Subtitles
After my first draft of my opening title sequence, I realised that white subtitles are sometimes hard to read so I decided to make changes to it. Instead of having both the language be white, I made the english subtitles in blue because the colour blue was consistent throughout my entire opening title sequence so I wanted to include it more into the interview as well as it is the starting of my opening title sequence.
By doing two colours for the subtitles, it is also unique and most films don't do this which was a way I was challenging the convention aswell.
It is also easier for people to focus on what language subtitle they want to read because one colour will be for one language so if you wanted to only read the english subtitles you will only need to look at the blue subtitle.
UPDATED Shotlist
This is my second time making a shotlist.
I did this to show which shotlist had made it into the final and how many more shots did I take overall for my opening title sequence.
second draft of opening title sequence
Title explanation
I chose the word 'Reminiscene' because my opening title sequence consists a memory sequence of my main character and this is the important part that will show its storyline to the audiences.
I chose this font because it is like you are painting the sky which I think visually, came out very aesthetic and the font also gives off a feeling that it won't stay for long as you can see the paint is not full which created some holes in the letter which I think of it as memories starting to slowly disappear.
The colour blue of the title is lighter than the sky making the title stand out more even though it is lighter, I went with this shade of blue which is still quite dark.
Audio design for the interview
I got the inspiration to use this sound when questions pop up for the interview from a youtube video that I was watching. They used this same sound effect to change texts on the screen which gave me the idea that I should try and use this sound effect for my texts as well so then I searched up 'clicky sound effect' and this youtube video came up which was exactly the sound that I was looking for.
I think that this sound is perfect for the questions because it catches the audience's attention to read the new questions on the video.
Production logo
This is the final outcome of the production title without sound.
I chose the name 'shimmer' for my production logo because my opening title sequence consistently shows the beach which then made me want to name my production logo relating to the beach. I first went on to thesaurus.com to look at synonyms I could use for the word 'sun' and there were a lot of options to choose from but the word shimmer caught my eye because the sun is bright and shimmering and I also thought that the name sounded very nice and fitting.
I made the word blue and added the effect of glowing to the word to show the contrast between sadness and happiness. The colour blue was also shown throughout my whole media project and it is to represent sadness and grief, this then creates the contrast of the word shimmer being something positive and bright while this media project is not so positive as it was shown. The glowing effect was used because shimmer was representing the sun and the sun is bright so by doing this, it adds on the contrast that I wanted the audience to feel.
I chose to do a slow reveal motion for this because it was the easiest to do and it also matches the audio I found that was free to use for production logo. It also guides the audience slowly to the start of my opening title sequence and this also shows the pace of the opening title sequence of it being slow.
Editing production logo
I have changed my production logo name from 'CC PRODUCTION' to 'SHIMMER PRODUCTION'. I came up with the name CC which the intials stands for my full name and it was boringm
As for my ideas for my production title, I actually wanted it to be animated. However, I looked up on the internet and watched tutorials on how to animate texts and it was too difficult and time-consuming so then I found an alternative to animation which is the 'Mask' option in Capcut. It was very quick and easy and the result is what I wanted.
I had to do the editing on my phone rather than my MacBook because it was easier to find fonts that I like and it was less complicated to edit. After I was done with the editing, I airdropped it onto my MacBook and then add it in Capcut to my opening title sequence.
Overlay
I have changed my mind about the effects that I will use because I felt like the black colour film effect was rather more like watching a film than watching old memories so then I tried to find the same effect on capcut but in white, which was the one that I have tried before. it was called 'noise 2'. It was not really great because when I tried to use it again, it messes up my color adjustments of the videos so then I solved this problem by going on youtube and searching for free film overlay to use and I found this one called 'old film gravy overlay' video. I was having difficulties downloading the video directly into my MacBook, so I overcame the problem by screen-recording the video on my iPhone and then airdropping the video onto my Macbook.
I had change my idea for wanting the memory sequence to look sad because I think that if the memory sequence were to be interpreted as good memories would create a deeper meaning. I wanted to show the main character feeling grief.
First draft of opening title sequence
Shot types
These are shot types I frequently use throughout my opening title sequence.
When my characters are present, it is usually shown by medium shot because it is to focus on their face but also able to see their clothes.
Wide shots were also used a lot because it is to establish the location of the characters and since my opening title sequence was taken in a lot of places, this is essential.
Possible effects
I have explored the effects that are available on cap cut and this one caught my eye which was called 'noise 1'.
The effect I wanted to use for the memory sequence was an effect that could show the audience that the memory sequence was in the past and that the main character was having a flashback. So, an effect of an old film was decided to be used.
There were two types of these old film effect that I tried which was 'noise 1' and the other one being 'noise 2'. these were different in terms of colour, one being black and one being white. I did not choose the white one because I thought that the white colour would not really show that it is a memory sequence and that it makes the sequence too bright and it is supposed to be sad and old memories. The black colour shows the main character's emotion of grief and as if he was trying to remember the past which was what I wanted to show for this part of my opening title sequence.
Final soundtrack/music choice
My final music choice for my opening title sequence is a sound track from a movie called "A man and Woman". I had mentioned this movie before in my blog posts and it is a big influence to my media product.
I chose this song because it is very slow pace and the overall of the music really creates a very emotional feeling and I hope it will make the audience feel the same.
Colour grading: interview
This is the interview shot, I have colour graded the shots to make the lighting darker and less vibrant. This is because the atmosphere that I want for this is quite sad so vibrant colors won't fit.
