“Well, you can’t say that wasn’t... interesting,”
charles-nolans:
“I can’t help but be curious as to what was what and what was different.”
“Quite a lot I suspect...,” Alec mumbled, glancing over to Charlie. “You were dead. My father was dead. Quite a bit of death actually,”
charles-nolans:
He probably didn’t need to shy away, but Charlie did. The boy moved so the blonde couldn’t touch him and shrugged. “I don’t know.”
“You don’t know? Aren’t ghosts supposed to... you know, know that?” he asked, furrowing his brow as he looked at Charlie, and watched him pull away.
charles-nolans:
He turned back briskly at the mention of his last name. At first he didn’t say anything, he was too afraid, this was so different. “H-hi.”
“What are you... doing here?” he asked, frowning as he looked at him. He took another step forward, reaching out. “As a ghost,”
declan-bouchard:
“Again?” Declan couldn’t help complaining a little as he slung his broom over his shoulder. His arms ached from the force he’d been putting behind the swings of his beater’s bat. He needed to get in better shape, or maybe they were just practicing more than usual lately. “Alec, is that really necessary? We’ve practiced every day for, like, two weeks straight.”
Alec glanced over at Declan and just nodded. “Yes again,” he said patiently, but smiled softly. He’d been particularly hard on Declan this training. He thought the kid needed to bulk up if he wanted to stay first string beater. “Of course it’s necessary. You guys want to win the cup don’t you?” he asked, crossing his arms and looking at Declan, and then glancing to the rest of the team. “So be ready tomorrow,”
charles-nolans:
Alec Carrington walked right through him, so caught up in his thoughts, and the boy walked right through him. It left Charlie gaping and his eyes furrowed as he turned and watched the boy.
The minute he passed through Charlie, who he had not noticed, Alec shivered as if he had just been drenched in a bucket of water. Ghosts didn’t usually come out to the Quidditch Pitch. Spinning around, his eyes went wide. “Nolans, is that you?”
littlelioncov:
Marcus was about to offer up his services to help Alec get the bloody stick out of his arse but thought better of it. He didn’t want to risk pushing Alec far enough that he would take Marcus out of the lineup for the next game. Instead, he sighed and rolled his eyes. “We’ll see about that now won’t we?”
Alec just shook his head. Marcus was always so difficult for some reason. “Tell you what. You don’t show up tomorrow at nine and you’re not starting next game,” he crossed his arms and walked past Marcus, the trunk trailing behind him.
Resting his chin on the top of his broom, Marcus rolled his eyes at Alec’s instructions. Another practice? It was a given that they were going to win the Quidditch Cup this year. Their team was unstoppable and it showed in their practices. Why did they have to meet again? At this rate, Marcus was scared that Alec would run them all into the ground. And, well, Marcus never missed an opportunity to challenge someone. “Make it ten o’clock and you’ve got yourself a date, Carrington.”
Alec pulled out his wand, magicking the trunk with the Quidditch balls to hover behind him as he started to walk to the lockers. He glanced at Marcus and rolled his eyes. “Wrong Coventry,” he said simply. “Nine tomorrow sharp. That’s when the pitch is booked for so that’s when it’s happening,”
“Right, so, Quidditch practice again tomorrow at nine am sharp,” Alec called out to the team as they headed off into the locker room. This year was looking far better than last year. They had a good shot at winning the cup, especially now with Gryffindor’s team not doing great.Â
It was the first time in a long time the twins were this close, almost hugging each other. But this kind of event didn’t happen so often either. Aurelia felt safe with his arm around her, even if it was awkward. She kept her fingers firmly wrapped around her wand as she leaned against him. She pointed it out, and nodded at his words. “Okay, I will.” She whispered, watching out for any boggart that could approach them. “Are you okay?”
Alec looked down at his sister and nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine,” he said with a small nod, trying to look supportive and was calm. “Let’s get back to the castle,” he nodded, holding his wand and making his way back towards the castle.Â
“I was…” His words trailed off and Marcus stubbornly stood there. Alec was right and that infuriated him. He had butted into Alec’s business and he had made the situation worse. Dammit. He fought the urge to pout and instead, kept the glare on his face. “Do you though? Because what have you done except live in your father’s shadow?  That doesn’t seem very deserving to me. Everything was handed to you. You didn’t urge anything,” He snapped back with his lips twisted up into a smirk. “I don’t have a problem with you.” As long as you stay away from Charlie. “But you might want to rethink having one with me, Carrington. Because when it comes down to it you don’t really know who I am or what I’m capable of.”
Alec had a triumphant look on his face when he saw Marcus try to work through what had happened, because he knew he was right. So he was a bit surprised at the outburst he did end up receiving, but he didn’t let the look drop from his face. So he let him rant about how he didn’t deserve what he got. “And once again you’re wrong. Because my father didn’t have a hand in my marks, or what courses I took, or that I became Headboy,” he said simply. “So I don’t see how you can even begin to say that. Particularly since you haven’t had to earn anything yourself,” he continued, about to turn away. “Of course you don’t Coventry,” he said with a shrug, waving his hand as if dismissing him and fully turning away towards another boggart.
“Well fortunately for everyone my parent’s aren’t here this weekend, just my grandmother.”he supplied evenly, his head tilting, and then rolling his eyes. “Lord knows though it’d be hilarious to hear from Quinn about how attractive your dad is.” Because it would happen like that. He’d probably be sandwiched between Quinn and Aurelia and his grandmother between the Carrington Couple while Alec would most likely be at his father’s side.
“Ah,” he said softly with a small shrug. He should have suspected as much, why send everyone when the Matriarch was there? Alec wrinkled his nose at the thought of Quinn saying that. It was certainly not what should happen at a dinner like that. “Yes... perhaps that’s not the best idea,” he mumbled softly, scratching softly at the back of his neck. “Well, I’m sure I’ll see you and your grandmother later this weekend at least. Perhaps then we can figure out exactly what she wants from this... relationship,”
Charlie found himself staring at the sky as he’d been explaining himself, but then Alec’s gentle tone startled him. The boy was never gentle, and then he could feel the other boy closer to him. “Annette is a powerful woman.”he agreed, his eyes squinting at the smirk, suddenly feeling like he didn’t know all the rules to the game. “I’ll begrudgingly take… the mentor…ship.”he said slowly, his mind trying viciously to figure out what had shifted with Alec.
Alec took note that Charlie wasn’t looking at him, but chuckled anyway. He had no clue what this was going to entail, but it would certainly be interesting. “Well, I suppose this will be interesting to find out what it actually means doesn’t it?” Alec said frankly. Alec honestly had no clue where he would be going with this. He assumed it meant Charlie would be following him around more. “Perhaps our families should get dinner tonight,”
Charlie licked his lips, and let out a toneless chuckle. “It’s more complicated than that.”he found his voice supplying as he crossed his arms. “Things have been a slow burn, I guess? Then things have been extreme this year - it’s so new, and now here we are.”he continued trying to decipher how everyone got to this point. It was parent’s week and already things were so insane. “Marcus and I are dating, but, it’s a slow burn like everything else we do.”
Alec frowned. He didn’t know what that meant. That they were taking things slow? Not that it mattered to him really. It would be good to please Annette though, in some way. “Right,” he said softly, standing back up straight. He moved a bit closer to Charlie, his voice growing softer as he spoke. “Well, maybe I’ll take up your Aunt’s off and... mentor you,” he said with a small smirk. “Wouldn’t want to disappoint her,”
Charlie watched as the woman leave, seeing her body retreat into the distance, all the while listening to Alec. Turning to the blonde, he looked him up and down, and shrugged. “I guess you really don’t know me Carrington.”
Alec looked over Charlie, crossing his arms and leaning against the wall. “Don’t tell me your constant prodding and frustration at Marcus was all just a childish ruse to hide a crush?”
Annette leaned forward with her hand on her chest, and then let out a loud cracked chuckle. “Oh darling, be whatever you will to eachother, I’d just like you to mentor the boy.”he laughed as she brought her hand to her nose, and then waved them off. “Amazing, look I’m going to find Quinn and then we can all meet together.”
“You’re - oh, yeah, oh okay.” Charlie was startled and then suddenly Annette was gone leaving him alone with Alec Carrington.
Mentor, whatever that meant. Annette was just as good, if not better, with words than his father was. It was infuriating. Without letting that show, Alec smiled and nodded. “A mentor, of course,” he said with a small smile. “It was a pleasure, as always,”
“I suppose your grandmother doesn’t realize I’m not into men,” he said with a small smirk at Charlie once Annette left. “Besides, I don’t think my father would be particularly happy about that anyway,” he mumbled. Perhaps it was a reason to do it? Even if he wasn’t into it. “Are you actually dating Coventry though? I thought you hated each other,”
Marcus crossed his arms over his chest and his hip stuck out. “Oh I don’t know!” He exclaimed with a roll of his eyes. “Because you seemed a little too eager to take out my boggart that looked exactly like me. I also didn’t ask for your help and you butted your way into my business anyways.” He huffed lightly. His real issues with Alec weren’t about him defeating the boggart. They came from Annette and her obsession with Carrington and how bloody great he was. “You know, you’re not that special. I don’t know how everyone kisses your arse as if you put the sun in the sky.”
Alec placed a hand on his brow, closing his eyes slightly in frustration. Perhaps there were other reasons he didn’t like Marcus Coventry as well. “I seem to remember you butting into my business in taking that boggart out. And making the situation worse I might add,” he said simply, gesturing over to where the boggart had been. Alec chuckled again, glancing down at Marcus and smirking. “Because, maybe I actually deserve that praise? It seems like you are the one that has a problem with me Coventry. Not the other way around,”
