Jon mouth opened, closed, and a furious blush filled his cheeks as he realized what she meant. Meghan giggled in Charlie’s lap. “Daddy’s looks funny,” she giggled, causing Jon to give a deep, happy belly laugh. “Don’t worry, I have all sorts of experience.” He gave her a gentle smile. “As you can probably tell.”

She blushed and bit her lip. She got up and looked at him softly. “Would you like to go in there and dance with me?” She asked softly. “It wouldn’t be a ball without dancing with my future mate.”

Meghan smiled happily. She was still a bit confused, but everyone seemed alright so she stopped worrying and started fiddling with her dress.

“And I hope that yours accepts mine,” Jon replied with a gentle smile. “I have a good feeling about mine, seeing you with Meghan. I think you’ll be a great mother.”

Charlie looked at Meghan with a smile. “I’m sure I could never replace her mother, but I will do my best to make her happy.” She said quietly and ran her fingers through the girls hair. She wasn’t going to ask what happened, not yet it would be inappropriate and she was sure he’d tell her on his own time. “And my best to make you happy too.” She said shyly. “I’m not experienced, you’d be my first with everything.”

Jon smiled gently and held out his hand to gently touch hers. “It’s okay. I understand. I’ve been nervous for a while as well.” As he touched her, she could feel his fingers tremble slightly. He took the letter back and folded it up. 

Meghan looked up at Charlie, not sure about what was going on but able to tell it was important. She reached up and touched Charlie’s cheek. “Are you okay?” she asked gently. “Daddy can give you a hug. It stop me from crying.”

She looked at Charlie and gently took her hand that she placed on her cheek. “I’m alright little one.” She whispered. “I’m just, nervous is all.” She looked back up at him and bit her lip. “I hope your wolf accepts mine.” She said quietly.

“Thank you,” Meghan chirped, beaming. She shuffled around until she was sitting in Charlie’s lap and made herself comfortable there.

“Actually,” Jon cleared his throat and scratched his neck before pulling an envelope “I may know something about that.” He pulled out a letter, the official Council logo clear on the top. Her name was beside his in bold letters. “Let me reintroduce myself. My name is Jon VanderNoorde. I’m your arranged mate.”

Her eyes widened and her mouth parted in shock. “W-What?” She breathed out. She looked at the letter and her heart started to pound. “It’s you...” She whispered. “I’m so sorry, I -- I should have known.” She bit her lip and looked down in embarrassment. “I was too scared to look at the envelope so I had my alpha open it for me. He was going to introduce me to you.”

“Why?” The littler girl cocked her head as she looked up, giving the impression of a confused puppy. “You’re really pretty!” Meghan patted the older woman’s hand reassuringly.

“I agree,” Jon said the a gentle smile. He knelt so he could meet her eyes again. “And you seem good with children. I can see you being an excellent mother. That would put you at the top of my list.” 

She blushed and giggled at the little girl. “So are you little wolf.” She cooed. Her eyes locked with his as he said he agreed with his daughter. Her eyes widened at his words and her blush deepened. “Oh.. “ She whispered. “Well um, he’s part of your pack actually. Though I hadn’t been told who he was.”

Jon gave a wry smile as Meghan giggled. “Yea,” she huffed in four year old indignation.

Jon chuckled at that. “It’s not really my scene. We only just came back, which means there are too many people to reintroduce myself to.” He sighed and stretched. “I prefer it out here. The gardens are beautiful.” *Like you* he wanted to say, but held his tongue. “And everyone with good conversation seems to be here with me.”

Her cheeks flushed a bit and she looked down shyly. “I’m supposed to be in there, meeting my future mate.” She said quietly. “To be honest I’m terrified. I’ve never been around anyone but my pack.” She looked down at her hands. “And I’m not the most interesting omega in there. I feel like I’ll just disappoint whomever they paired me with.”

Jon and Meghan followed Charlie along out of the party. Soon they had found a bench to sit at where it was quieter. When Charlie sat down, Meghan sat beside her, still holding her hand. Jon stood in front of them both, relaxed.

“My name is Jon and this is Meghan. We’re from the Dark Raven Pack.” Meghan looked up at Charlie and smile. 

“Me and Daddy just moved here,” the girl interjected. She was becoming more vibrant as she settled down. “He’s important.” 

Jon chuckled and shook his head. “She’s four, and has her own view of the world.”

Charlie tensed when he mentioned that he was from the Dark Raven pack. She was told she was going to meat her potential mate tonight who was from that pack. She didn’t know his name or what he looked like since it was just recently arranged. “Oh.” She whispered quietly. 

She looked to Meghan and smiled. “It’s nice to meet you little one.” She whispered and then looked up to her father shyly. “Important huh?” She asked quietly. “Shouldn’t you be there with all the other important people inside?”

Jon smiled as Meghan turned her big green eyes up to Charlie. She blinked as the woman spoke, nodded, blinked some more, and then nodded some more. She turned to Jon and tugged on his sleeve.

“I hope you don’t mind me joining you for a bit,” he said gently. “I want to make sure she gets settled before I get back to business.” The small girl offered her hand to Charlie for her to lead them.

Charlie couldn’t help but melt as she watched the little girl, she reminded her of what she was like as a child. Still now, she was a very shy woman. She gently took the girls hand and her eyes locked with the male. “No, it’s absolutely fine.” She looked down at the girl. “I’m not one for big parties either.” She said and gave her a soft smile. 

She walked out with the girl and her father to the garden and found a bench where they could sit. It was much quieter out there. She looked over to the girls father. “I’m Charlie.” She said quietly. “I’m from the Whisper Forest pack.” She said softly.

Jon had a distaste for this kind of event, all the glitz and glamour hiding the twisted and dark. Still, if he was to move up in the world of Lycan’s Bane, he needed to make himself a known presence here. But there was one person more important than the rest.

He checked the picture again as his daughter clutched the hem of his coat. She had decided to dress in a Belle-themed dress and looked like a tiny princess. Her green eyes were wide and darting around as her thumb as stuck her four year old mouth. Jon looked around again before he spotted the woman who might be his target. He moved with a purpose, trailing his daughter behind him.

“Excuse me,” he said with a gentle smile. “My daughter has become a bit anxious from all the noise. Would you be able to help me for a moment?”

Charlie hated these things, or any social even that forced her to socialize. She just wanted to stay with her pack. Or be in her bed with books. She was leaning against the bar with a glass of champagne in her hand when the male approached her. Her brow raised at the male but her eyes softened when she saw the child. She knelt down in her blood red gown and smiled. “Why don’t you look like a princess?” She cooed softly. 

“Are all the big noises scaring you?” She asked softly. The little girl nodded shyly. She looked up to the male shyly and then back to the little girl. “How about we all go to the big garden outside, where it’s nice and quiet okay? Would you and your father be okay with that?”

“I’ll drink to that,” Caspar replied with a deep chuckle and sipped solemnly at his champagne. If there were anything he was craving more than his sheets and maybe even someone to cuddle for the night, it was a cigarette. It was almost as if his tongue and teeth ached for one, but he sedated the feeling with another drink. “I can assure you that you and I are not the only two who thinks this idea is a sham and a waste of time. Look at this.”

He gestured to the crowd with a furrowed brow. Bringing packs together on the brink of a civil war was completely barbaric, but it was not like he could discuss this with his alpha. He was a warrior, a defender. He would heed the call should their be need for his power, but the dark-haired alpha was not inclined to fight a war that may be cause for unnecessary loss. 

He sighed, shaking his head, and turned his focus back to the girl. “You know, I wish I could get drunk to help me get through shit like this.”

Charlie frowned, she agreed. What was the point? Eventually someone was going to try and become the new King and Queen and there would be a war because of it. All these arranged marriages, parties, it wasn’t going to keep the peace. People who wanted power were going to make their move eventually and too many did. 

Charlie hadn’t been chosen for a marriage yet thankfully, but she knew for the sake of her alpha she wouldn’t have a say in the matter once she was. “You and me both, it would make this somewhat tolerable.” She said quietly.

He had one goal and one goal only: don’t be a fucking degenerate. But, that was easier said than done, and while the youngish wolf was old enough to know and execute pristine pack behavior, he still had to test its limits. It itched along his sinews, tugging at the darkest corners of his mind, and he would feel ashamed if he didn’t initiate some sort of rowdy behavior. Gentile parties were definitely not his scene, and he threw back another shot. Thank whatever unholy supernatural being for boiling his blood, making the liquor react like water. Only the mixing scents, from the harshness of alpha and the delectable omega, seemed to have any intoxicating feel on his mind, and he wandered from each foreign pack clusters, introducing himself as if he was a business man bent on providing his business card. A slick smile curved across his face, and when he was done conversing with a small group of female omegas, he approached a lone figure and proceeded to lean against the wall, dark eyes surveying the crowd. “This party blows ass, huh?”

Charlie, like always at social gatherings, wanted to hide. She hated them, she wanted to keep to herself. She could have been snuggled in bed right now reading a book. She leaned against the wall in her red gown with a glass of champagne as her big hazel eyes scanned the crowd watching her pack and others mingle. She sighed as she took a sip of her champagne. She jumped slightly whens he heard the males voice and her eyes locked with his. 

She raised her brow at him and then looked back at the crowd. “Celebrations like this have never been something I enjoyed. I’d rather be at home right now.” She said before taking another sip of her champagne. “I guess it’s comforting to know I’m not the only who isn’t enjoying it.”

benjamin knew the importance of the night ahead, but it didn’t make him hate it any less. he wasn’t comfortable in big social events where he would be expected to communicate with a lot of people that weren’t his pack and eyes would be on him, most likely wondering what he planned to burn later on or if he’d challenge for top spot. he sat outside the ball for the past fifteen minutes alone after watching a bunch of busy bodies make their way out of view, working up the energy to go inside as he leaned against someone’s car with a flask in his hand that he took a much needed sip of and quickly tucked back into the hidden pocket of his suit jacket when he heard the sound of someone else’s footsteps nearby. “i was just makin’ my way in.” he coolly explained, clearing his throat before moving away from the vehicle to give the new company a casual expression. “wanted to make sure the area was clear first.” he said. he thought it was as good of an excuse as any, and made the most sense, given their recent attack.

charlie approached in her red gown, her heart was pounding. she hated these events, it meant she had to be social especially with all these arranged marriages happening. she hadn’t been chosen for one yet, she was thankful. she noticed a male standing alone and stopped. when he spoke to her she gave him a small smile. “i was as well.” she said quietly. “though i’d rather be at home right now instead.” she knew what he was thinking with all that had been going on it would make sense to check everything out. they didn’t need another attack, not tonight. “see you inside then.” the omega said quietly as she walked through the doors.

Charlie’s is a very quiet girl, she’s reserved and keeps to herself around strangers. She’s only very open with her pack. Once she let’s you in you can see that she’s kind, bright and romantic. She’s very loyal to her pack. She would do anything for them, hense why she agreed to marry the alpha of the Imperial Ash pack. She was doing it for her pack, but also because she was lonely. She’s terrified of course, that she’s going to be stuck in a loveless marriage. But she would do what she could.
