While Jamie is on the outside fighting for seconds, there’s another man on the phone he’s trying to keep alive. Excerpt:

Abernathy blew out a long breath, eyes wide. “Well, it’s definitely related to you personally.”

“What do ye mean?”

“The phone we pulled off the hostage? We answered it.”

Dread slid into the pit of Fraser’s stomach. “Who was on the other end?”

Joe shook his head, lips pursed into a frown. “Don’t know yet. All they said was your name. The phone’s locked, we can’t call out from it. We’ll have to wait for them to make contact again.”

Every single incident he’d ever worked ran through Jamie’s mind like a bullet train. Who’d recently gotten out of prison that he’d helped to lock up? Who may have had connections to terrorist organizations? Who had gotten away and was dumb enough to leave the relative safety of non-extradition countries? Infuriatingly, he drew a blank. “I need to call my boss. Have ye got a secure line I can use?”
