“And when I was young, did I ever tell you, I always wanted to get inside a book and never come out again? I loved reading so much I wanted to be a part of it, and there were some books I could have stayed in for ever.”
— Peter Ackroyd (via purplebuddhaquotes)
Touch her somewhere other than her body.
read this out loud:
• I am allowed to take a break today
• It’s not selfish to put my feelings and health first
• I need to remember to care for myself
• I should be allowed to express myself, I am lovely as I am
Anxiety
For me, it hits you all at once and it’s paralyzing. With anxiety, it’s kind of like breathing normally, but feeling like you’re drowning. You can’t put thoughts together, your heart races, you panic. it’s like that feeling when you lean back in your chair too far, and almost fall - but it’s not a second long - it can last for hours.Â
It is the realization that you cannot control with 100% certainty of what happens to you or anyone else. It’s worrying and caring so much for the people you love that you neglect yourself the most. Neglecting yourself to the point where you don’t know when the last time you took a bite of anything was, or when was the last time you stopped to enjoy or think about something that makes you happy? It makes self care seem selfish and the guilt hits you like a hurricane until you’re on the track of putting someone else first again.Â
Works in progress.
Another plant painting!
do you ever wake up and just crave intimacy? Like you’d give anything to have woken up with someone’s arms around you and to be able to feel their breath on your neck? Idk i’m lame
Finished watercolor
Finally feeling like my normal self. At least physically. Here’s my face. I clean up nice sometimes.
How do you do it?
To those who practice healthcare, those who see trauma patients and patients in comas, the suffering families, how do you do it?
I can’t even watch a video on patients who suffer from comas without wanting to cry.
How do you handle the feeling of helplessness as family members ask if they will ever talk again? Walk again? Where prognostics are so poor, how can you say I don’t know to those eyes pleasing for answers?
How do you balance being the compassionate professional with the strong, knowledgeable practitioner?
How do you handle the raw pain of being human in these circumstances?
I started seeing a therapist.
I agree with @freshrn - counseling is very helpful. I also write haikus about the emotional trauma I deal with because it makes me analyze and confront the events so that I can tell the story in 17 syllables.
Whatever you choose to do, please don’t keep it inside. Get help. See a therapist. Something to help you process the emotions.
We’re in your corner!
I work in long term care as a CNA and work a great deal with coma, post trauma, dementia and hospice patients. Therapy. Therapy. Therapy. Whether through your pcp referrels or many facilities offer counseling options. There’s also group therapy options as well.
This applies for all caregivers, professional and familar. As welll as all first responders. Don’t keep it in and don’t think there’s shame in looking for extra help.
I’m so glad that caregivers are taking care of themselves
I would be absolutely LOST without the amazing nurses and PTs and OTs who work in Neurology and Oncology. I honestly think it’s a calling to get into that work. I can’t imagine how difficult it is. I am so thankful that people choose it.
Not knowing what your passion is, is hard. Don’t give up on yourself. You will find it, or it will find you :)

This would be helpful for students who want to pull all nighters but can’t do it in their rooms.
I REALLY want to make this happen.
I confess I do not know why, but looking at the stars always makes me dream.
Vincent van Gogh (via thoughtkick)
Sometimes when I look at you, I feel I’m gazing at a distant star. It’s dazzling, but the light is from tens of thousands of years ago. Maybe the star doesn’t even exist any more. Yet sometimes that light seems more real to me than anything.
