourly appearance in the mirror, Amos winced at the scowl before him but did nothing to change his facial features.
So with that, he walked by himself towards the great hall. Perhaps some food could better his morning? He surely hoped so. As he walked, his mind brought images of fresh pancakes and eggs before his eyes. Toast with marmalade and freshly brewed tea. Merlin, it all sounded like perfection to him at the time. So, he picked his pace up and pushed the great hall doors open with a flourish. If he hadn’t been in such a mood and in a hurry to eat in peace, Amos may have realized of how closely to another he had jumped into place at the table. But still, he didn’t notice... well, not until she spoke anyways.
“Pardon?” He asked, turning his head to face her. His hand half way into reaching for the tea kettle as he frowned at the girl. He really needed to earn french. It was an abomination that he hadn’t even considered it prior to now. “I can leave if me being here upsets you in some manner.” He then offered. Not understanding the words she had spoken, but he did understand the tone that was used.
“ Polaris, Cassiopeia.. ” It wasn’t too odd to see the seventeen year old male on top of the Astronomy Tower gazing at the stars. He’d been naming the stars in the sky at night for as long as he could remember. It was a wonderful time passer especially on the nights that he couldn’t sleep (which was most nights due to his sleeping patterns). Behind him, he heard the door open and then close to signal the presence of another on the tower. He didn’t much bother to see who it was since he assumed that it was someone that normally found him on his nightly ventures like James or even Dorcas. He did acknowledge the new visitor in some way, however. “ You picked a great night to stargaze, ” He said simply.
As the week trudged on, Amos found himself lacking more and more sleep. Whether he brought this on himself, naturally, was still up in the air in his mindset. Surely he didn’t need to pour hours into reading a book that he had already done so three times, just to make sure he didn’t get anything wrong... and surely he didn’t have to spend hours re-writing his essays to make sure that his handwriting was at peak perfection. So in short, it was brought on himself... but Amos still struggled with this aspect. A large part of him felt justified in his actions, in his ‘overachieving’ nature, but at times a resentful emotion would perk up from out of the blue to strike him down. Such as tonight, for example, as everything had begun to take its toll. Which was how he found himself, nearly in the dead of night, as he wandered through the halls taking note of how chilled the air had become in such a short time. He hadn’t even considered the fact that another person had been awake at such an hour like he was. If he had, Amos probably wouldn’t have barged into the Astromomy tower. Or perhaps he would have. Either way, it wouldn’t be known now.
“Yes.The skies are clear.” Amos responded slowly, agreeing with the other boy’s words rather dumbly as well. The surprise of seeing Sirius Black stand before him took Amos by surprise, but he did his best to push it down. “Forgive me, I wasn’t aware that you were occupying the space. I can leave if you’d like.”
“So when do we get a chance to see this Hogsmeade I have heard so much about?”
“It sounds very…quaint, I suppose. It looked nice from the sky, at least.”
“Usually it happens more towards the end of October, but it varies from year to year. I am with you in the sentiment though, it would be refreshing to leave the castle for a while----- get some fresh air and a new perspective of sorts.” Amos rambled on, before stopping himself. “It is quaint though, as you said. It can get hectic, however. Especially during the first Hogsmead weekend of the school year, so I would brace yourself when the time arrives.”
Second guessing yourself means you LACK confidence. Lacking confidence means you have NO faith and no faith equals FAILURE. No time for that.
“ I’ve learned that it’s just easier to make up what you see if you cannot see anything. Pretend it is an animal or something along those lines. I manage to get by with an Acceptable. It is similar to your curriculum in some ways, but we study for longer so we are better prepared for the exams. ”
“I suppose that makes sense. I mean, as long as it works for you, then who am I to say otherwise?” He asked, in a rhetorical fashion. The mental imagine of forging ones answers, on any subject, was more of a cloudy area for Amos. He simply didn’t understand that way of thinking.... with his overachieving standards and the mindset that followed. “I am quite jealous that your curriculum give extra hours of studying, though. We are meant to do that on our own time.. for all of our classes. Which usually means waiting until the weekend, and after the other work has been previously completed. I always find time for studying, of course. My grades cannot afford to be anything but the best----- but I do wish our school system would give more room as it seems like yours does. “
“I would hate to be rude------ but I have four essays, two charts and one questionnaire that n e e d s to be done before the end of this weekend. So would it be too much to ask for you to turn the volume down just a bit? It would be very much appreciated.”
“ My tone? ” His eyebrows rose in a dramatic fashion. “ Honestly, Diggory, I have no idea what you are talking about. ” Smirking lightly, he grasped the other boy’s shoulders and massaged them playfully. This was a gesture that was probably not very appropriate considering that Amos was someone that he wasn’t particularly close to. But, hopefully, the other boy had learned that Sirius often blurred the lines on what was appropriate with another person. “ Are you sure, Diggory? I mean– you’re just so tense, ” He gripped the other boy’s shoulders as emphasis for his words. Tilting his head to the side, he craned his neck from where he stood behind Amos to try to look him more clearly in the face. “ You know, all that scowling is going to cause wrinkles to pop up on that pretty face of yours, ” He remarked.
It was very hard to resist the childish urge to roll his eyes. Now, normally--- Amos wouldn’t even consider such an open display of rudeness. However, the way that Sirius spoke and the action that followed suit, made him want to just so bad. The ‘massage’ that was being done to his skin, made Amos frown even more so, but it did the job at least. It had distracted him from what he had been previously scolding the Gryffindor for. So when the action stopped, Amos moved away and crossed his arms over his flat chest. “Tense, yes.” He murmured softly. “I’m just over-worked... already I presume. Well, I shouldn’t say that. I enjoy the workload that is placed upon me... by others and myself but-----” Amos stopped in mid-sentence, unsure of what word to speak next. He was doing more ramblings more often later, he noted. He really should find a stop to that. He then gave a final sigh, and glanced away from Sirius just one final time, before returning his slow gaze back. “I’ll work on that, I guess. Wrinkles, as you say. In any case, please don’t harass the new students.” Amos then replied swiftly, remembering the topic at hand. “They are guests here, Sirius. I won’t stay and babysit, if that’s what you’re worried of------- but at least try to be polite.”

I was lucky enough, when I was younger, to have the chance to do as much as possible, and I found what I wanted to do. I did swimming, gymnastics, kickboxing and the one that took off more than the others was acting.
Strike me down? I’ll get up again. I am not invincible, but I won’t give up either.
Hestia shrugged her shoulders carefully. “I’ve been wonderful, as usual. Not much exciting to talk about with my life,” she flashed him a sweet smile. “What about you? I’ve been hearing around the Common Room that you may be trying to be the Hogwarts Triwizard Champion.” she reaised her eyebrows to pose it as a question, even though it was pretty well known that he was going to put his name in the cup; how could someone like him not? “I must say, having a Hufflepuff as Champion would make me quite proud.”
“Of course.” Amos replied, a laugh entering his tone as she shrugged. At her question, or implied question rather, Amos offered a bright smile, as his head nodded as if answering. “Oh well yes, I have decided that I will be auditioning. I fear as though I may not be chosen------ as our house tends to get left behind more often then not, but one has to give it a try, at least. It will be exciting at the very least, so here’s rooting for, if not me, then someone else in Hufflepuff to take the glory.” He finished, his head held high in a diplomatic fashion before relaxing his stance ever so slightly. “What about you, Hestia? Are you going to try out to be a champion?”
Mary thanked Amos as she moved the book into the bag at her side. “Twice? Now I feel much better about taking it,” she teased, nodding that she would definitely let him know her review of the book once she had finished with it, commenting, “I love the muggle world, but I can’t I tell you how much I missed the books here.”
Amos laughed at her words, but genuinely felt better that Mary was at least more comfortable with taking the book that she had asked for. “As you should, definitely. I have essays to work on anyhow, so it’s better off this way. You’ll keep me from getting distracted.” At her final comment, Amos grinned widely in more amusement. “I haven’t had the pleasure to read much muggle literature, but I do understand the sentiment. I will still never understand how you’re able to go through an entire summer without anything magical to keep you company. Were you able to at least visit Diagon during the holiday?”
Noticing the discomfort she wasn’t sure if he failed at hiding it from her off he didn’t bother too. People wore their emotions to clearly for everyone else to see. She did it too, unfortunately. But it wasn’t until he asked her if she wanted him to leave that the situation really caused her to become almost gleeful. “Too late for that now.” She replied, a little to harshly than she had planned.
Allowing the harsh look on her face to soften Alecto shrugged. “Can’t be all that dull, tell me.” She said again before continuing. “I think they all need to leave before someone gets hurt.” Alecto said and now a bright smile adorned her features, with anyone else it could’ve seemed as genuine concern over the competition. If that didn’t happen Alecto was of course willing to give it a slight push.
Amos nearly flinched back at the tone that she provided. With his smile fading, finally, he shifted in place. He took a fraction of a step back away from her, but decided to remain directly their until he was directed otherwise. “My sincere apologies.” He finally said, his tone soft.
At her change in verbal direction, Amos sighed softly. More to himself then to her, but he didn’t bother to disclose that fact. “Just family, primarily. Along with that, the tournament has my mind curious as well. Considering I am, in fact, quite excited for the outcome as well as the choosing of the champions. I’m going to put my name in, you see.” He rambled slightly. Saying more words then he had initially intended to. As she stated her own opinion of the subject, Amos nodded along with her words and couldn’t find a direct fault. Her smile seemed more feral then the situation called for, but he didn’t bother inquiring about that. “Understandably, of course. Many people have died within the tournament... or at least has gotten seriously injured. I do hope that nothing as drastic as that will happen this time around, although.” He paused for a moment after that, before picking up again. “Does that mean that you do not enjoy the company of the foreign students?”
“ It’s not rude, don’t worry. My mother thinks that Divination is an important subject, but she doesn’t think Charms is. So, to compromise, I said that I would take Divination if she let me take Charms. I sometimes think that I would have rather self taught myself Charms than take that, but there we go. ”
“Ah, I see.” Amos replied, after she had finished with her explanation. It wasn’t a situation at Amos could personally connect with, so on that front---- he felt a loss of what to say. Still though, he continued on with the words in his head. “It’s nice to see that an arrangement could have been made to please the both of you. Also, it’s nice that your mother chose a fairly easy class. Or at least the Divination that we provide is, I should say... as I am still unfamiliar with the curriculum that your school requires. In any case, I hope that it’s not too dreadful for you.”
