Thatâs no excuse Ryder. You shouldnât date somebody just because your parents like her, and you shouldnât have to deal with what she does to you. Her getting frustrated is no excuse to treat you like that, you donât deserve it.
Description: Ryder goes to help Marley and they both end up finding out some new things from Kitty.
Marley held her phone tightly in her hand as she listened carefully, but nit daring to look. She'd never seen a person that looked like this, and why were they hanging around so long. Why didn't they just take the money and leave, not that there was much money... maybe they were angry about that. She heard something crash down, probably a book shelf, oh no all those books, she took a couple of deep breaths to try and calm herself, she was probably more important than a few books and Ryder would be there soon.
Ryder: hurried out after he'd gotten the messages from Marley, he was worried about her. He didn't think it was the same person who was connected with the Fabwilde family, but he was still worried that Marley was in danger. He checked around the store, making sure there was nobody else and that there was just the one way into the store. Stepping inside, he got his gun and started doing his checks. "Marley?"
Marley jumped when she heard a voice, her head hit the top on the desk she was under, but she ignored the sharp pain and peered around the desk, spotting Ryder she waved him over, "Shh, he's down the other end," she whispers, but loud enough for him to hear. "He doesn't look like a normal person, like in costume or something," she explains, looking around a little. When a crashing noise came from the back of the store.
Ryder nodded, going down to where she was and hiding down with her. "Alright. You're alright. Don't worry, Marley. You're alright. I promise. I'm just going to go check it out, okay? You stay here and run for cover. Okay?"
Marley nods as Ryder talks, "I'm fine now, yeah, yeah okay," she continues nodding. "No just be careful, he might be dangerous, like what if his gun is bigger than yours or something," she asks quickly, grabbing on his arm to keep him there for a bit longer.
Ryder paused for a second, nodding. "I won't let anything happen, Marley. I checked around and it doesn't look like there's a gun at all. It'll be alright. Probably just some kid in a mask trying to scare you."
Marley nods again, shaking a little, "Yeah, yeah of course, I just... be careful okay," she says letting go of his arm, "Even if it is just a kid, be careful."
Ryder: kissed her forehead, smiling. "Don't worry. You're going to be alright. Everything will be fine. I'll just scare this kid off and everything will be fine. They're probably just confused."
Marley smiles quickly at him then drops it, "Okay yeah," she continues nodding, taking a couple of deep breaths. "Confused little... stupid heads. Thank you."
Ryder nods. "Exactly. I'll be right back for you, okay?" He got his gun situated, standing and moving through the cases as he looked around. Holding his gun up and pointing it at the stranger, he called out. "Police, turn around and put your hands up."
Marley watches Ryder as he leaves, then looks up over the desk. She wanted to see how the guy reacted, but she was sure he wouldn't be able to see her. Marley could see him and watched as he raised only one hand when Ryder spoke.
Ryder: sighed, lifting his gun up a little higher. "Come on. You don't want to do anything stupid. Both hands above your head." Ryder wasn't planning to shoot, since he didn't see a gun or anything.
Marley watches carefully, why didn't the guy just listen. Her eyes widen and she stands up quickly as the intruder's hand lit up, "Ryder!" she yells out, suddenly filled with a little more courage.
Ryder: was confused by the light, but his finger was squeezing the trigger before he even knew what he was doing. It wasn't a kill shot, just a hit to the shoulder to stop it. He was thrown back by the blast, smacking into the wall.
Kitty: was running, quickly approaching Marley's book store. She burst in just in time to see Ryder hit. "Ryder!" she screamed, running over to him.
Marley watched wide eyed as Ryder got hit and the other man disappeared, she ran around the desk and towards Ryder. Kitty burst in and she stopped before running over with Kitty, crouching down next to Ryder and before she knew what she was doing, and despite every instinct that she normally had to avoid a bloody mess, she placed her hands over the wound in his chest.
Kitty: looked down at Ryder, tears coming down her cheeks as she pushed his bangs out of his face. She knew this was coming, but it didn't mean it hurt less. She looked up as Marley approached them, crouched down, and then placed her hands over his wound. "What are you doing," she asked before she saw Marley's hands start to glow.
Marley shakes her head, I don't know what I'm doing, I just have to do this," she says her eyes widening as her hands started glowing, "Okay then," she smiles slightly, it dropping quickly as she concentrated on what she just knew she had to do.
Kitty: gasped as she saw Ryder's wound start to heal. She didn't know Marley was magical, let alone a whitelighter and at the moment she really didn't care.
Marley watches as the wound starts to heal, as it closes up she pulls her hands away, and looks up at Kitty, "I feel kinda dizzy, like I do whe..." she starts then falls down, exhausted from the process, and frightened from the shock of what she had just done, she faints.
Ryder took a quick, gasping breath and looked around, completely confused. "Marley...? When did Kitty get here?"
Kitty: hugged Ryder as soon as he spoke, "You're alive," she whispered, tears forming in her eyes again
Ryder nodded, blinking in confusion. "Uh... Yeah... You're alive, too. Where's the guy that was in here? He hit me with some kind of light."
Kitty: looked at Ryder "It was a fireball Ryder and the guy disappeared," she told him before crawling over to Marley and started to try to revive her. "Marley, wake up Marley." she said gently, shaking her
Ryder stared in confusion, shaking his head. "What...?" He looked over at Marley, reaching out for her. "Marley... Is she alright?"
Kitty: look back at Ryder, "She will be, she just used up a lot of energy," she said to him, then turning back to Marley and continued trying to wake her up.
Marley stirs slightly, opening her eyes slowly and looking up at Kitty, not saying anything, just watching her.
Ryder: nodded, relaxing a little. "I'm just... What was all that? Kitty, what are you doing here?"
Marley tilts her head to look at Ryder, then back at Kitty, "Yeah what?" she asks slowly.
Kitty smiled slightly when she saw Marley's eyes open then took some time to gather her thoughts in order to answer the questions asked. "That guy, was a demon that was, for some reason, here," she started looking at Marley but then turned to Ryder, "I came here hoping to keep the demon from killing you, but you died anyway and then Marley healed you," she then turned back to Marley, "Which, how did you do that by the way?"
Ryder shook his head, staring at her in confusion. "Okay. So, demons? And... I was dead. And you saw that before it happened?"
Marley looks at Kitty like she's insane, "What do you mean demon?," she pauses, "I didn't even know I just did it, because Ryder was there and... was he actually dead?" she looks at Ryder. "I don't understand any of this, how could she see it before?"
Kitty turned to look at Ryder, "Remember when we were at the diner at I freaked out when you wiped the syrup from my chin? Your touching me triggered a premonition, and I saw you die. Which is why I freaked out so bad, I didn't want you to die." she said, turning to look at Marley "Yes Marley he was, but you healed him. You brought him back." She got her thoughts together before starting to explain some more, "I mean a demon Marley, the bad guys of the supernatural world."
Ryder: paused, blinking his eyes and holding his head in his hands. "I'm really lost... I mean, that's not... That stuff isn't real. Did you bump your head, Kitty? I mean, I know I did... "
Marley looks at Kitty, not sure what exactly to say, "Maybe you did bump your head Kitty," she nods in agreement with Ryder. "You can't bring people back from the dead," she adds slowly.
Kitty looks over to Ryder, "I can prove it Ryder, I can tell you something that I am pretty sure nobody else knows, because I did not bump my head."
Ryder peeked out over his hands, looking up at Kitty. "What?"
Kitty looks nervously at Marley then back to Ryder, "I know about Vanessa, Ryder. About what she does to you. And, before you ask, the day we were on your boat and I freaked when I touched her jacket. I saw her yelling at you, and you leaning away from her."
Ryder: stared at her, taking a minute before catching on. "Kitty... I don't know what you're talking about. You n-need to get some rest."
Kitty stares at Ryder "Ryder please, you know I'm not lying, that I am not crazy"
Ryder: paused, sighing and nodding. "Okay... So, you see things. That's not...invasive at all."
Kitty: sighs, "I don't know how to control it. I just touch something and then I see things."
Ryder: "Alright... That's a little weird, but I guess it makes some sense. I just am having a little trouble following this whole thing."
Kitty: "I know it's hard to follow, and I'm sorry for this being sprung on you"
Ryder: nodded, looking up at her. "Well, that's not... It's not your fault or anything. Demons, though..."
Marley watches Kitty, staying quiet, unsure of what to say here.
Kitty "Demons... that reminds me," she turns quickly to Marley "The same demon that killed my sister is after you."
Marley shakes her head, "What... why would they be after me... is that the guy that was in the store before, the guy that hurt Ryder?" she talks quickly.
Kitty "No it's a different demon, a much scarier demon. I don't know why he is after you. But, I will do everything in my power to protect you"
Ryder: "Everything in your power... Can you fight demons with the visions?"
Marley turns to Ryder then back to Kitty, "I was wondering the same thing, I mean I guess you could see when he was coming, but how much can that really protect me?"
Kitty chuckles "Sorta, my premonitions gives a heads up and then we can prepare to fight what ever is coming after us."
Marley raises an eyebrow, "We? Who's we, is there like a group of you that see the future?"
Kitty looks at Marley "No, by we I mean Quinn, Britt, and I. We did this all the time before Britt died, we all have different powers" she said, her eyes tearing up from talking about Brittany
Marley watches Kitty, feeling really bad about making her bring up Brittany and getting upset, "Oh right," she nods, looking down a little, she wanted to ask more questions, but wasn't sure of how to go about it.
Ryder: reached out, gently wiping away Kitty's tears. "It's alright, Kitty... We'll help however we can."
Kitty hugs Ryder, "Thank you Ryder," she said. After a few minutes of composing herself she looked to Marley, "Anymore questions?"
Marley nods, relieved Kitty was feeling a bit better, she never coped well in situations where people were upset. "So many," she laughs slightly. "What are the powers exactly? Like you can see the future what does Quinn do," she decides not to ask about Brittany.
Kitty smiles, grateful Marley didn't ask about Brittany. "Quinn can freeze time," she sighed deeply before continuing, "Britt could move things with her mind."
Marley nods as she answers, "Wow, those are really cool powers," she smiles. "So are you guys like superheroes or something?" she asks.
Kitty chuckles at Marley's question, "No we're witches, the good ones."
Marley raises an eyebrow, "Witches?" she smiles a little, "In all the books I've red about witches, they've never had like powers like you've got, they're just magic you know and ugly, but you're not. So good witches, more like Glinda... as apposed to The Wicked Witch of the West then?"
Ryder: "But, Marley's not asking the real questions... Can you fly on a broom?"
Marley laughs, turning to Ryder, "Is that a real question though?" she jokes, "Oh is that how you got here? Do you have a broom outside?" she asks excitedly.
Kitty laughs at the exchange, "I ran here actually, we can't fly on brooms. Sucks I know," she laughed, "But um yeah, good witches"
Ryder: "Man... You got jipped, Kitty."
Kitty "I did, didn't I?"
Marley nods, "You did," she chuckles. "Oh do you have pointy hats?" she jumps in her spot as she asks.
Kitty: "No, we don't.
Marley nods slowly, "Okay then. What do you have? Anything typically witchy at all?"
Kitty "We have a Book of Shadows"
Marley frowns, "A what?"
Kitty "It's basically a spell book. But it has information on demons as well. Its been passed down through the Fabwilde family for generations.
Marley nods understandingly, "Of course it's a book of spells, I mean witches need spells," she laughs a little. "okay now seriously, why was I able to heal Ryder?" she asks, pointing at the guy she mentioned next to her.
Kitty studies Marley "Jake might know. I mean, if you were a whitelighter you would have known, but you don't know so it's crossed off the list."
Ryder: "Jake, the handyman...?"
Kitty "Yeah, he's our whitelighter. Whitelighters are assigned witches to protect and Jake was assigned my sisters and I, the charmed ones. He also fixes the house when we break it fighting demons."
Ryder: "Like... The hole in the wall?"
Marley listens at Kitty explains, "So he can do what I did then? Is that what your saying. But I didn't even know what a Whitelighter was until you told me, so I'm definitely not one of those. How often does your house get wrecked then? And why can't you use magic to fix it?"
Kitty nods "Like the hole in the wall, she said to Ryder and then turned to address Marley, "He can do what you did and more. Pretty often, demons like to attack us at home. We can't use magic for personal gain. Fixing our house would be personal gain."
Marley leans  in a little, thinking as she adjusts how she's sitting, "What else can he do then?" she asks. "But if you're fighting demons and they break your house, how could it be personal gain, because holes in the wall don't happen that often to normal people."
Kitty: "He can orb, which is like teleporting or something similar. I never thought of it that way, but Jake is happy to help"
Marley nods, "That's pretty cool, so he could like go anywhere?" she asks. "I guess it gives him an alibi too though right?"
Kitty "Yeah, it's like I told Ryder, Jake is literally an angel"
âIâm fine Ryder. We can just sit on the couch and watch movies or something, and Iâll be fine.â Kitty said, trying to placate Ryder. She held out her hand for him to grab so that she could lead him to the living room.
âRight... Alright. I just still donât really trust this house.â He took her hand, looking around as they walked. It seemed like such a normal house, but there was something going on and he knew it. âWhatâs that?â Pointing to the hole, he looked at her. âIs that why you have a handyman?â
âIf you are sure. I just donât want to be the reason why you are upset.â Kitty said. When Ryder offered his hand she took it, âThank you,â she said walking to her front door with him. She unlocked her door and lead Ryder inside.
He made sure she was safely inside, looking around. It was a nice house, actually. âDo you need to rest? I can get whatever you need if you just point me in the right direction...â Being in her house made him a little uncomfortable, but he was trying to take care of her.
Kitty looked over a Ryder, âAre you sure? I donât want to cause a fight or anything. The last thing I want to do is cause a fight between you two. You are a very sweet guy Ryder.â Kitty said, giving Ryder a sad look as soon as he turned his attention back to the road.
âNo, Kitty. Itâs fine. I promise. I just need to explain to her that I had to make sure youâre alright because... Well, I mean, you live in the murder house. Iâll take care of Vanessa, donât worry.â He parked, opening her door and offering her a hand. âYouâre alright to walk?â
âThank you Ryder, youâre very sweet. Iâm sorry Iâm keeping you from Vanessa.â Kitty apologized as he lead her to his car. âIâll be fine Ryder,â Kitty said, after deciding how she was going to answer Ryderâs question. She mumbled an âeventuallyâ to herself, hoping Ryder didnât hear.
He shook his head, biting at his lip. âNo, Kitty. Itâs fine. I promise itâs fine. Vanessa just wonât be too happy about it, but sheâll be alright. Weâll talk through it... But, I just need to make sure youâre alright. Iâm worried about you, Kitty. With everything going on at your house, I want to make completely sure that youâre safe.â
After a while Kitty was finally calm enough to form a coherent sentence, âIâm sorry,â she whispered, âI have no idea what came over me.â She looked up at Ryder, âCan you take me home and stay with me? I donât want to be alone,â she asked, she was going to attempt to keep her premonition from coming true.
âHey, itâs okay. Donât worry. Iâm gonna take care of you. I can call Vanessa, just tell her that Iâll be home later than I expected. Letâs just get you home.â He smiled, trying to help her relax as much as he could. Helping her up, he lead her back to his car and started to her house. âYouâre sure youâre alright?â
Kitty didnât hesitate to throw her arms around Ryderâs shoulders as tears slipped out of her eyes. She didnât want to lose him, not before she ever got to have him. She kept mumbling denials as she sobbed into Ryder, not caring that the man had no idea what to do with her.
He bit his lip, wrapping his arms around her and carefully rubbing his hand down her back. âKitty, itâs going to be alright. Just relax. Youâre alright. I promise youâre safe here. Nothingâs going to hurt you.â Ryder wasnât sure what to do, heâd never seen anyone do something like that out of nowhere before and he was honestly tempted to check for a wound of some kind if she wasnât so hysterical. âDo you want me to take you home? What can I do?â
