v14 spoilers ahead !!

SO. Neo's going through an overhaul. Basically, v14 gave me a LOT of ammo to really dig into his and Nova's relationship and properly establish them in everything. So have some concept doodles and things of that nature :)

A lot of it boils down to Neo's primary development occurring AFTER chapter 16, as her and Nova are officially separate entities once Nova gets turned into paste on the road lol

anyways this is entirely AU/rewrite based and probably pushing more towards making them OCs but blame it on the fact i was a diaries kid not a mystreet kid. no they didnt meet in high school and while Gene's still an asshole he's not the creep he was in PDH. shit was weird as fuck.

the basic tl;dr of said rewrite is Gene was a high school drop out, Zane ran away from home at 18. they eventually meet in their 20s and become roommates while both trying to Fix Their Shit:tm: basically tried to ground mystreet in reality type shit idk you can ask more about it if you want i just like to brain rot about them when i am big sad.

also blanket dni proship/darkship/whatever the hell people are calling it over here. i dont want any of that thanks.

What fears do Neo have?

Failure.

Failure in so many different ways.

So what was Bug's reaction when they learned that Ren feels the same? How'd they find out?

Oh god here we go.

Okay first off - let it be known these two are both stupid. I mean that with so much love but we've got:

Mr. Ren "I've always been second best and have severe issues relating to that feeling of always being behind/less than others" Myeong

and

Mx. Neo "I love all my friends so much my only value is in repaying them the love i think they are owed' Rejuvenation.

So needless to say, neither of these dorks even think the other may even be Slightly interested them in that way. What changes? Simple.

#1 Wingman Venam Vasile and her inability to shut up (/pos).

Neo didn't realize what they feeling was romantic attraction, but Venam did. And Venam teased them Relentlessly. All in good fun but she absolutely thought it was hilarious that mx. interceptor over there is scary enough to beat a kyogre but curls into a tiny ball out of embarrassment out of the sheer Idea of him and Ren being together.

For Ren? Reina. It was Reina. As his sister it is in her contract to make fun of him religiously. And thus, "oh my god you have a crush on Neo. AWWWW MY BABY BROTHER HAS A CRUSHHH-" (reina is. like maybe 20 minutes older.) and when Ren tells her to knock it off, she then swings in again with "who could say no to such a pretty face uwu" and they fall into an actual conversation with Reina at some point grabbing his goofy ass by the shoulders and going "HEY. SHOOT YOUR SHOT DUMBASS OR ELSE I'LL DO IT FOR YOU."

So, Ren confessed first. Sort of. Like he did confess first but it was more of he was trying to find the words and Neo just kinda. blurting it out. As for reactions - i mean, they're teenagers. combo deal of "oh my god they like me back" and "now what.?"

they figure it out in the end tho. :3

What's something kind of mundane yet sweet that Neo did for or said to Ren which made him feel loved?

were gonna pretend i totally answered these at a reasonable time and didnt forget to answer them. cool? cool.

so a big thing for Neo is that can genuinely "feel" emotions put into things. they are a walking vibe check. so say someone hands him a letter and its full of nasty insults. from the moment that person handed that letter over, Neo knew that that letter was BadTM.

with that in mind, i've had a headcanon for a long time that Ren's a pretty good cook. i've flipped-flopped on my reasons, but either way, he's good. Neo has trouble eating a lot of the time - not in the disordered way, but more in the "i am not a human being and can survive off very little even though it's not healthy" sort of way.

they don't just do that with food, they do it with everything. they'll stay awake for days at a time (like literally 90+ hours) and then crash and sleep for 48 hours. most of their friends are. semi-aware of these issues? but with Neo's habit of "look there they are- oh nevermind they're gone" its hard to help pull them into good habits.

Ren, picking up on Neo's bad habits, makes a conscious effort to make sure they get rest and eat actual food when he's around. During the main game, probably doesn't happen a lot just because. Y'know. Everything. But later on, he's definitely the one to pull Neo down from those unhealthy no-food no-sleep binges.

Tying it all together, Ren's care for Neo is made within the stuff he makes. So cooking for him is a gift of love to them - and Neo can quite literally taste that emotion. it's sweet and makes everything taste perfect. And Neo is unabashed about it and often comment little things relating to it!! They can notice all the minor differences, can pick up how he's feeling, and is just so absolutely enamored by those feelings they can't help but get really. affectionate? when he's around.

basically - neo is so adoring because theyre trying to match that energy and ren, someone who was very much looked over constantly? yeah.
