ârespect for a mudblood? looks like youâve been hanging out with too many traitors, macdonald. â anyway, since that was a no, iâll be going to find someone less disgusting to be around.â
âFunny I was just thinking the same thing. Good day Amycus.â
â Isnât that dreadfully boring? â
âMaybe a little, but itâs my home. Wouldnât you love your home even if it was dreadfully boring?â
â I donât know who Mr Baker is, but surely his chicken is not so famous as to make the news? â
âI come from a very small town which mostly thrives on farm life. Stuff like that makes the local paperâs headlines all the time.â
â I only scan through nowadays, the papers never really interested me too much anyway. â
âI used to like it - always a lot more interesting than the papers back home. Now Iâd rather be reading about Mr Bakerâs chicken being run over.â
âglad we cleared up this annoyance. if you arenât going to tell me what i missed for the transfiguration homework, we might as well call this conversation over. youâve exceeded your amusement.â
âIâm sure if you went to somebody you actually treated with an ounce of respect they would be just as capable of telling you.â
âNot at all. Iâm sure that in many ways Iâm very similar to the traditionalists here - much more similar to them than I am to you. Yet, I havenât hexed you yet. My friends would have.â
âMaybe itâs for the best that we arenât friends, Iâm not in the way of giving people a pat on the back for a simple show of human decency. In fact itâs more worrying that you see that as an achievement.â
âMary, I came from a family with centuries of magical history and Iâm top of my class in Dark Arts and Martial Magic. What could you possibly teach me? Muggle studies?â
âWhat? Because I am a muggle-born the only thing I can contribute to our world is information to the one I was born into? Goodness, are you quite sure that youâre so different from the traditionalists here?â
âI sincerely doubt you have anything useful to teach me.â
âYou say that as though you know anything about me.â
âis this you worrying about me? iâd be touched if i wasnât so grossed out. donât worry, no one would be that stupid enough to think i actually enjoy your company.â
âI am about as worried about you as you are about me.â
âGood. Blasphemy intended. Actually, Iâm implying that there are some people at this school I like. The fact that youâre not one of them was implicit.â
âWell that is disappointing Anka, I thought maybe we could have taught each other something - that is part of the tournament after all.â
âdo you think before you speak? me, spending time with mudbloods like you? just because iâm simply having a conversation with you, waiting for you to inevitably start crying doesnât mean i actually like this. iâm momentarily entertained until youâre of no use for me.â
âWhat I said Amycus is that people might begin to think you might be enjoing my company. Couldnât have them believing that, could we?â
âI have plenty of friends here, virgin Mary. Iâve found that some students are very hospitable.â
âYou say that like itâs an insult but if anything itâs blasphemy. Are you implying that Iâm not hospitable? Because Iâm sure I can find at least a dozen who would disagree.â
âYou say that like weâll ever get rid of mother hen,â she said, truthfully, because getting rid of Lily was not only unthinkable, but probably impossible as well. Dorcas held an eye roll simply to narrow her eyes at Mary after she snatched the picture. âWell what about when Iâm old and senile and canât remember my own name? Donât you care if I wonât be able to remember your face?â
âAs much as I hope youâre right Doe, you never really know what may happen,â Mary smiled sadly as she repeated what she had always been told. However, it soon turned genuine as she refuse to give the picture to its owner but instead toyed with it in her hands. âPretty face like this, I doubt youâll be forgetting that even when you canât remember the year. Thatâs why I donât need pictures of any of you. I donât think Iâm likely to forget anything about this place.â
he leaned closer, almost smiling. âiâm not finding it that unpleasant, mary, on the contrary iâm getting quite amused. i donât have anything better to do, otherwise you wouldnât be worth my time. unfortunately for you, iâm bored.âÂ
âDonât say that too loudly Amycus, people might start to think that you like spending time with muggleborns and from what I hear youâre not too suited to the life of a blood traitor.â
âSome people try to get away with having no substance through niceties. No thank you. When did I claim not to be picky? I donât make friends with the rabble.â
âHonestly, I will never understand some people. Still I do hope you manage to make some friends here Anka. A big place like this can get really lonely if you have nobody to talk to.â
