In the Dark ll Scarlett & Charity
In truth, Scarlett found the transformation from Hogwarts to now awkward and painful. She wasnât ready to leave school, and she felt entirely unprepared for what was to come, but she was trying to make it work. She knew it had been awkward for Charity as well. It wasnât that she didnât love her parents, but living with them full time is hard when youâre used to being away. Scarlett had considered trying to find that the two of them could rent, but sheâd be daft to think her brother or parents would allow her to live on her own. She wanted to ask if Charity just wanted to move in here, seeing as she was around so much, but she was almost afraid that sheâd say no.Â
Even at Hogwarts, Greta and Sturgis had gone out of their way to take care of them. That was part of the reason having Greta gone was so painful. She loved the other girl, so much so that the sadness hung over her like a cloak. Having Charity here was the only thing that kept Scarlett from going mad. After spending so many years sneaking into each others dorm rooms to stay the night, it almost felt unnatural not to have Charity with her. Sure they were in different houses, but that somehow never stopped them from being together as often as possible.Â
Scarlett had meant to sound so cold, it slipped out before she could stop it. Charity seemed to ignore it, and sat down by her anyways. The blonde was the last person Scarlett wanted to snap at, or pull away from. It was a natural instinct for her to do so, but with Charity she couldnât. Scarlett knew it hurt her when she shut down, and she never wanted to bring her pain. âI-I donât know,â she answered honestly. She wanted to say yes, but that wasnât believable at this point. There were too many emotions swirling around inside of her. âYes, that sounds good. Iâll come down with you,â Scarlett offered.Â
Charity has always considered Hogwarts more of a home than her actual home. Her parents werenât bad people, but they could sometimes be a bit overbearing when Charity was so used to her independence at school, and she didnât much appreciate them trying to pry into her private life at any given chance. They didnât seem to mind her staying over with Scarlett a hefty amount, but she knew it bothered them. She didnât really care.
The blonde smiled at her friend. She knew the two of them were the perfect balance for each other, almost polar opposites, but somehow the same. Scarlett had always been reserved and quiet and smart, while Charity was rather loud and outgoing and rather naive. âThatâs fine, you donât have to know,â she told Scarlett, wanting to embrace her and never let her go, but she had learned better than to initiate contact with other people.
Charity led the way down to the kitchen, and immediately started rummaging through the cupboards for tea. âRight. Thereâs lavender and chamomile, assorted green teas, some blacks...what sounds best?â she asked, holding up some of the options to show Scarlett,
