Awko-taco (bell) | Orpheus | Chapter 5 | ATTN: Kimiko

Sighing in relief as Kimiko accepted his apology, Orpheus came back to his full height, a small smile adorning his face. It was good to know that she didnât hold his conduct during the previous trial against him - which meant that they were still on good terms, right? At least, Orpheus would like to think soâŚ
Either way, he wasnât allowed to ponder much further upon this topic, given that Kimiko essentially bombarded him with questions while he had moved behind the counter to get some coffee done. While he started to check whether there were enough coffee beans, water and anything else that was necessary for that sweet, sweet beverage, he also continued the conversation:
âI would be lying if I wasnât at least a little bit tempted to explore my research laboratory right away. However, once Iâm in there, I am not sure whether Iâd be able to leaveit soon enough⌠Sitting down and reading a good book after a long day is quite relaxing for me.â
âAs for the other two laboratories, I have actually visited them already. They are⌠interesting, but I do not think I will spend much time in either of them.â
He opened his mouth right afterwards, but then halted himself - there was no reason to mention that he didnât find anything of note in these rooms. After all, it would only lead back to discussing their unfortunate circumstances and⌠it would be best to forget it for at least a little while, right?
Better to focus on her last inquiry, then!
âAs for why I know how to make coffee⌠Iâve learnt to do so from a young age, along with other domestic duties. Whenâ When I was young, I often helped out when it came to housework. Cooking, cleaning, you name it - I⌠was simply happy when I was able to help out. So I simply acquired these skills over time.â
Alright, the coffee machine was ready to go - he only needed to input what it should produce now, which meant it was his time to ask questions.
âOn that note, how would you like your coffee?â
Seeing Orpheus take on her apology also prompted Kimiko to physically relax, even though she hadnât realised sheâd been quite as tense as she actually was- when he straightened back to his full height, Kimiko ended up doing the same herself, his smile prompting the girlâs shoulders to relax where theyâd been as clenched in expectation of... what, exactly? Who knew. Kimiko wasnât about to mentally dig into it, preferring to grin back at Orpheus instead as she hopped up onto a seat by the counter to watch him work.Â
âOhhhhh, I see- so itâs kinda like you feel like that one you DO go in there, you wonât wanna do anything else today? Hee, thatâs pretty admirable planning... I get it, though..! I meaaaan... I only used to read in the car while we were travelling when I was a kid, and that was only a LITTLE bit, buuuuut I think I understand the feeling, hee.â
That complete near-lack of being able to relate to anything aside, Kimiko kicked her legs back and forth where she sat, tipping her head to watch Orpheus curiously as he answered her question.Â
âAwwww, thatâs sweet of baby Orphy..! Did you really do all this chore stuff just because you liked it, orrrrr was it more because you kept being told to though, hee.â At least she was clearly just teasing, going off her widened grin. âCoffeeâs an interesting chore to pick up, though! Donât tell me six year old Orphy felt so worn out by sweeping or whatever he needed to start knocking back the caffeine so early..!â
âBut hmmmmm..! Weeell, my normal go-to are frappuccinos, buuuuut that seems a LIL much to just put on you right away, hee... unless you know how to make one, of course! Though, ummmm, Iâm not sure what I would have instead... ohhhhh, how about you make me what YOU would usually have annnnd Iâll try that! Or surprise me, I guess, hee.âÂ
Well, at least sheâd perked back up again, huh.Â
