           cherry  cringed  slightly.  she  didn’t  mean  for  charity  to  have  to  steal  the  seventh  years  favorite  treat  on  their  final  train  ride  home,  but  the  guilt  was  also  washed  over  by  her  own  love  for  the  chocolate  goody.  “  then  i’ll  just  have  to  throw  the  others  out  and  only  keep  this  one,  ”  she  challenged  back  with  a  wrinkle  of  her  nose.  “  i’m  sure  the  poor  lad  will  be  fine,  right  ?  they’ll  soon  have  a  big  job  where  they  can  afford  tons  of  chocolate  frogs.  ”

“Do you actually collect them?” Her eyebrows raised, almost a bit surprised to hear it, even if it was just simple banter. It was pleasant, and a bit rare. Sometimes things that took less energy could be all the more pleasant. But Charity nodded along anyway. “Most definitely, and if not. I’m sure there are plenty more of other varieties in actual candy shops than compared to cart which holds at most twelve of any treat.”

“i’m not going to argue with you.” she said then, because to her seven years wasn’t vintage. to her, something had to be ten years out of style to be vintage but to each their own, right? “since when did you get so informed about guitars? steal some of the magazines from under my bed then?” she teased but she was truly curious. either charity knew a lot about a few things or she knew a few things about a lot. “i’m aware of the price, charity.” she was getitng irritated, why did her friend feel the need to talk down to her like this, and about guitars of all things, one of the few things doris was extremely knowledgeable about. “i may be on the lookout for something specific but i’m sure i’ll go home with something, i can’t help myself.” she tried to infuse some amount of laughter back into this conversation.

Charity did not share every part of herself with classmates, a lot more was reserved for another part of her world. And it was strange to come to terms with, and she’d rather fight it more often than not. School was plenty of discussions, sharing her beliefs, but perhaps it was also where she was more restrained. Home, the city, full of people she did truly grow up with were beyond that. Beyond the tidbits that made up her insides and outsides. “It’s nothing new to me.” She shrugged, plenty of her friends were musicians, traveling in bands. And she rarely shared her own ability to pick out tunes, much like her affinity for arithmancy and all maths, she was sure those were connected topics. “Then, a higher end music shop may do you better, it would. But afraid, I don’t know those as well.” A solid admission from the girl who breathed this city in her lungs, a release of her own East London coated voice often masked by the ability to perform a standard accent - which she liked better in a way. “But it can be worth it.”

Ivy looked at charity biting the chocolate and nodded “Look, Char… I’ve got something to tell you but I don’t know how you’re doing to take it and I’ve just… why didn’t you tell me you were snogging Eric Allaire?”

“Sudden change of topics.” Charity commented, choosing to just look Ivy head on. And it would have been simplest to shrug it off, but she was the person who chose words carefully. Sometimes they weren’t simple, but they had to make sense: “I don’t drink, you know. I never liked it, it tastes bad and I don’t think feeling drunk really elevates me in anyway. It’s much more important to be able to converse and make sense, that’s the better part of it all. And even then, there are some people talking to is quite simple and sometimes...words are just part of it. I only snog someone if I really like them, Ivy.”

“Why didn’t you tell me it would be a concern?”

“oh? i’m sure you’d like to elaborate, i’ve never known you to pass up an oppotrunity to that is.” and she’d listen, because if she could vent about guitars then charity could vent about the state of the world. “i think we’re still talking about vintage things, but i’d take that too you know, i could fix up an old one just as easily as i could tune a new one.” she admitted with a shrug. “this is a particular mission.” she tried to keep any irritation out of her voice, sometimes charity was tough to read. 

“It’s seven years old, to some that is vintage.” Charity raised her eyebrow. “And of course we haven’t even gone into custom cuts, electric mainly for you I assume, A deluxe maybe?” She twirled her finger around, looking for the words. “And even then for Les Paul model used you are looking at probably close to 900 quid, you know. Used or not. Epiphones will always be a dime a dozen, I think. And vintage shops always seem to be lined with Strats.”

“no harm in checking, but you’re probably right. it’s such a shame the wixen world hasn’t managed to integrate more muggle items and ideas.” it was difficult to straddle the line between magic and muggle but she knew charity understood. “i doubt they’d have such a newer model in a charity shop, is this just an excuse to go thrifting?” she teased.

“I think it is more from a lack of necessity than an interest.” No, new objects seemed to come from the needs of individuals and groups rather than just the idea that the thing existing would be good. “Would it not depend on where the shop is?” Charity doubted they’d find something somewhere like Whitechapel, however perhaps seeking somewhere near Portobello Road or a few streets out of Trafalgar. “Well, I am not one who loves shopping in all honesty. Unless, it is a particular mission.”

last  thing  she  pretended  to  hearken  was  the  typical  you’re  not  allowed  here  anywhere  which  was  dismissed  as  soon  as  the  door  slammed  shut  .  summer  is  supposed  to  be  that  exclusive  period  of  time  where  people  like  her  are  allowed  to  relax  and  have  fun  ⸻  growing  up  is  enough  as  it  is     ( atrocious )    ,  she  needs  to  forget  about  school.  it’s  top  priority.  nevertheless  ,  it  wasn’t  like  she  hadn’t  already  skimmed  through  the  same  pages  for  the  last  couple  of  hours  .  she  meticulously  changed  her  outfit  and  bolted  out  of  the  house  through  a  back  door  ,  next  stop  :  the  neighbourhood  ,  that  of  course  before  having  the  genuine  kind  of  fun  in  muggle  london  .  heart  was  pounding  after  the  short  marathon  she  just  had    ( perhaps  she  really  was  out  of  shape )    ,  thus  ,  she  slant  forward  ,  hands  gripping  on  knees    ❝  don’t  .  fail  .  class  .  ❞    phonants  so  low  she  could  scarcely  hear  herself  .  inhaling  a  deep  amount  of  air  ,  she  continued  ,    ❝  i’m  okay  now  ,  i  think  .  .  .  quick  ,  tell  me  a  good  place  to  hide  and  also  drink  something  ,  anything  .  ❞    index  finger  pointing  towards  the  familiar  face  .

Charity didn’t love opening shop for the day. It was the same routine as closing, but reversed. Plus some more in preparation - the kitchen, the lavatory, the bins, chasing out the afternoon drunkards. But that little pub sitting on the corner of a street somewhere in Hackney was hers. And least afternoons were usually quiet. Her key was barley turned when she caught the sight in the corner of her eye. It was amusing in a way that a person could just pop out of the blue. But she felt bad, seeing the flush to the others face, the heavy breathes. The same way she felt trying to make the last train of the evening. Not that it mattered much anymore if she didn’t. “How about some water for you.” Her head nodded to the door, finally jimmied open, completing the action with a kick of her foot and holding it open.

                “  well,  i’d  imagine  they  have  as  much  use  as  you  wish  them  to  —  they  should  come  in  handy  .  most  people  lack  the  ability  to  argue  their  points  with  intelligence  .  ”  the  blonde  shrugged  gently  ,  charity’s  point  flying  high  over  her  head  —  amaline  had  been  raised  in  the  midst  of  her  father’s  meetings  ,  she’d  grown  to  appreciate  healthy  discussions  of  opinion  .  she  didn’t  partake  in  them  often  ,  not  when  she  held  most  of  her  thoughts  like  cards  close  to  her  chest  ,  but  she  still  valued  those  who  were  good  at  it  .  she  blinked  when  the  other  girl  spoke  ,  bringing  herself  out  of  her  thoughts  and  back  into  reality  ,  the  ghost  of  a  smile  dancing  on  her  lips  —  eyes  moving  to  the  chocolate  and  back  at  the  ravenclaw  before  she  spoke  again  .  "  nostalgia  more  than  anything  ,  i  think  —  the  house  elves  always  snuck  me  treats  as  a  child  .  .  .  and  they’re  sweet  enough  to  make  your  tongue  tingle  if  you  let  it  settle  .  they’re  fun  .  "

There was always something off about this Selwyn, their eyes going off somewhere else at a mere discussion point. Charity would prefer not to be talking to herself but that did seem the case right now. Her hands made her way back to her pockets one the treat had left her grip. Hearing about anyone who had multiple house elves always fascinated her. And maybe it shouldn’t anymore, even though one seemed to be even too much. “I suppose it would be more the memory associated with, unless tingly tongues appeal to you?” Her own senses would not favor that. “I believe sour treats do the same.”

Ivy had been hungover and half asleep the whole trainride back she heard the other girl come back into the compartment, she woke up with a groan and nodded. “hey Char, that looks great thanks.” She said taking the chocolate hoping it’ll help her mood but she did feel a bit guilty looking at the girl, not just for the fight she had to put up for the sweets but that she’d not told her she was meant to be getting married.

“You look like a ghost passed through you, you know.” Charity sat herself back down, grin moving from joyous to critical concern with straight lips. “But I have heard that chocolate is truly a cure all. And I’d believe it myself.” This had been a good year’s end for in a lot of ways. At least in reflection all felt well, looking forward - well, she assumed that uncertainty was just part of growing up. “Are feeling all right?”

           he  was  honestly  relieved  at  her  own  admission.  not  that  he  assumed  it  was  one  sided,  because  it  was  evident  that  it  wasn’t,  but  more  so  that  she  was  also  making  the  first  move  to  kiss  him.  he  helped  her  out  by  offering  more  pressure  into  the  kiss,  letting  his  hand  reach  up  to  cup  the  side  of  her  jaw.  her  scent  was  intoxicating  to  him,  but  also  took  away  any  sense  of  alcohol  that  might’ve  still  been  in  his  system.  he  felt  a  sober  as  could  be,  but  drunk  off  of  the  taste  of  her  lips.  he  hoped  the  firewhisky  on  his  breath  was  a  good  thing,  rather  than  a  con.  but  as  much  as  he  wanted  to  stay  where  they  were,  he  had  to  remember  their  surroundings  and  the  one,  little  thing  still  on  his  mind,  so  he  pulled  away  slowly.  “  will  you  say  that  again  ?  ”  he  whispered,  his  thumb  still  rubbing  on  her  cheek  as  he  grinned.  “  that  i’m  right  ?  ”

Charity was never one to drink, but she could sense remnants of alcohol when he pulled her closer. Firewhiskey which left a tingle on her lips was almost welcomed. It was not a bitter thing that signified the loss of control. It was warm and spiced, and her finger tips curled into the sides of his arms. Feeling tense was unusual for her, so it was not until it released that she knew she was even holding it. Her eyes felt wide when he gently pulled away. “That’s what you’d like me to say again?” Gently amused grin crept back up, one handing grabbing his free one. “That you’re right?” Lids flickered down, dragging out her answer to his request for an elongated moment before she looked up to him almost teasing out the words “Éric Allaire, you were bloody right.” Even with the exaggeration her hand left a small squeeze. “Good now?”

           “  thank  you  times  a  bazillion  —  ”  cherry  called  out,  grabbing  charity’s  hand  in  hers  before  accepting  the  chocolate  frog  as  a  new  prized  possession.  “  i’ll  keep  the  card  in  here  forever  in  remembrance  of  this  moment  and  your  sacrifice.  ”  at  that  point,  cherry  was  oozing  sarcasm  and  just  wanted  to  mess  with  charity  and  her  dramatics  over  the  treat.  “  now  i’m  curious,  what  was  your  argument  ?  ”

Charity’s lips broke into a wide smile at the sight before her. “Yes, my grandest sacrifice.” But to her question, the girl just shrugged. “Just that the last snack you need to have on the Hogwarts express as a seventh year, must be your absolute favorite. And how tragic would it be if that were a chocolate frog? You may end up with the same card you have thirty of and it is harder to keep that memorable. So perhaps I’ve traumatized them, but it’s all well worth it.”

“i’m looking for the 1970 gibson les paul, do you think they’ll have it? i love that we have such a good music shop, i just wonder if i’m better off checking the muggle stores first. but i’m here so i might as well, right?”

“There’s plenty of music stores that would have one...just not here I don’t think. Wouldn’t you maybe want to check the charity shops first?” Her brows turned to concern, knowing the expense of what she also did not have. “The used ones, I mean. You might have more luck if you think about it. Especially more luck than here.”

           éric  nodded  along  to  her  words,  thankful  she  didn’t  dig  too  deep  into  his  lack  of  answers  he  could  give  her.  a  surprise  to  him  since  charity  always  seemed  like  the  kind  that  needed  answers  no  matter  what.  a  deep  conversation  into  why  éric  allaire  had  no  friends  definitely  would’ve  dampened  the  mood  as  well,  so  instead,  he  leaned  in  just  a  little  bit  more  as  she  did.  a  small  upturn  of  his  lips  at  her  question,  éric  responded:  “  yes,  i  am.  ”  he  wasn’t  going  to  beat  around  the  bush  for  they  were  finally  in  a  position  he’d  waited  so  long  for,  and  he  wasn’t  sure  when  they’d  soon  be  interrupted  by  incoming  partiers.  “  we  both  know  we’re  not  friends  —  not  only  that.  don’t  tell  me  i’m  the  only  one  who  thinks  that  way.  ”  his  answer  added  with  a  slight  tilt  of  his  head  as  his  eyes  flickered  across  her  face.  he  knew  the  answer  to  his  own  semi-question,  but  he  wanted  to  hear  —  or  see  it  —  from  her,  first.  

Charity let herself grow silent for a moment. She’d rather stop words from coming out than say the entirely wrong thing. It was like buying time to look down at her finger tips which she noticed had begun to fiddle with the nails on her opposite hand. “All right,” she resolved, looking back up to blue eyes. Straight-forward was her line. It always had been. “You’re right, it’s not just that.” It hadn’t been for a while. But this was not something she was trying to ignore, rather she thought she knew the type of person éric was. And being proved wrong on any level was foreign. So she’d kept herself at bay longer than usual. But hearing this aloud told her to lean in; because if anything, being able to admit you were wrong was a stronger move than holding onto any prejudices. “I’ll even say it out loud, I like you a lot.” No, shyness wasn’t her forte. Reservations were not to be mixed up with regard for conduct. And even then, Charity just barely let her lips catch his for a moment. The barest test for the words she just shared.

    Scarlett approaches the girl with a wry grin, eyeing the wand poking out of her bag with a knowing look. “You should probably put that away before you accidentally break the statute of secrecy,” she says, voice low so no one else can overhear, giving the wix a wink as she does so. She had her own wand on her too, of course, but it was hidden strategically in a thigh holster, and though the muggles wouldn’t really know what the item was, better to be safe than obliviating someone.

“If one can walk down the street in full blown robes and a glittery hat discussing their new field of mandrakes,” Charity looked up, already knowing fully well what this would be about, “without being accused of the same. Then surely, my wooden stick with a simplistically ornate handle will raise less alarm.” Of course, she let the object back into her pocket. She rarely ran into others on the street, and it wasn’t as joyful as she’d like it to be. This was her other world, and as much as she’d like them to blend. Wixes of this variety were the reason she found some solace in their separation.

                amaline  blinked  slowly  once  ,  then  twice  ,  wondering  just  how  someone  would  go  as  far  as  to  argue  with  someone  over  what  she’d  assumed  would  just  be  a  passing  comment  .  she’d  wanted  the  chocolate  ,  but  .  .  .  she  was  impressed  ,  and  just  a  bit  touched  at  the  other  girl’s  response  .  the  polite  smile  she  always  carried  on  her  face  shifted  ,  this  time  reaching  her  eyes  as  she  took  the  chocolate  ,  working  on  the  packaging  as  she  spoke  .  "  thank  you  ,  that  was  very  nice  of  you  .  here  ,  "  with  a  gentle  shift  on  her  seat  ,  amaline  presented  charity  with  an  open  packet  ,  nudging  her  to  take  some  .  "  it’s  only  fair  we  share  after  your  brilliant  display  of  argumentative  skills  .  "

Charity wouldn’t refuse the treat now, at least not a small piece of it. A little bit was good, as she never really cared for things that were all that sweet. “Thanks.” She told the other softly. There was something she really enjoyed about even the smallest discussions, or arguments in this case. But it seemed others were more easily angered than she was. “If only my skills for argumentation had better uses at the end of the day.” It seemed that changing the mind’s of others, in the large scheme was nothing something to be done through intellectual discussion. No, people liked things straight to the point - she’d develop that skill eventually. “Now, why do you care for these so much?” The brunette laughed a bit a the sugary taste. “Think they’re a lot sweeter than I ever remembered.”

           éric  tilted  his  head  to  the  side  ever  so  slightly  at  her  emphasis  of  one  of  his  favorite  words.  in  truth,  he’d  rather  spend  his  time  at  the  party  with  charity  alone,  while  together.  shifting  in  his  own  position  to  inch  closer  to  her  as  she  moved,  éric  leaned  in  slightly  to  move  a  stray  curl  she  had  missed  from  her  face.  “  not  anymore,  no.  ”  he  replied  plainly,  taking  his  time  pushing  the  strand  of  hair  away  before  slowly  pulling  away  again.  he  had  thought  about  his  old  friendship  with  sirius  for  a  short  moment,  but  when  éric  joined  the  venit  tempestas,  he  didn’t  consider  him  anything  of  the  sort  anymore.  “  well,  certainly  not  my  sister  and  you  live  with  her.  though,  i  suppose  anyone  that  has  to  live  with  my  sister  ends  up  being  on  outs  with  her.  i  certainly  understand,  ”  he  added  a  quick  roll  of  his  eyes  to  portray  how  he  felt  about  ellie,  as  if  it  wasn’t  obvious  enough.  éric  let  a  casual  smile  play  on  his  lips  as  he  listened  to  charity  give  her  own  understanding  of  him,  and  she  wasn’t  all  that  wrong.  “  a  friend  ?  i  guess  i’m  sitting  with  a  friend.  if  that’s  all  this  is.  

Charity had wanted to add to that, find some contradiction or reasoning as why he apparently had no friends or people he preferred to be around. It almost came out as the simplest of phrase of ‘why not?’ But instead her words got a little caught with warmed cheeks, as if she was some pre-teen without any sense of how to conduct herself. But that had never been her; or maybe it was some other level of curiosity that let her lean in again, weight shifting for elbow to rest on her knees. “It is much better to choose your friends when you can, then to be stuck in a circle of infighting.” Which no doubt, they had descended to amongst each other not that long ago. At least things were calm now at the end of the year. “I think you are asking me to imply something more.” At least when she was on her guard her wit was strong, not the blushing moment she experienced moments before. Her eyebrow raised in response to his inquisition which she fully intended to answer with a question. “And in that case, are you able to be more specific?”

“ you are the absolute best ! ” darcy exclaims, taking the treat from charity and feeling accomplished that her sweet lacking tantrum just moments earlier seems to have done the trick in getting her exactly what she had been after. “ are you sure you don’t want some ? it’s only fair, since you practically tackled a seventh year for it. ” she laughs. “ thank you, i’m forever indebted to you. i owe you one, seriously. ”

“No, I think my blood is pumping enough from nearly riding another seven-something hours all the way back up. Didn’t know it ran again right after we all got off...imagine.” Charity nearly laughed. It was a fun little adventure. She was never much of an athlete, but making a jump from the platform was quite exciting. “Pay me back in learning to become more decisive. Or you’ll be fighting the trolley witch next.”
