Film: ANYBODYβS WOMAN (dir. Dorothy Arzner, 1930, USA)
Forum: Film Studies Center Β Β Format: 35mm
Observations: Here's the final feature of the Chicago Film Society Pre-Code series that we attended over the weekend. You get to root for working-class Ruth Chatterton taking on the snobs when she marries society lawyer Clive Brook. Maybe not the film you'd want to show to persuade someone of Arzner's talent - it drags in long stretches, as early-sound Hollywood films tended to do - but overall, a worthy entry in her filmography. Again, a more-than-half full theater and a really nice spoken intro (I unfortunately did not catch the name of the presenter).
