only child of a very overbearing, overprotective and all the overs you can think of─ couple. the kind of parents that thought that throwing money at their kid would make up for every missed important milestone and all the emotional neglect they put her through… so really it's not surprise mina is the way that she is.
always has been very smart. ever since she was a kid, her parents took the fact that she started reading earlier than other kids her age and raaaaaan with it. immediately put on all the pressure they could upon her tiny little shoulders. she had to be the first on the honors list, had to get the best grades and be the #1 on every single extracurricular ( piano lessons every monday, wednesday and friday; violin on the weekends, ballet on tuesdays and thursdays ) leaving her with barely any time to be a kid. of course she didn't know any better, and as a little kid desperate for attention and approval she had no other choice but to go along with their every whim.
as she grew up so did the expectations, the pressure, the so called “ duties ” as a daughter of a “ renowned ” family within the city. her high school years are, still, mostly a blur just from how stressed she constantly was. any little slip up on her part meant disappointment from her parents, a disappointment she couldn't bear to see… which in turn turned her need for approval into a slow growing resentment. because why could everyone have fun except for her? why did they have to control every single aspect of her life? why couldn't she just be herself?
the resentment grew enough to lead to “ rebellion ” as her parents called it. but it was actually just her trying to live a little. did her grades suffer? not in the slightest. but the fact that she would talk back, refuse to keep going to her extracurriculars ( she didn't even like playing instruments ) and was no longer their ‘ yes ’ little girl was all they needed to push the narrative of mina being an ungrateful child that didn't listen or appreciate the life they gave her, that she was wasting her potential.
the punishments began there ( never physical ones, they cared too much about their image ). first it was taking away her favorite things, then trying to keep her in her room, then forbidding her from talking to her friends. the more they tried to subdue her into the people pleaser kid she was before the more she would act up. it became a vicious cycle until they decided to just… stop, everything. stop caring, stop supporting her. it should've felt awful, but for mina it was the closest thing to freedom she'd gotten in her entire life.
midway through high school she started to have more of a social life and wasn't so hyperfocused with her studies. she'd still get good grades but tried not to care too much about whether or not she was the one with the best grades. going to parties, staying up late, sleep overs with friends; things that were once forbidden were now quickly becoming her favorite things ( even if sometimes she had to sneak out of home in order to do them ).
of course, the radio silence from her parents hurt more than she willing to admit but… they had never been the most openly loving… there wasn't much to miss there. well... that's what she would say if she hadn't spent her last year of high school trying to get their attention in the worst way possible... every single problem at school? you bet mina somehow got involved, her name one of the first one mentioned. any party that would surely be the talk of the town? she couldn't miss it for the world. everyone was talking about her! but not for the reasons her parents would've liked.
then high school ended and they couldn't have sent her away any faster. told her to pick any city she liked, they'd pay for college there. she could study whatever she wanted as a minor ( as a treat ) as long as her major was something they chose. of course mina saw this offer for what it really was: a way for them to keep trouble away from their family name and to keep her mostly subdued. but being away from irwinville and into a bigger city, free at last, was too big of an opportunity to miss out on so... she took it.
a real taste of what her life should have been like. doing what she wanted. so she moved to new york, all expenses paid, it didn't even matter that she had to study something she didn't care about ( business administration, wasn't so bad after all ) since she could also learn about something she'd always been interested in ( graphic design ). those years out of indiana were the best of her life, genuinely.
that was until, of course, college ended and... she didn't know what to do. a lifetime of doing what others told her meant that she had no idea what she wanted to do for herself... other than partying and drinking... she didn't really know how she wanted to live the rest of her life. everyone was moving onto their work life, onto bigger things and she felt like she was left behind. trying to cling onto her stolen youth...
she couldn't hold a job because it just never felt right. got bored too easily with the corporate life, frustrated when things didn't go her way on the first try or simply couldn't deal with the stupidity within the hierarchy. then... she had no other choice but to go back home. got word of her mother getting sick and despite never having the best relationship with her that was still her mother.
found out that somewhere along the line her father had managed to secure a position within the town council and now had real power and influence. it doesn't sit right with her but she's keeping her mouth shut... for now.

definitely the kind of person that gives of maaajoooor bitch vibes as a first impression, and lowkey she kinda is! but never without reason! she's genuinely very friendly and easy to get along with; she's just a little too blunt and out of touch sometimes.
went through a huge glow up right in the middle of high school. from having her head buried in her books to actually talking to people, going to parties, flirting with boys.
loyal ride or die friend!! would genuinely kill ( and / or die ) for her besties. absolutely haaateeeed the fact that they all went their separate ways after high school. definitely tried to keep in contact but as it died down she just... let it happen.
her personality is very ' it is what it is ' went from caring too much about everything to caring very little nowadays. likes to just... go with the flow. though she does have moments where she feels like pulling out her hair out of stress, especially if it involves a loved one.
