Ahh this beautiful show came back and did it again. Gyeongseong Creature does a lot well and stays true to its themes throughout both seasons, but what I connect with most is how deeply it understands its characters and delivers resolutions that feel true to who they are and what they believe. Chae-ok very explicitly said she wanted to be free of her life, that what tormented her most was not the possibility of death, but of being left alone and unable to die. Her existence has been nonstop misery and personal sacrifice for 100 years, as a human and then as a hybrid creature. She has no good memories to cling to and wants nothing more than to be free of her burdens. This ending allowed her that freedom while still letting her live with the promise of a new life where she may actually be happy for more than a few stolen hours. Tae-sang, in turn, completed his goal of taking down Maeda and exposing her evil company and saving his loved ones, and I believe he also chose to remove his parasite and start over with a new human life. It tracked for me, as well, that Seong-jo would go fully to the dark side with the last of his humanity removed. There will always be evil forces at work, but Tae-sang and Chae-ok do not have to keep sacrificing themselves to fight it forever. The only way for them to escape their burdens and truly live after all they have sacrificed was to start fresh, and I'm glad they got the chance.
