Laughing, Liliane shook her head.ย โNo, certainly not. This is a letter to my cousin. Sheโs a very regular correspondent and Iโm already being scolded for not replying quickly enough.โ Marguerite was very demanding but Liliane loved her that way.ย โI think the professors are already planning how to completely swamp us with work though. Do you agree?โ
โdid i ask?โ rabastan remarked coolly, his words ice cold. truth was, he did need a spot to sit. he had to write a number of letters of various importance to scattered people. some he didnโt want the prying eyes of his housemates to see. usually this early in the term, he hadnโt expected so many students to crowd the library. it had done nothing to sooth the short tempered slytherin. however, image was important,ย โpardon me, busy libraries can make one,โ he paused,ย โirritable,โ he forced a smile, before taking the empty seat, pulling his ink, quill, and parchment.ย
โThen go somewhere else,โ Liliane said, her own tone every bit as cool as his. She generally tried to be polite, but there didnโt seem to be a point if he was going to start off that rude. Raising an eyebrow, she watched as he took the seat after all. The apology was somewhat lacking, considering that even anย irritableย person could be more polite than that, but she nodded in acknowledgement.ย โI got lucky and arrived before the rush,โ she said, feeling the dreadful urge to be a little annoying. She normally fought that urge but maybe not this time.

โThat seat is open,โ Liliane said absently, as she heard footsteps behind her. The library seemed unusually crowded at the moment; she wasnโt working anymore, although she still had a neat pile of books in front of her. Margueriteโs letter had stolen Lilianeโs attention for now, and she probably should give up her seat and go write a reply in the dorm, but she didnโt feel like moving yet.

Liliane waved her wand at the record player and grinned at her roommates as her favorite singerโs voice filled the air, although Liliane joined in right away, of course.ย โIโve got a cauldron full of hot, strong love and itโs bubbling for you! Say Incendio but that spellโs not hot as my special witchโs brew!โ She had a feeling that the music would be switched out very quickly for the Hobgoblins but at least she got a startย with Celestina.

Liliane Marielle Chastain
Her parents and aunt (her dadโs sister) emigrated to France long before Lilianeโs birth; they chose to change their names to better fit in with French pureblood society
Liliane was a complete surprise but her parents decided a child could be useful - they wanted a son but ended up with Liliane instead and resolved to make the best of it
The family was all involved in a potioneering business together - Lilianeโs mother Odette took care of bookkeeping and clients, while Adrien and Jocelyn did the work
Shortly after Lilianeโs birth, her mother struck up an acquaintanceship with Madame Bellamy so that Liliane had a good influence from her earliest memories - it proved to be one of the few things Odette did that Liliane appreciated, as Gabrielle was her very best friend
Odette wanted to expand their familyโs influence so instead of sending Liliane to Beauxbatons, Odette sent her to Hogwarts; Lilianeโs first year was not fun and she kept to herself. Her English was good but not quite good enough for extended conversations or keeping up in class. But by her second year, Liliane did better and was able to make friends
When Liliane was fifteen, her parents purchased a country estate and Liliane befriended their new gardenerโs child, Alexis; it was a friendship that lasted for several years but when Liliane was home between her seventh and eighth years, her parents found out. The gardener was dismissed and Liliane was heartbroken. Finding out her parents intended to arrange her marriage was the final straw
Liliane left her parents and went to live with her aunt Jocelyn at that point; Jocelyn had separated from the family business and started her own potioneer shop and she welcomed Liliane with open arms
It was quite a shock for Liliane to be free to pursue her own ambitions but sheโs very happy now; she wants to be a Mediwitch (and help the Order) after Hogwarts
