I've seen these images a billion times uncredited. This is the first time I've ever seen them linked to the actual magazine, which is awesome—it's the back cover of a 1991 issue of Sovetskoe Foto.

The magazine is all in Russian, and it's been a while since I've flexed that muscle, but from the credit/table of contents (on Pg. 3) it looks like this is the work of a photographer named Yuri Trifonov from his series Mirages. Now, Yuri Trifonov is also the name of a famous Russian poet, but he died well before this, so I don't think he's the photographer. Maybe this guy was named after him. But if anyone else wants to translate page 3, please feel free.
