“Declan get your head out of your ass. Your problems are literally archaic and my boyfriend in every life keeps choosing you. You. The only reason he broke up with you in the first place was because you weren’t a strong enough person to chose him. I’m angry because it took me going to him to see me - it’s fucked he always sees you. Virginal or not. Marcus doesn’t see you as meat. He never as. That’s the problem.””he shouted and then stormed off.

Marcus had never seen a place like this. His eyes widened as he took in the scene. It was…hard to grasp at first. The music was loud, the room was packed with people, and lights were flashing in every direction. But it looked like fun and had they not been locked in a memory, Marcus would have pulled his boyfriend to the dance floor for a good time. But he was supposed to be learning something here. “So is this what you guys did? Just get drunk? I still don’t understand how I factor into this whole thing.”

“Oh I’m not drunk.”Charlie chuckled, as he pulled his boyfriend through the memory, pulling them toward Quinn and Charlie as they danced and laughed, the lights flashing against them. “We’re both high.”he gestured to the bead of sweat forming on their brows that seemed too sudden for how fresh they’d been in there. Charlie then began to look round, and guiding Marcus closer to his memory self, and settling Marcus right beside his memory. “Right, about, now.”he whispered in Marcus’s ear

“Marcus.”the slurred voice supplied. They followed Charlie’s previous self as they got closer to the stranger. It was interesting because Charlie knew that the man wasn’t Marcus now, but the memory was supplying such an identical image.

“You can’t seriously be jealous.” Declan regretted it as soon as he said it, but it was too late now. “Nolans… No. You said it yourself, I was a virgin. Everybody wants to prey on the virgin. And Marcus was… he liked fucking with people, and I was easy to fuck with. That’s what it was about, and you know it.”

Charle’s eyes narrowed smoothly as Declan opened his mouth again, and watched as the boy blubbered on. “Why is it that he went for you in both worlds before I was even an option - I mean I was dead in the other world.”he scoffed, shaking his head and letting out a huff. “Doesn’t matter. I need to practice - I’ll see you around, yeah?”

It was an odd feeling being in Charlie’s memory like this. It was fascinating and terrifying in the same stroke. His grip on Charlie’s hand tightened the moment he saw the twins enter the memory. He could already tell they were in muggle territory yet was still surprised they didn’t have their wands with them just incase. “Where are you guys going?” He asked softly, despite the fact that he was going to find out soon anyways. 

“We’re going to-”he began before they’re bodies evaporated to being in the club, the lights vibrant, while the music seemed to drone out as if they were under water. “Obscurus”he sighed out as he watched his memory self and Quinn interlock arms as they popped a pill and did a shot, the rest of the boys surrounding them cheering, and the boys giving the club a show. “A squib made the club sometime in the forties, and it’s been a great place for anyone now. It’s a club kid scene.”he gestured, noting how there were people underage and over age. Charlie grimaced how dark his attire was.

“Turns out, having a family that wasn’t totally fucked-up kept me from turning my v-card over to the first guy who looked at me funny,” Declan snapped. “Who would’ve bloody guessed?”

“Yet Marcus still was trying for you.”he uttered evenly, his eyes shifting as they trying to find purchase, and lips frowning. “He still outwardly kept choosing you.”

When Marcus was uncertain, he was quiet. It was probably the only time he was truly silent and still. He didn’t know how to react to all of this information. He wanted to wait until he actually saw the memories before making any decisions on how to feel. So he waited, eerily patient for the first time in his life as Charlie pulled the memory from his mind. “I’m not sure,” He answered softly after a moment. “Both memories exist inside of you now. Maybe they’ll merge into one memory or maybe one will play and then the other.” He slipped his hand into Charlie’s, lacing their fingers. “Only one way to find out. Ready?”

The silence from Marcus was deafening, and even when the other boy did speak it caused hiccups in Charlie’s heart. What was going to happen after? Charlie had never really thought that far, but here they were peering into this thing and everything could change. “Yeah.”he nodded as he leaned into the pensieve. Instantly he felt himself fading into an existence like his body was rushing over water, his eyes scanning for familiarity, and then seeing both Quinn and himself walking through the streets. “We don’t have wands.”he gestured with his interlaced hand to himself and his twin.

“And not some muggle.” He finished Charlie’s sentence and his gaze wondered off to the side as he mulled over his new information. It was a lot of new information and difficult for the little lion to process. “I don’t understand why it had to be me. Before we became us…no one here would ever believe that we were hanging out together over holiday in either world.” Marcus was trying to connect the information together but he couldn’t. Not without seeing the memory. He sighed, brushing past Charlie to open the door to Armand’s office. “Show me.”

It was complicated, it was always complicated, which is why Charlie just wanted to show Marcus. Charlie pushed the door open, leading his boyfriend through the maze that was the Divination room, and paused for a beat to see if Armand was around. Noting that the coast was clear, he wandered toward the thing, his eyes peering down into the swirling abyss. “I-I don’t know which one will come out if they happened...at the same time.”his voice was riddled with insecurity and he was beyond unsure of what would come out. Yet, Charlie brought the tip of his wand to his forehead and began extracting it before dropping it down.

Charlie’s words sparked his memory and Marcus thought about the day Quinn had quit the Quidditch team. He had wondered why but as usual, when it came to the Nolan twins, Charlie had always been Marcus’ main focus. After a couple of weeks, he had completely forgotten that Quinn had ever played to begin with. When did he quit…It was…Oh. It was all connected. Quinn quitting, Charlie’s death. “New Years Eve,” Marcus whispered as the dots connected. “Quinn quit after holiday was over. You died around that time in the other world. Your grandmother mentioned me being with you on New Years Eve when I talked to her. Is that…what you’re going to show me?”

Charlie really hated when Marcus verbally connected all the dots, it made him anxious, exposed even. All this over Charlie’s delirious mind and liquor coating his vision. “We couldn’t just say that it was a muggle. It’d mean a lot of chaotic things for a Pureblood family to bring up being defeated in some capacity by a no-maj. So in both worlds it was lied about. In both worlds it was you who was there and not some...”he shrugged, as heaved out a breath, because his explanation had made him frantic in his motions. Now they were outside Armand’s door and he was more anxious.

Marcus was certain he would have followed Charlie to the end of the earth if he had asked. He followed Charlie, keeping a tight hold on his hand as they walked side by side. Marcus was nervous. He wasn’t sure what Charlie was going to show him and he wasn’t sure if he was going to like it with the way his boyfriend was acting. “It can’t really be that bad,“ He spoke softly as they rounded the corner to where Armand’s office was. “Right, Char?”

Charlie’s eyes cast back at Marcus, and the sheer trust boring from Marcus gutted Charlie. He hadn’t quite seen such a bashful, curious, anxious, doe-eyed expression from Marcus, and Charlie didn’t want to squander it with the truth. “You’re going to see why my brother doesn’t play Quidditch in our world and why I died in the other world.”he whispered, slowing them down as the ascended the stair case. “You’re going to see why you’re a lot more tied to me than you... are?”he muttered in a question.

Interest sparked in Marcus’ eyes and he eagerly nodded in agreement. “What is it?” But he heard Charlie’s sigh and saw the shrug of his shoulders. Marcus’ brows furrowed into concern and he frowned. “Hey,” He said softly, reaching out and taking Charlie’s hand in his own and giving it a soft squeeze. “You don’t have to show me if you’re not ready.”

“I don’t know if either versions of me will feel ready.”he murmured, his lips curling down, as he used their interlocked hands to guide Marcus. “C’mon - I’ve only extracted a memory from the other world, so I’m not even sure if it’ll work well. But we can use Armand’s pensieve.”

The biggest thing was he wasn’t sure if Marcus was ready.

“I didn’t like that you were dead.” Even when he was Marcus Slytherin, his feelings towards Charlie had been similar to the ones he had now. He had just been better at hiding them in the other world. But he could remember how it felt to see Charlie as a ghost. How much Marcus Slytherin had yearned to reach out and touch him but he knew he couldn’t. “I didn’t like that you thought…that Quinn thought I had something to do with it. I wouldn’t, in any world, do anything to hurt you, Charlie.”

“I didn’t either.”he chuckled, gulping his bemusement down and furrowing his brows. It was time, it time to show Marcus how infatuated Charlie had been with him, and it was time to settle this lingering secret he had had. “I need to show you something.”he began slowly, letting out a deflated sigh, and shrugging. “From both worlds I guess.”he murmured.

Maybe this was what Charlie’s grandmother meant when she told Marcus he was a bad influence on her grandson. He didn’t care because Charlie wasn’t trying to stop him but was actually going to help. It made Marcus’ heart flutter. He stepped forward, grabbing a hold of Charlie’s wrist and pulled his boyfriend closer. Marcus placed a gentle kiss to the corner of Charlie’s mouth and smiled against his skin. “Deal.”

The kiss on his lips startled him, because his mind flipped back to being a ghost. “But about the other...world we lived in. Are we going to talk about that?”he murmured gently. He remembered, vividly too, that Marcus was the target of Charlie’s vengeance. The feeling was heavy, and he figured he should also talk to Marcus about the past New Years.

“Quite a lot I suspect…,” Alec mumbled, glancing over to Charlie. “You were dead. My father was dead. Quite a bit of death actually,”

“I imagine you liked having both of us dead then.”he echoed back in the same tone, his feelings a touch hurt by what he was receiving from the blonde, and casting his gaze away.

“He’s not alive,” Marcus muttered and guiltily looked away. His teeth found his bottom lip and he pondered over whether or not he should tell his boyfriend his plan. In the end, the need for Charlie’s trust and support won out over his fear of Charlie trying to stop him. “But I’m going to bring him back.”

“Well.”he began pausing, nodding slowly, and then stopping to tap his lips with his finger. “If we can convince my gran to not be a twat then we can resurrect your dead father whom I remember being terrified.”

“Sanctus Slytherin is my father. But it doesn’t matter to her. I already tried. Somehow she already knew about it and didn’t care. She doesn’t think I have it in me to be a pureblood worthy enough of you.” He brought his hand up to his forehead and rubbing it slowly. “What if we invited her back to Hogwarts? You can teach me how to win her over and maybe we can change her mind.”

The blip in coming back and distinguishing what was real and wasn’t was already very intense for Charlie - he knew what it was like to be a ghost - but now his boyfriend was low and behold the true heir of Slytherin house. It was heavy. Charlie’s gaze fell as the realization sunk in. “So he’s alive then?”he asked, glazing over Marcus’s topic of his grandmother.
