Why do people infantilize Pesci like bro he’s a hitman/hitman in training a specific job in a gang especially because he doesn’t look or act childish both in anime and ESPECIALLY the manga and wants to actually be good at the job hence him learning from Prosciutto(albeit a very harsh way but it’s the mafia not some fun secret club) idk why they think this grown dude wanting to be a hitman but being hesitant and nervous on job is kiddish/innocent, is it just cause he isn’t seen as “attractive”
Hmm... I'm guessing there are a few things at play but definitely lack of confidence and mannerism of speech that makes him look not very bright. So Pesci and Prosciutto are a bit like Pinky and the Brain, at first glance. The trope is broken bc Pesci ultimately asserts himself (and is shortly after killed by Bruno).
So confidence+meh looks = Loki. Confidence and a suit you get people thirsting over Prosciutto. Pesci's lack of confidence comes with the way he talks that makes it seem he's not very bright, when in fact he's just inhibited and lacks self-confidence.
In Pesci's case they both contribute to him being seen as smart as a child. Which is why I didn't like the dub choice of voice (no shame to the VA he's just doing the job with what the script requested): Pesci sounding like Patrick from Spongebob adds to our association with him being dull-minded, and I feel actual Pesci was more a diamond in the rough kind of person.
I'll be honest when I get cognitively overloaded (stress or a mental breakdown) I won't sound like Shakespeare either. So Pesci being nervous all the time definitely doesn't help how he expresses himself: sometimes you have a good idea, but the way it comes out of your mouth doesn't do it justice. That's Pesci.
We also don't know his backstory; Prosciutto is a bad mentor, but there's something accepting in the way he deals with Pesci. "We make you go out with us to change your habits." He sees things he doesn't like in Pesci (that's your opinion, aniki), but he believes by Pesci hanging around the right people he can change. Maybe Pesci has some trauma and that affects how he acts; all La Squadra have issues that manifest in different ways.
Which makes Pesci more interesting bc what did Risotto see in someone so "weak" to let him into the team? Risotto is a no bullshit guy; he's kind to his men (shares wages equally for example and involves all in decision making), but he's not the most empathetic person. In a way, Risotto is kind if you pick his interest. So if Prosciutto found Pesci first, for Risotto to accept Pesci into the team Risotto must have seen something. Or Prosciutto saw something, and told Risotto. In this fic I will... 👀
I wished people saw characters like Pesci framed in a bigger picture: why did La Squadra accept him, when he has no self-esteem? Was Araki inspired by something like Pinky and the Brain trope but reversed it? Did Pesci had to be ugly bc if you gather 9 men half of them will end up below average?
Also idk if Pesci is ugly or he has some developmental defects? What if there was some accident when his mother was pregnant? Or at a young age and that affected his looks? It would be interesting to see a more 'raw' (less flamboyant) design of him, that would make him look tougher maybe? And change people's minds?
People exaggerate a lot at times when it comes to him dating. Yes he would probably ask Prosciutto for advice (I would bc he seems to be the only guy in the team who can flirt). But he's not the guy to not know what a condom is or dumb shit like that. He's not that sheltered. He may not know how to seduce others (I don't either) but he's not silly to not understand in theory what a kiss is or what sex is...
