Enjolras felt the air still around him. Something wasn’t right. It wasn’t possible for him to deny his own passing, but there was absolutely no way that Javert should have known about it. The inspector died several hours before he did. Unless Javert somehow managed to escape… The revolutionary had no reason to doubt that older volunteer—he saved his life after all—but now he was beginning to feel the pull of suspicion.
"What makes you say that?" His words were laced with care. Though he was edging on the lines of skepticism, Enjolras made an effort in keeping his marble poise.
The atmosphere grows thick as the awkwardness of this situation becomes more obvious.Both parties were supposed to be dead, yet both are very much alive. Seemingly so, anyway.
"I say that because I saw your bloodied body lying limp in the streets. I heard tales of your execution, of your corpse dangling from the window."
His eyes narrow as he studies the revolutionary before him. No doubt he believed Javert to also be dead. He had no reason to mistrust Valjean. Not as Javert had come to mistrust him. Although, the events that transpired were a surprise to him as well.
