Her eyes were practically sparkling. “That’s gonna be awesome! I should do something cool with my car’s body…” she scratched her chin in thought. Of course, she’d have to get everything down first but how hard could it be? She’d totally understand it after a few classes she was sure.

"I wonder if we’ll get to do something similar to monster cars," she wondered aloud. Monster Zombie Smashing car. That would be beyond awesome.

"You mean a demolition derby?" Charles' grin would have fit on a super villain at that point, visions of cars being crushed and metal flying everywhere dancing through his brain.

"I should do something like that with the robotics club," he mused. "Wouldn't that be the coolest? Everybody building robots and beating the crap out of each other?!"

“Indeed,” she replied, edging inaudibility. “I know of many wealthy families, unfortunately they do not have the pleasure of meeting me. Ah— Albert and Charles… strange combination of names for twins if you ask me.”

Remaining in her position, she giggled harmoniously towards his comments of his younger brother. “Do you happen to have a picture of him? I would have to be the judge of looks.” She batted her eyelashes, amused with the conversation.

She believed him for the most part. He was a handsome man, yet, most sons of noblemen are. There were some middle class attractive in her eyes, but… not much.

He chuckled. "Well, you do not want the two to be too similar, lest you call one by the other's name. It would have been awful had we been, say, Cody and Corey or something like that."

Charles grimaced, making a face like he had swallowed a lemon. "And can you not take my word for it? Surely you can believe that I'm an adequate judge of aesthetic and beauty?" The redhead gave her a wink with a wolfish grin. Truth was, whatever pictures he had saved on his phone were from when the two of them were young. Back then, he had been the ugly one. He and his brother despised one another, and elected to not speak or be in close contact for the sake of peace.

Chelsea nodded. Truthfully, she hadn’t thought if it might be wasteful or not, she had just been thinking of cool ways to kill zombies.

"So are you actually building a car like this? Like, legit physically building it?" She eyed him. Oh wait, did she even have his name?? "Oh, I’m Chelsea by the way. You can call me Chels if you like." She held out her hand to shake his.

"Hi, I'm Charles," he shook her hand and grinned. "Pleasure to meet you. And yes, if I can. Though this is supposed to be engine and other such work in class. I'm going to see if I can get over to the metal shop and sculpt some of the car's body. I obviously can't build it from scratch, but I can do a ton of modifications to my assignment car.!"

"I didn’t mean that you didn’t have any problems, broseph," Denny said, leaning back. His eyebrows knit. "I was just sayin’ that it sounded impressive. I’d miss it, ‘cause maybe—…Never mind."

He waved his hand passively. He wanted to change the subject, since it was pretty touchy, but… “Well, yeah, family’s pretty weird, isn’t it? The only person I’d really put my life on the line for is my dad. So, I might get ya’, just a little.”

"Broseph?" He rolled the word around in his mouth, unfamiliar with it. "Huh. That one's new. And sorry. I just... get snappy about my family. They may be blood, but a lot of them are trash."

Sensing the need for a subject change, and maybe an opening for recruitment, the redhead asked, "So are you in any clubs? I'm the president of one if you want to join."

His comment made him chuckle. “Oh, I’m surprised too. Why should I look at you peasants when I can enjoy my own reflection?” Allen didn’t honestly mean this (ok, maybe a little bit) but he mostly said it because he found this guy getting riled up to be quite entertaining. If he was going to be following him around, might as well press his buttons.

"Why, me? An ass? Obviously you can’t see how generous I’m being. I’m tolerating your presence, aren’t I?"

"So you know the definition of narcissism. Congratulations." Charles raised his hands and made quick spirit-fingers in mock cheer. "And I'll have you know that I actually have a title, so if anyone around here is a peasant, that would be you."

Oozing sarcasm, he bowed at the waist. "And far be it that I rely upon your most gracious charity. By the way, the Sears tag on that shirt of yours is showing."

“I'm not surprised,” she yawned lightly, “My father is one of the wealthiest noblemen in the south of France.” When the subject of wealthy circles arose in conversation, her curiosity peaked of who he actually is.

Patting a single elegant curl behind her bony shoulders, Bianca paid close attention to when he mentioned his father. Repeating the name more inside of her head, she finally remembered hearing of him. “Ah, so you are his son? What a small world we live in, Charles.”

"Isn't it, though?" he said, smiling charmingly. "That we have known of one-another but not actually had the pleasure of meeting. And I am one of his sons, yes. I have a younger fraternal twin. Albert is his name."

Leaning in, he whispered conspiratorially, "Though I am by far the better looking of us too. My poor brother got the unfortunate half of the genetics."

He wasn't going to tell her that it had been the other way around until he was 17. Albert was a cute kid, but grew up to look like Alfred Hitchcock.

Bianca observed closely as his flirtatious smirk transitioned into a genuine smile. She lifted her chin from her palm, now somewhat interested in this upperclassman boy she had never stumbled upon before. There was no doubt he was of French descent.

His native tongue made her warm and fuzzy inside, thinking of home. She replicated his voice, feeling her words string together in a beautiful French accent, “It’s a pleasure to meet you Charles. My name is Bianca. Bianca de Sainte-Coquille. My family is from all over France, but I grew up in Aquitaine.”

"Sainte-Coquille? I've heard of your family. It's actually surprising, with how narrow the circles of the wealthy run, that we've not met before."

Tilting his head a little to the side, he brushed a lock of bright red hair away from his face. "You might have heard of my father, though. Le Comte Philip Artois?"

If there was one way he knew to impress rich girls, it was by mentioning that he had a title.

Bianca lazily raised an eyebrow, curious about his devious smirk. Her amethyst eyes rolled a full revolution, not because of him, but by her overwhelming boredom of the subject.

“Oh?” She asked, anticipating him to reply with something serious and on topic rather than true honesty. Maybe he isn’t as bad after all. Peaked with an empty interest, she continued to listen to him rant about the other students in his class. How entertaining.

“Shakespeare is so overrated, just like most of the other glorified authors we have to read about.” When he mentioned the French authors, she wondered his originality and whereabouts of birth. “On this subject, I will… have to agree with you. I would also appreciate some Madame de La Fayette or Claudine Guérin de Tencin. Untranslated and un-butchered, of course. ♫”

Charles was a little surprised that she agreed with him, and his smirk spread into an actual smile. Her accent was surprisingly perfect when she pronounced the names of those authors, so he couldn't help but think...

Switching to his native tongue, he introduced himself. "My name is Charles, by the way. Charles Artois. I'm from Auvergne. And yourself?"

It is very nice to meet you, Mr. Artois. You may call me Mr. Aldrich or, once you’re all set up for Mathletes, Coach Aldrich will do. *Laughs lightly, though his eyes lighting up upon hearing the student’s strengths* Why, that’s wonderful. If you do well, I may consider asking you to help some of my students with their classwork if your schedule allows.

Oh, thank you, sir. And um... *scratches at his neck nervously* I'm already the president of my own club, and I'm not sure if I'll have enough time to add tutoring to my schedule. I can try, but there won't be any guarantees.

"Only when I don’t feel like expending energy on someone so meaningless."

Allen noticed he was following him and rolled his eyes. “Look, I can understand you’re enamored with me. It happens to everyone. but I don’t need a groupie. So go away.” Allen was so done talking to him. He had better things to do.

"Enamored? Ha! I only wish I had a fraction of your narcissism. I'm surprised you can actually function in between sessions of admiring yourself in the mirror. "

Charles crossed his arms and hissed. "Look, I was trying to be nice and out of nowhere, you decided to be an ass to me. If you think that's the proper response to friendly behavior, I think you might need a therapist."

She eagerly followed him out, not concerned about her next period since it was just lunch.

"Hm, that’s a tough one. I mean, I don’t think it would hurt, but supplying ammo to a gun takes more work and you also need someone who can shoot. If they can’t, it could get ugly pretty quick." A stray bullet ricocheting around the car would be hell. "But having some on hand, for when you exit the car, would be a good idea." Another thought occurred to her and she continued talking. "And I wouldn’t put anything on top of the car, gun-wise. The zombies could crawl up there and would probably do something. They may seem stupid but I wouldn’t trust them with anything." Maybe another weapon for the top of the car would be better. 

"Oh you know, you were talking about converting the gas into a flamethrower that shot out the back and front. Maybe you could get other things to shoot out as well, like oil to slow them down, and then turn on the flamethrower to light it up." She laughed.

"So... weapon storage within the vehicle to be used upon exit? That could work. And obviously mounting something on the top would be a horrible idea. In all honesty, I'd be more worried about the living than the un-dead at that point. People can be bad news."

Pulling a piece of gum from the pack he kept in his pocket, he popped it into his mouth and started chewing furiously.

"I don't want to add too much to it. Using up oil like that in an apocalyptic setting is terribly wasteful. I can get away with the gas because it's generated and refined in a way that nearly anyone can replicate."

Maybe he was taking this a little too seriously, but the crazy engineer in him just couldn't let it go.

"… Thanks,” Bianca muttered under her breath, sitting neatly into the desk. Noticing the gap in between them, she scooted the seat closer to him. Admittedly, she could stare at his face for a moment or two. Handsome, unlike most of the other boys here in her opinion. Oh well— attractive boys tended to be—.

Prior to finishing the thought, the teachers walked around and place one sheet on one of the paired desks. She leaned forward to read it, following the instructions as told. “According to this, you’re supposed to tell me about what AP Poetry is like.” With that, she peered into his silver eyes, bored as can be with this ‘class field trip’ idea.

She was staring at him. Oh god. Was he sporting a zit? His mother paid a fortune for that stuff from the dermatologist, so it was doubtful it had failed him now. At least, he hoped so.

Charles smirked a little bit, glad to note that she was just as unamused by this whole venture as he. Maybe this would be tolerable.

"To tell you the truth, it's terribly dull," he hissed. "These idiots act like English is the only language with poetry and that the sun shines out of Shakespeare's ass. At this point, if someone gave me untranslated and un-butchered Voltaire or Moliere, I would weep."

A smile cracked on Allen’s face, but it wasn’t a nice smile.

"Since my face is perfect, that won’t be an issue. Also, how can I drown if my nose is in the air? It’ll be above water."

Allen started to head for the door. He didn’t want to be late for French over an idiot.

"Why don’t you run along? You’re depriving a village somewhere of an idiot."

He almost wanted to laugh. This kid just didn't get it.

"I meant that it's so damned upturned that rain will fall straight down it. Keeping it above water isn't the issue at all."

Charles followed, unable to let this go. He had taken crap like this too many times over the years, especially before he finished the hell years of puberty. "Oh, yeah?" he hissed. "That's so original. Do you borrow all of your cleverness from bumper stickers?"

Boring. He knew all of this. What was the point of this class? What was the point of this school? He had heard St. Nathan’s was renowned for its education. Allen was less than impressed. Perhaps college would prove a more interesting challenge.

As the bell rang, Allen began to slowly put his items away, not wanting to be caught in the crowd of students fleeing from the classroom to reach their next. He would reach his next class when he reached it and his teacher would have to deal. Besides, if any of these imbeciles messed up his clothes or hair he’d be forced to murder someone.

“Hey, nice hair.”

Ice blue eyes lifted to meet the owner of the voice. A red haired boy. He couldn’t tell if he was joking or serious, but it didn’t matter so Allen took his usual route.

"Yes, yours is quite nice too. Tell me, how did you get it to look like a hairball from a mountain lion?"

He stood and slung his backpack over his shoulder, his face impassive.

Charles lifted a single eyebrow and frowned. He tries to pay someone a compliment and bond over their shared redheadedness, and this is how he's repaid. With angry, snobby sass.

Well, it was a good thing he grew up with a bunch of sassy, angry snobs.

"Oh, you know. The natural way. I go out into the mountains and ask my mountain lion adopted mother to do it for me, of course," he said with a smirk.

"Now you tell me, hasn't anyone ever told you that if you keep making that face, it's sure to get stuck that way? If you lift that snobby nose of yours much higher, you'll drown in the next rainstorm."

Chelsea soaked in everything while nodding along with his ideas. Honestly, blades and such on the car had been her second thought.

"That would be awesome! Maybe a spiked bumper or something similar so you can run them over too. And maybe if you replaced the windows with something more durable, some sort of netting. You don’t want them breaking the glass."

She had stepped from his desk at this point and was using her hands to illustrate what she meant, though she more looked like a mad woman waving her arms around.

"Hey, class is over you two," their teacher called to them.

"Not just spiked!" he exclaimed, "But with a cow-catcher or something on the front of it, so you could just plow through them and toss them off on the side!"

Charles waved his hand at the glass suggestion. "Oh, I already thought of that. But I don't know where a civilian could get a hold of anything that's bullet-proof."

He looked up at the teacher and flushed. "Oh! Oh, yes. We'll be going now."

Striding out of the classroom, he motioned for the girl to come with him. "Walk with me. Now, do you think that any sort of weaponry you can fire from inside of the car would be a good idea?"

Charles almost wanted to chuckle as he noticed another kid leaving his Governmental studies class. To think, he had honestly been worried that he would be the only ginger in school. Of course, his hair was darker, and he wasn't entirely sure this other guy didn't dye it, but it was the principle of the thing.

The bell rang and Charles slipped his supplies into his bag, standing and walking past the other boy's desk. "Hey," he said, a little bit of teasing showing through his tone. "Nice hair."

Wait, zombie-proof car?

"Are you making a zombie-proof car?" Her eyebrows shot up. "Cause I would be interested. How does that even work/ What repels zombies?" Well she supposed there was sunlight. "Solar powered sun lights coming off the car?"

"Well, I'm trying to."

Charles grinned, glad that someone else was excited about the prospect. "And not solar powered. That would take up too much space and be too delicate to survive a zombie apocalypse. I'm going to convert the engine to run on a biofuel, which could honestly be made like moonshine. Then I'm going to add zombie-proof bodywork, like blades on the wheels and grates over the windows. Maybe a kill-switch that borrows some of the fuel to make a flamethrower out the front or back!"

By this point, he was getting terribly excited, running a hand through his hair and making it fluff up like he was a mad scientist.
