“That does not exactly narrow down the possibilities, Kol. I am quite certain that that description fits about half of the town at this particular moment. If you thought I lied to myself to be able to forge the alliances I have broken, you are very much mistaken. I do not believe in creating chaos just for the sake of chaos, as you seem to enjoy so much. Nor do I believe in leaving our brother in the hands of who knows who any longer than strictly necessary. It has been weeks, Kol. And all that time we have no idea what anyone could possibly do to him. Or what that could mean that for us.”
❝ Perhaps you should’ve asked a specific question then instead of making a general assumption. --- Oh no, I was referring to functioning in general. You wouldn’t survive if someone were to knock you off that moral high horse of yours. I, on the other hand, will thrive because I’m not ashamed of who I am. --- I have a DECENT idea of what they are doing to him. You would too if you connected the dots. ❞

“I don’t care if you have fun or not. Go away.”
❝ Getting bold, are we? Unfortunately for you, mate, I don’t take orders from anyone. ❞
damon.
“If you don’t care, do you think you could do that somewhere else?”
❝ I could, but where would the fun be in that? ❞
damon.
“Come on, I’m having a bad month and hearing you lurk is pissing me off.”
❝ How fortunate it is then that I don’t care how my actions affect your mood. ❞

“And without a doubt you will refuse to tell me anything about this mysterious person you trust? The only reason people do hate me more than you at the moment, is because I did give them reason to trust me in the first place. Foolish perhaps, but maybe if Niklaus had shared his plans with us earlier, that might have gone differently. With you, Kol, they will not even attempt to do that. I have been above you. That is the only way you can fall down, after all. But you think you can free our brother earlier alone than we can if we work together?”
❝ Well, this person loathes you with the fiery passion of a thousand burning suns. There, now you can’t claim I haven’t told you anything about this person. --- I’m happy with where I am because I don’t have to lie to myself in order to function. --- Yes, but I won’t throw a tantrum if it takes longer than I initially anticipated. I’m sure Nik can survive a few additional days wherever he is. ❞

He’s persistent, she’ll give him that. There is a boundary between persistent and annoying however, and she’s fairly certain he aims on being the second of the two. Coming to the cafe instead of the Grill was supposed to give her some peace and quiet. Apparently not. She ignores the laugh that escapes him, even if it does irritate her. The only response she gives him is to scoff at his offer. She could get into any one of these universities. An IQ of 174, extra curricular activies that were unparalleled and a winning interview attitude. She’d never be able to go to them. Chained to Mystic and her coven for as long as they needed her - which would likely be forever. It was nice to imagine, and she wouldn’t let Kol ruin her enjoyment. Instead, she tilted her head to the side he was standing, blocking his view as she signed the end of one application, moving on to another and turning to a passing waitress.
❝ Can I get a chai latte, please? No, he doesn’t want anything. ❞
For a fleeting moment, he was confused because of her reaction. He raised his eyebrows, only to have his facial expression return to normal almost immediately. He had figured out ( or at least thought he had ) why she had rejected his rather gracious offer. It had to have something to do with her friends and coven. What else was holding her back? She certainly was smart enough to get accepted to each of those schools. She didn’t seem like the type of person who would abandon her own future plans for her family either. Her friends and coven were the only logical reasons why she would choose to stay in Mystic Hills instead of trying to metaphorically conquer the world.
He shook his head, the gesture accompanied by a roll of his eyes, before he mirrored her actions and turned towards the waitress, a charming smile on his lips.
❝ She’s right. I ate just before I came here, so nothing for me. ❞
As soon as she left, his attention was on her again. The smile was still there, although now there was a glint of genuine pity in his eyes, visible even beneath the layer mischievousness.
❝ Just so you know, darling, my offer doesn’t have an expiration date. The best moment to use it would be now, though. Who knows if you’re able to find me in a few years. ❞
He in his madness prays for storms, and dreams that storms will bring him peace.

“Is there still anyone left you can trust? I know the rest of the town rather wants us dead. I do think they resent me even a bit more than you, but still, I can’t imagine they’re suddenly trusting you. This is not about you nor me, Kol. This is about Niklaus, and every day he is captured longer because we argue is a day too long.”
❝ Yes, in fact, there is. By the way, how does it feel? After centuries of telling yourself that you’re ABOVE me, people’s hatred of you is s t r o n g e r than their hatred of me. It must be difficult to accept. --- I am aware of that; it’s exactly why I prefer working on my own for the most part. ❞
elijah.
“I never said we had to go back to trusting each other, Kol. You’ve wasted that opportunity one time too many. Still… I will not allow our enmity to stand in the way of saving our brother, and I assume you feel the same. We need to work together on this, Kol, because no one else will do that for us. And sharing information is a part of that.”
❝ I work more efficiently with people I can trust. We need to work together? I’m sorry, but I can work just fine on my own. You are the one who needs me. ❞
lydia.
the urge to reply is definitely there, but instead she simply huffs and then looks down at her applications, crossing one leg over the other and leaning her elbows on the table, completely ignoring his presence. she doubts that he’s used to being ignored, but that just makes it more fun for her.
He’s not surprised at all to see that she actually tries ignoring him. The attempt is almost, dare he say, adorable-----it’s certainly enough to make him smile. He has always been fond of competitions and games; this, much like most of their encounters so far, will be just that. He moves forward until he’s standing right behind her, glancing at the names of colleges she’s planning on applying to. A chuckle escapes from his lips; of course she would settle for nothing less than some of the best universities in the world.
❝ That’s an impressive list of universities. Which one is your top choice? I have friends there and I could put in a good word for you. ❞
elijah.
“And pass by a chance that they would have forgotten some parts of their security that we could have used to our advantage? But seeing that you are so indignant over what we have tried, I do assume you have achieved much more. So… do share your findings, Kol.”
❝ Considering your recent behaviour towards me, I don’t think so. We only have our desire to murder those responsible for taking Nik in common. That makes you my ally, not someone I trust. ❞
lydia.
❝ It’s a free country, Kol. You can sit down wherever you like and from this point on I can avoid talking to or looking at you. ❞
❝ I doubt you’ll be successful, darling. ❞
lydia.
❝ What? No, you can sit there, I’m just reading over my applications. ❞
❝ Can I? Well, this was easier than I thought it would be. ❞
“Frustratingly enough, not as much as I would want to. They are good at hiding their traces, and a locator spell turned out to be quite useless as well. I do hope you fared better? Although I doubt that…”
❝ What a surprise. Had you and Bekah used common sense, you would’ve realized it immediately and could’ve spent the time WASTED on the locator spell on something USEFUL. ❞

“ Sometimes when things get too quiet around here, it’s JUST as bad as when something is going on. ”
❝ You are realizing that NOW, after living— what? Most of your life on top of the Hellmouth? Congratulations, mate. ❞
❝ Brother dearest. Have you found anything SOMETHING? ❞
