out. guess who has two thumbs and lost all of their icons but really wants to make a comeback
“Think nothing of it.”
Marinette grinned, resting her hands on her hips, tilting it almost playfully in his direction. Flirting with Adrien? No, she wouldn’t dream of it (okay yes, she has)– but the most important thing was that she was elated to see him unharmed by the ruffians. Honestly, if they’d gotten a single hair out of him she would’ve unleashed a world of hurt upon them. And miraculously, she suppressed the butterflies in her stomach and maintained good eye-contact with the boy. It really shouldn’t surprise her. Her confidence bolstered as Ladybug, so did her personality without the handicap of the shy, geeky girl she was at school.
“Think you can walk home all by your lonesome?” She totally wasn’t offering to be his escort, oh no– she totally was. "The route you’re taking seems a bit dangerous, y’know?”
Of course, he was used to the somewhat playful demeanor she posed often after a battle -- but as Chat Noir, not necessarily Adrien. A nervousness crept up his spine and he smiled, mentally kicking himself for not being able to act so casually. (Of course -- it was fine to look a little odd, wasn’t it? He’d just been cornered and saved by LADYBUG, no less.) He couldn’t hide behind a mask to make his usual flirty remarks. The whole encounter was foreign territory to him.
“Ah, well --” He managed to tear his gaze away from her, instead looking towards the direction he was planning on heading before he’d been caught up in something else. “I thought would have been safer, since it always seems like the alleys are empty and the photographers get annoying. I guess I was wrong.”

Daniel looked up at the other, expecting to be laughed at, or a look of disgust on his face, and instead was met with kindness and an outstretched hand. Daniel could feel his heart race in his chest, starting slow and then thundering on as his cheeks turned pink with a soft blush. He wasn’t used to this, wasn’t really used to any interactions with other riders, he tended to keep to himself. He’d always preferred it that way.
But not anymore.
He hesitated a moment. scared that if their hands met, Adrien would feel his hammering heart, before he finally took the hand and got to his feet. “A-Ah, sorry.” He said again, feeling very embarrassed for how he’d reacted. “I’m not, used to social interactions.” He chuckled a little, trying to play it off. “It was mostly just me and my parents, I guess you could say I’m introverted. I always had trouble getting to know others.”
Adrien was always a big believer in good sportsmanship -- no matter the chosen passion. Everyone at the event (well, most at the event) were here to gain some enjoyment of the nature of the competition, not at what was handed out at the end of the three days. Though his father kept him on a short leash, the Agreste heir wasn’t one to shy away from other competitors. In fact, he was glad to have met another who cared so deeply for their animal’s wellbeing. It was an admirable trait -- one he knew he wanted to see more often.
With a firm grip, he pulled Daniel to his feet and smiled. “Again -- - no worries. Just glad you and your horse are okay.” Eventing was more and more dangerous every year, it seemed; Adrien wasn’t a fan of how ignored it was. “That’s not too terrible. People are often hard to deal with --- I think that’s why most of us turn to the four-legged species, non?” At his own comment, the young man’s smile widened.
Relief flooded her as his surprise turned to laughter; a sound that never failed to make Marinette smile herself. From the first time she heard it at the beginning of the year to now, Marinette adored Adrien’s smile and laugh–always wanting ot be on the recieving end of it and hear that light, carefree sign of happiness. The fact that Adrien was having fun with all of them made Marinette’s heart swell–true, he interacted more with her classmates than she, but at least she hadn’t taken away from his first experience with a public school…after the second day, anyway.
“Great! I-I’m glad that we haven’t given you a reason to hate school like most kid claim to. And yeah, I lo–er–we love having you here! I mean we got off on the wrong foot–not that it was your fault–I jumped to conclusions and I’m really sorry about those first couple of days but you were definitely a great friend to everyone.”
For a while, Adrien had been slightly paranoid about how others would perceive him. The initial few weeks at his first glimpse of public school were spent with a nail-biting level of anxious wonderings; certainly Chloe had established a less-than-favorable relationship with the majority of students, and his mannerisms were soon determined as awkward among those of his own age. Things took time, however, and as Nino took him under his wing he soon let his fears fade away.
“Indeed -- - I could never think of a reason to hate this place.” It was certainly better than being cooped up every single day in his own house. Adrien tried to avoid recalling that very first day. “Don’t worry about it, Marinette. I know, ah, most of Chloe’s reputation -- - it kinda made a little sense to think things were like how you believed. I’m not angry, promise.”
“Sorry, is this your…?”
Mansion? Manor? Marinette couldn’t say, flailing against the wall as she tried to stand, unsuccessfully of course, forgetting she was in fact immobilized for the time being– but she was flustered, having been caught in such a compromising position by the boy whose opinion mattered the world to her. She couldn’t look at him in the eye, in fear of what she’d see in them. Probably pity and alarm. Shamefaced, she gave her hand to him, while using the wall as support as she pulled herself together, resting her hip against the gate.
Blood gushed from her knee, having bent it when she rose– it was expected, but she still she found herself hissing in pain. When she finally looked Adrien in the eye with a tearful gaze, her lips trembled. She could do this. This was no time to be embarrassed– just say what you mean. But after opening her mouth, she instantly regretted it. The simple act of breathing caused to her double over, and she was more tense than ever before.
“Help,” she choked out, pressing a hand over her rib. “It hurts so much– I can’t breathe.”
Adrien didn’t know what to think. Scratch that -- - he wasn’t quite sure what to do. Most civilians stayed out of the way when an akuma battle occurred, and even if they were caught in the crossfire --- Ladybug healed them. That was the magic of the Lucky Charm (or maybe he had been mistaken --no, he couldn’t have). Emerald hues danced in a nervous tremor up and down over the girl’s shaken form, settling on the sight of red coming from the torn pink fabric of her jeans. Immediately it snapped the boy from his stupor; he turned and ducked beneath her arm, bringing it to settle against his shoulders for support. Nathalie’s voice was already crackling though the receiver, demanding to know who it was outside the gate.
“It’s Adrien. I -- - Nathalie, there’s been an incident.”
Desperation wrought his voice, but his mind was wrought with the panic of unknown territory. What would he say? How would he explain it? They both had seen far better days, and the adults were going to want answers he didn’t know how to give. When the panel clicked off and the gates began to open, Adrien stepped forward. The sooner Marinette could receive treatment, the better -- - but it would be a definite shot in the dark to assume his acting skills were as decent as those of his modeling career. Blonde tresses shifted as he turned his head, speaking low to his wounded classmate.
“We have the staff on hand to help, Marinette. Everything’s gonna be alright, just --- - follow my lead.”
“Now, you don’t LOOK like a damsel in distress, but what purpose do you have for being out this late, Madame?”

“I must say, Nathanael, I’m always really impressed by your drawings. Your talent is amazing!”

exciting and what felt like a fantasy———she couldn’t believe this was all happening. She had only dreamt of moments like this, where she would have the opportunity to close the distance. With her clumsy nature, it was as if had distanced herself, afraid of making a move. ( The strong desire to to tell him… ) Yet she turned her back on the path forward, and was stuck in the middle of a road————–unable to make that first move.
A laugh escaped her widened smile, but this smile was different from the others. When nervous a distorted smile would take its place, almost seeming forced. With the lack of confidence around the boy who made her heart skip a beat, it was a tad-bit difficult to smile from the heart, when it felt like it was about to explode. Yet now, a beautiful smile had formed easier at each corner of her lips and the sight was truly heart-warming.
❛ Trés Bien—but i think you need a little something. ❜
A hand to her chin, judging his outfit like a true designer she had a glorious idea. Her expression lightened and she walked towards him. She didn’t know how she was acting so serious, her eternal screams echoed but she kept her composure. She stood right in front of him, and like a strike of lightening, she takes the paint that was on her index finger and pokes the tip of his nose. Now her masterpiece was complete——and she let out a giggle.
❛ Now your ready for the camera. ❜
Steps were always taken to try and subtly persuade Marinette that he wasn’t who she might believe him to be. That morning upon first meeting -- terrible, terrible circumstances no less -- - he’d been scrambling ever since to try and emphasize that the traits she had presumed were not at all who he was. It’s not that she treated him with contempt, no; the girl before him had been considerate since that day in poor weather, but overly skittish --- as if he still had not soothed her doubts.
But now, with shaken giggles threatening to fork over the last remaining pride he had by turning into an undignified snort, he could see that maybe there was more miscommunication than they both could ever understand. A hand reaches up casually to try and cover his mouth, his modelling stature composed everywhere else with refined training through the years. He stilled when she stepped nearer, as if he were a doll inviting to be posed (an action nothing less than instinctual for the son of a fashion designer).
Adrien’s stifled laughter died in his throat as it gave way to shock, a slight scoff of suprise at the cool paint dabbed onto his nose. Marinette had made his own heart jolt at the forwardness of her actions. Brave girl! The corners of the boy’s open mouth pulled up sharply, teeth almost wicked in the grin displayed. Green fingers ran over themselves, as if to check that they would still have an effect, before he retaliates with a smear across the bridge of her own face.
“Even better idea -- - we now match.”
