15 Relationships That Only Exist In Hollywood
Reblog this to make a racist feel uncomfortable.
Board Game Marathon Day
Board Games are listed in order of preference (1 being my favourite, 10 being least favourite).
1. Colour War
I really enjoyed this game and it's creativity.
The game is made up of "Monopoly JR", "Sorry!", and trivia questions the team made up.
The game was competitive in a fun way.
The questions were generally easy for the age group.
That being said, there could have been a better way for players to answer questions. The rules could have been a little clearer because in the beginning it was a little confusing.
2. Mad Candy Scrabble
"Mad Candy Scrabble" is made up of "Mad Gab", "Candy Land", "Scrabble".
The rules were easy and straightforward
Game play was really fun.
Hard to hear each other over the buzzer.
3. Barbie Game
The team didn't title it so, my team referred to it as "The Barbie Game".
It's a combination of a "Barbie" game, "Trivial Pursuit" and "Monopoly".
A lot of interaction with other players.
Overall, fun game play.
Rules and set up should have been clearer.
4. Chasing Emeralds
Combination of a "wizard of Oz" game, "Go Fish", a "Scooby-Doo" game and "Monopoly JR"
Easy game play
"Go Fish" was incorporated oddly.
5. Wordy Snake
Combination of "Snakes and Ladders", "Monopoly" and "Scrabble".
Easy game play.
Not enough interaction between the players.
The game felt, sometimes, long and boring.
6. Triboggle
Combination of "Trivial Pursuit", "Cootie Catcher", etc...
A lot of interaction between the players makes the game play fun.
However, We spent more time trying to figure out the rules and how to play over actually playing the game.
Board Game Repurposing
Today, my team and myself worked on creating a new board game using old board games. My team consisted of Chris, Melody and Victoria. Chris brought in the game "Sexual Trivia"; Melody brought in a deck of cards; Victoria brought in "Pay Day"; I brought in "Scrabble Slam!". For 20 minutes, my team did a brain writing exercise and came up with around 30 rules.
As a team, we went through the rules we created and picked the ones that would make for fun game play. We used the trivia question manuals and the orgasm points from "Sexual Trivia"; we used the cards (lottery and mail courier), the dice, the board and the money ($100 and $500) from "Pay Day"; we used the deck of cards for an incorporated game of blackjack; we incorporated the "Scrabble Slam!" cards into the gameplay as well.

Toy Repurposing (Day 2)
The toy repurposing had many problems. In my original proposal, I wanted to make night light using my toy's light source. Unfortunately, the toys wires were held together by hot glue and broke easily. The wires were very thin and were unable to be stripped.
I chose to use the toy's speaker instead. I would use the speaker to create a portable iPod/MP3 player. That someone could use at work or at bedtime. I used these supplies.
I cut the wires underneath where the bud connects, and stripped it so the four wires would show.
I plugged the jack into the iPod.
I, then, tested the wires by connecting them to the speaker.
I used aluminum to make them connect easier and secured it with electrical tape.
I added a tupperware container to amplify the sound.
Voila! My iPod speaker!
Toy Repurposing (Proposal)
For my project I want to make a night light. The light source is red so, it will not be too bright and distracting to the child as she/he tries to sleep.
I want to reuse the light source of the toy and circuit boards of the toy. The circuits include an musical aspect to the toy already so, the challenge would be to either include the noise and make it soothing or disregard it completely. I am going to use the little parts of the toy to make it more whimsical. Hopefully, I will be able to reuse the toy’s switch but if not I am going to have to build a new one.
I am going to add to the project with a new case. The original toy’s case is far too big to be a good night light. I want the case to be made out of clay but if that does not work I will use a box. I want to use clay because it can be formed into a new shape, and gives the night light a level of interactivity.
Overall, I anticipate the issues with this project will be the circuits and getting a good clay sculpture. If these or others such issues arise I will attempt to adapt as best as I can. Similar to the last project, I will learn many things from this project. Hopefully the switch will not be an issue like it was on the last one.
Toy Repurposing (Day 1)
The toy I chose is a musical toy that teaches children through song, The child turns the knob and presses play. A female voice then comes on and teaches the child the alphabet or popular children songs.
First, I dismantled the battery pack.
Then I proceeded to meticulously dismantle every screw in the toy until I could lay out all of the parts.
For the rest of this project, I want to make good use of the light and sound.
Creativity
Being creative is the ability to create or invent.
History of concept
Ancient Views: Creativity is a form of discovery, not creation. Plato did not see creativity as creation.
Christian Views: Creativity came to the western civilization through Christianity. Creativity is what came from God. Humans cannot create anything new, but rather portray the ideas of God. The notion of creativity as a divine inspiration.
Roman and Greek muses were seen as a creative demons who were linked to the divine.
During the renaissance, creativity was finally linked to humans. It was the greatness of man that could create. It is the ability of the person, not God. This idea gradually shifted until the Enlightenment in the 1800s.
In the 1800s, creativity being linked to the imagination became common place. An increase of interest in individual differences.
20th century to the present: Wallas' 5 stages: preparation, incubation, intimation, illumination, verification.
Creativity is a legacy of evolution. Creativity allows people to quickly adapt to environments.
Whitehead coined the term creativity. Whitehead is an important figure in the discussion of creativity.
Guilford argued that creativity is not linked to one's IQ.
"Creativity means seeing the same thing everyday with new eye"
- Michael Michalko
There is no right answer, reality is ambiguous. Aristotle says, the thinking the sky is blue or not blue, is black and white thinking. The sky is millions of colours.
Self-censorship of ideas kills creativity.
Presentations
Team 1: Scare Lion
I like the dark humour they brought to the project. A sadomasochistic lion is a unique idea. To get the lion to shake and move, the person has to choke it. I thought it was a clever idea.
I would've liked to hear more of the difficulties they had, and the back story could have been better (i.e. why does he like to be choked?).
Team 2: Squid "Clowny" Robot
The creativity of making the squid look creepy was really good. The motor they used was pretty powerful.
That being said, I think more time could have been used working with the motor. The motor sticks out which takes away from the overall appearance of the squid. The motor also causes issues when handing it off because the turning piece in the back decides whether the switch, in the front, turns the squid on or off.
Team 3: Party Brian
Brian not vibrating was a refreshing idea. I like that it was just one arm that spun and spun quickly.
They could have sewed it. They could have at least made an attempt, to make it look a little better.
Team 4: Benny the Blue Dog
Benny achieves the comforting feeling the project was going for. The light and warmth of Benny is soothing.
The rip in the middle of Benny takes away from the comforting look Benny is going for. The electrical needs to run smoother.
Team 5: "Grumpy" Smurf
The project was clever. Having six different sirens that are controlled by the hand is interesting.
If the volume of the sirens was intentional than they did a good job. Otherwise, they need to work on lowering how loud it is.
The team needs to have the neck capable of supporting the head.
Team 6: Harry The Hare
Team 6 is my team.
Team 7: George The Abused Elephant
The appearance of the elephant fits in well with the back story. Good use of dark humour in the story.
The motor and switch could have ran smoother.
Team 8: Mommy And Me
Having a blanket instead of a plush toy was very original and creative.
The vibrations are too rough for a baby, and need to be worked on so they can be soothing and not harmful.
Team 9: Kyle The Hairy Worm
The worm is creepy and annoying. It vibrates well, and a lot of effort was put into it.
The annoying sirens could have been worked out better.
Affective Robot Challenge (Day 3)
Harry The Hair (continued)
Picking up where we left off in Day 2, my team and I went right to work with getting Harry to work. We wanted Harry to have strong vibrations so, the user could really feel it. The motor had always been the biggest issue with our project attempts, so we wasted no time trying to get that to work. We counter balanced the weight of the motor with a nickel glued to the end of it. We then put the motor into a plastic cup securing it with fabric (recycled from our first attempt) and an elastic.
After celebrating the fact that our motor worked, we carefully placed the motor into Harry.
The motor inside Harry before we moved the switch inside Harry's nose:
After some adjusting, the switch was in the right place and Harry was working.
We re-stuffed Harry and Melody sewed a button on his back to keep him in place. Finally, after much trial and error, we had a successful project.
The Story of Harry The Hare
One day, Harry The Hare was hopping along in the forest when a mad scientist kidnapped him. The scientist dyed his fur pink and ran experiments on him until he vibrated when someone squeezes his nose. Due to Harry's pinkness, everyone he meets wants to squeeze his nose because they think he's so cute. Harry vibrates for them before running off. Harry becomes quick and hides his uniqueness because it hurts when people squeeze his nose.
Affective Robot Project (Day 2)
Day 2 was more successful than Day 1. After a trip to the Dollarama, better known as the Dollar Store, my team and I came back with an Easter hat, a bunny plushie, and a sewing kit.
The hat and bunny gave us two ideas. The first was the "Thinking Hat" and the second "Harry The Hare."
The Thinking Hat
The idea of the "Thinking Hat" was that it would vibrate whenever someone pushed on the rim of the hat. Thus, giving the person wearing it a pensive look. Victoria found a way to make a smaller switch that would open and close easier than our first attempt.
We cut open the rim of the hat with a pair of scissors, and placed the motor inside it.
Unfortunately, the balancing of the motor and the vibrations gave the person wearing it a headache. So, we decided to go with our third idea.
Harry The Hare
The purpose of Harry is to vibrate whenever someone would squeeze his nose. This will be achieved by pressing down on his nose which will contain the switch. On this day, we were able to start our project with Harry. We cut him open and took out all the stuffing. We will finish Harry on Day 3.
