[Toon x Mobster] Practicing my noir art style... still trying to learn how this works. I've just been referencing professional artists' artworks to figure it out lol

Just rambling here, but my problem here is that this style takes so long to do since I'm drawing it on digital. And the fact that I don't really know how to draw in a west style + my anatomy is lacking really makes it feel kinda amateurish... or at least it doesn't feel very classically comic noir.

And this is just the lineart. I'm not even on the coloring/rendering part yet.

Not sure if I'm being too harsh on myself, but I'll figure it out somehow. Honestly, I'm probably a bit stupid trying to replicate the exact style you'd only achieve drawing on physical paper lol. Maybe I should try something else...

a compositional thing i use a lot, and is by no means a rule of thumb and very much a preference, is trying to make the corners of my canvas as much of a non-entity as possible. almost treating the boundary of the canvas like drawn lines, and any intersections with them as tangents. it's a habit i picked up comic thumbnailing, but i like how it looks in paintings too
