“ you’re the one killing your hair so long you spend at sea, sometimes i get to thinking it’s blond like this because of some crystal that comes along with the salt there or anything like that. i dunno think you have to be so hesitant, though. imagine how many tourists wouldn’t LOVE a girl walking naked on the beach !! ”

“ hey, don’t say that! do you think i could REALLY be killing my hair? maybe the mix of the sea crystals AND the rays of the sun are to thank for his blonde mane. naked on the beach?? no way, i hope it’s a different girl cause it will not be me!”

“i guess you’re right. i couldn’t sleep most of the night, and this great idea popped into my head a few hours ago, but now i’m stuck.” the brunette sighed, glancing up at her best friend. “ah, i should’ve known. but you can still get a good surf session in after noon.” kate giggled softly, setting her pencil down. “maybe it would be a good idea to go to the beach, though. would you mind if i joined you?”

“writers block, huh?” she paused to take a sip of the coconut water in her hand. “maybe just let loose, don’t try so hard and it will come naturally to you?” the blonde suggested to her friend with a shrug. “oh i can have a good surf session anytime of the day. i am actually headed back for round two.” she laughed and nodded her head. “of course you can. maybe you’ll find your muse there.”

charlie… didn’t know that? “what?” he repeated after her, catching her by the elbow so she wouldn’t fall but removing his hand quickly. he wasn’t sure if she wanted to be touched, but fuck, to be able to touch her again was so good. “charlie, i… i was there every single day. i’ve been trying to talk to you for months.” he looked around, shooting people dirty looks so they would stop staring at them. it worked, like it always did, and noah was able to face her again. “eventually i stopped going there because i thought that you…” he scratched the back of his head nervously. “i just assumed you’d never want to see me again. i thought that you hated me or something.”

the second that noah’s hand touched her elbow, charlie felt some sort of heat rush through her body and she hated herself for it. she pulled her arm away at the same time that he moved his hand away and she was glad he seemed to feel as awkward as she did. “you really have?” not that it meant she’d forgive noah, or that it would make things better but it sort of felt nice to know he tried - that he wanted to talk to her. “i hate myself for not hating you.” she admitted, pushing her foot against the road and beginning to skate along. “i assumed you didn’t care because you were happy with ... whoever she is.”

                    “I know the feeling. I’m just looking forward to those few days where its considerably warm and empty. I hate it when they come and litter the beach.” He complained, doing his best not to grimace at the thought.

“ those days are far and FEW between, my friend. but if it was up to me, i’d shut down fire island to ANYONE who doesn’t live here. the tourists and weekend vacationers turn our quaint little town into a party place and i am NOT for it. “

hearing a familiar voice, the brunette instantly snapped out of her thoughts to find the blonde in front of her, with her skateboard in hand. kate smiled at her and finally set down her pencil. “i know, i know. i just couldn’t sleep.” she replied, with a small shrug of her shoulder. “i thought i could find some inspiration around here, but nothing seems to ever happen this early.” a small giggle parted her soft pink lips, as she noticed a while ago not too many people were up this early. “what are you doing up?”

“inspiration? in cj’s? not a chance. unless empty ghost town restaurants and day drinkers are what inspire you.” she chuckled, looking out the window at the empty streets. “you have to get outside in the nature. that’s where the inspiration is. if i were you i’d head down to the beach. that’s always a good place to go.” maybe charlie was just biased. “oh i always wake up at dawn so i can make it to the beach by sunrise. gotta get in a good surf session before i start my day. even in this shitty weather.” she shrugged.

what in the world was noah supposed to say to that? he knew that charlie was right, he knew that he had no place to argue. but hell, he had been kept from seeing charlie for months, he wasn’t going to waste his first opportunity. the male followed her out of restaurant, not bothering with the dirty looks people shot him when they saw that, again, “the poor sultan girl was putting up with that blackburn kid again”; people in this town hated their relationship, they couldn’t comprehend it, and were thrilled to find out that they were no longer together. her words took noah by surprise and he followed her without even waiting for her request to do so. “are you fucking kidding me? you didn’t want to see me. i was outside of your house every single day for, like, two months. security wouldn’t let me even past the gates.”

charlie could hear the whispers of the locals as she walked by, knowing they were very well whispering to each other about noah following her. they all loved to get involved and the girl didn’t trust anyone. world travelled fast in the small village and she was sure that by the time she got home, her mother would be waiting for her angrily. “no i’m not kidding you.” she held the heavy surfboard with one hand and held the other one out for balance as she skated down the street. “what?” she stopped in her tracks, her skateboard flying from under her and she was lucky to have caught herself before falling, that would have been embarrassing. “my parents told them not to let you in. not me. i waited for you and they told me you didn’t even try to come.”

‘ who said that we had to share this year? i’ve personally made it my goal to make as many faces at these newcomers and told them that we have the lochness monter’s cousin lurking away that’ll snatch them up — their name is georgie, remember that so that you can tell them the same, and then all of them are going to go running and you’ll get as many waves as you want, and i’ll never have to compete for my favorite flavor of ice cream ever again. ’

“ if you can actually make that happen, madison - i will owe you my entire life. georgie the lochness monster’s cousin, got it. we need to make flyers and put it in everyone’s mailbox. a PSA to let the locals know about the myth. if we don’t have every single tourist believing this by the end of this summer, we’ve failed. and if we make this happen, i will buy you ice cream every day for a year. deal? “

“hey, no one ever said we couldn’t pull off an elaborate scheme that’ll keep people off the beach every day until summer’s over. i’ll bring the ‘caution’ tape and set up what looks like a gross, horrible, bloody crime scene – pretend to be a cop and everything. then you get your waves and i get a happy charlie.”

“oh i have no doubt in my mind that YOU can pull of an elaborate scheme but me? we both know i’m not a schemer. so you call the shots and i will just be your loyal servant. ok there is one flaw in this brilliant plan raj - NO ONE would believe that you were a cop. “

“mhm.” noah nodded his head slowly, watching her face. god, how he had missed her face. he had made the habit to come by the beach and watch charlie surf from afar more often than not, but seeing her like that, up close, was so different. her response took him by surprise because he had never heard charlie being so cold towards another being, but he couldn’t blame her at all - he deserved everything she threw at him. “i know, i just don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable.” he cleared his throat, looking down at his boots as he tried to think of something, anything to say. “you look beautiful.” fuck, did he really have to say that? the male wanted to punch himself, that was ridiculous. he lifted his gaze to her with a nervous frown on his forehead. “i mean, you always do, but… yeah. you know.”

the waitress returned with charlie’s food and she had never been more thankful, but something told her that she wasn’t going to shake noah of that easy. he did what he wanted. “thanks cj. see ya.” she placed two singles in the tip jar and looked back at noah. “well this wouldn’t be the first time you have put me in  an uncomfortable situation...” she stepped on the edge of her skateboard so it stood up and grabbed it, holding it under her arm. “what?” she raised her eyebrow and looked at him, laughing sarcastically. “oh ok, thanks noah.” she made her way to the door and placed her skateboard down. she heard the chime of the door go off and she knew that he had followed her, which she had secretly wanted. “surprised your talking to me, seeing as you avoided me for six months.” she grabbed the surfboard that was leaning against the side of the building and held it under her left arm, stepping onto her skateboard and motioning for him to follow her so they could talk.

katelynn was never one to be up so early; usually she ended up sleeping in until the mid-day. however, here she was, sitting at a table for two at nine o’clock in the morning, with a journal and pencil in hand. CJ’s was her favorite restaurant in town, and not just because it was the only restaurant in town. A small sigh absent-mindedly escaped her lips, as she tapped the end of the pencil against the table. “Why is this so hard…” she mumbled to herself, not paying any attention to those around her.

"everything okay?” charlie raised her eyebrow, noticing katelynn sitting alone at a table nearby. she had stopped to grab a bagel before hitting the beach today. holding her skateboard under her arm, she walked over. “i never see you hear this early, to what do we owe this special occasion?”

charlie’s distress was painfully obvious on her face, a face that he could read all too well, and noah had never hated himself more than in that moment. “how have you been?” he tried to sound nonchalant, but honestly, he was all sweaty palms and pounding heart right now. seeing charlie from afar was nothing close to actually talking to her, after all those months. “i can…” he gestured to the door. “i can go if you want.”

“i’ve been okay.” she stated simply, looking down at the black full body wetsuit she had on over a bathing suit, wishing she had looked a bit better. not that she ever had to impress noah, but it would be nice if she looked good - so he could see what he was missing. except - he really wasn’t missing much. “this is a public place noah, you can go wherever you want.”

it had been so damn long since he had heard her voice that noah had to double take to make sure that was actually charlie. the male swallowed the lump in his throat and made his way over to her, standing behind her as she talked to the lady at the register. “uhm, hey char.”

charlie slipped her wallet back into the backpack that was thrown over her right shoulder, stepping to the side to wait for the food she had ordered to be finished. hearing a familiar voice, she turned slowly - her face going pale. “oh.” she paused, taking her backwards snapback off and running a hand through her hair. “hi.”

" as excited as i am for the warmer months to roll around, it sorta sucks too. like, i’m PUMPED to get in the waves without my wet suit, but i’m bummed that i have to share the beach - you know? guess i will just enjoy the empty beach and the FREEZING water as much as i can before may rolls around and ocean beach is open for the summer.“

ahhhhhhhh!!! i’m pippa and this is my baby charlie! and i am so excited to get things started around here! charlie is my little tomboy surfer girl and i have so much muse for her! here’s what you ougtha know! 

only answers to charlie; although her name is charlotte, she does not believe it fits her. her parents call her lottie and it makes her wanna barf. so never do that! 

rich parents; the sultan’s are very wealthy. mr. sultan is a business man and owns many nightclubs, including one on ocean beach that only runs in the warmer months. 

one of the guys; charlie is a major tomboy. she prefers jeans and sneakers rather than dresses and heels. she hardly wears makeup or does anything fancy with her hair. shopping has never appealed to her but sports have always been her strong suit. growing up she never had many girl friends, because she was outcasted. the boys however, loved her but she’s always just been “one of the guys”. charlie is the girl that guys go to for girl advice and help with other girls. 

disappointing mommy; charlie’s mother HATES that her daughter is not into the same things she is. she begs charlie to wear makeup and put on pretty dresses and ‘act like a lady’. she is constantly telling charlie that girls are meant to be pretty and that is why boys like them. they fight a lot about it but charlie will argue till she is blue in the face. she likes the way she is and she wants everyone else to like her for that as well. if they don’t, they don’t need to be in her life.

surfer girl; charlie lives at the beach, even in the winter. she surfs almost everyday, as long as the weather permits it. rain, cold- nothing will stop her. she has been offered sponsorships with a lot of big surf companies but her parents refuse to let her sign them, because they still have hopes for her giving up and becoming some sort of housewife barbie. 

activist; charlie has a very big heart and a lot of passion. she fights for feminism and equal rights but the environment and animals are her soft spot. she is always looking ways to make the world a better place. she dreams of one day working with marine animals and saving the whales.
