Okay I keep seeing this on my dash, and I am very passionate about this, so..... because I heavily rely on this broadcast, I feel like I should educate those that do not know how aweosme PBS Kids is!
I have been working in early childhood education for over 15 years. I teach ages 0-5, and we show todddlers how to be humans and how to interact with the world through dramatic play and musical education. We teach everything from manners to emotional control. We learn colors, numbers up to 50, shapes, letters, days of the week, months of the year, and phonics like sight words and reading comprehension. This year, we are also learning colors, shapes, and numbers 1-20 in Spanish. We do more, but I wanna focus on this amazing children's educational channel that is PBS Kids.
PBS Kids have been so many amazing series that help develop all of those skills as stated above, as well as social skills, vocal skills, spelling, math, and educating the kids on how diverse the world is.
Let's explore some of today's PBS Kids shows!
1. Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood
I know that society gets a little iffy about remakes and sequels, but Daniel Tiger is a brilliant example of how to do it right! The calm and slow pace helps the children gather an understanding of emotional control while inolvolving real world situations.
It is wonderfully diverse with a wide range of good characters and storylines while combining classic Mister Roger's characters along with a few fresh faces. Great for any morning routine.
2. Xavier Riddle & The Secret Museum
This is a PHENOMENAL show that deserves to win awards. It's historical education is top notch, and they are experts and simplifying history in a way that all ages can enjoy, while also learning of those that helped history make it's place.
Yes, that is Bob Ross up there among others. There are people that they explore in this show that I never thought any kid show would explore. And the kids ADORE IT.
3. Carl the Collector
This is a new show that just premiered and it focuses on Carl who is a lover of all collections, and he often uses his collections to help his friends in every day life.
This one brought a tear to my eye, because not only does it tackle topics like autism, but it also highlights other perks that kids might have, such as sensitivity to loud noises, and even the experience of synesthesia (being able to see colors in music, for example) and how to interact with kids who have these lovely perks.
Lots of kids relate to these topics, and Carol the collector feels like it was made by professionals who knew how to cater to children's phycological development.
4. Molly of Denali
This is an excellent show depicting the life of Natives along the state of Alaska. It shines a brave light on the history of Native People and their experiences on how important their culture is. It lifts up those that did not have a voice for a long time. This show helps support the idea of helping the environment and educating ourselves on the past and how we can create a better future.
Molly of Denali is a game changer in children's edutainment, and it offers education that isn't really seen in other kid's shows. It is imperative that kids have a basic understanding of the world they are entering into, and shows like this really help turn the tide in going forward in History instead of backward.
5. Let's go Luna
Earth's moon, Luna, embarks on many adventures around the world with a group of circus kids. The show dives in on adoration and appreciation for cultures that most American kids might never get to experience, and they get to explore fashion, music, and customs. It is vibrant, colorful, and it really feels like you are in these countries with the amount of research that was clearly done to make it as culturally accurate as possible.
6. If you liked "Zaboomafo" as a kid, then I suggest:
Wild Kratts is fun for both kids and adults. It is educational, whimsical, speaks to a wide range of ages, and it built on the original classic Zaboomafo idea. And it's in the style of Kim Possible, which gives it an A+ for me!
PBS Kids has always been an amazing tool to help kids learn real-life lessons, how to treat their friends, and how to regulate their reactionary control. Today's shows have gone above and beyond when it comes to educating children, and it is a real shame that we as a country do not hold the same value to education as we used to.
We all know that this administration doesn't want to educate children. If children become educated, then they will grow up to realize how much this government continually enjoys screwing us over. I am ready to stick it to this government, how about you? Mr. Rogers would be sorely disappointed on how many steps back we have taken, and I want nothing more than to make that man proud.
These shows are awesome, and I know that they must have piqued SOMEONE'S interest. There is a free PBSkids app that has full fleged episodes to watch and really cool games. When I babysit, these kids have the app, and damn..... the games are actually fun!!! A GREAT way to stick it to our government is to download the app and use the shit out of it! Make it one of the most used apps to date. Do it out of spite.
I do not work with PBSkids in any way. I do not make money from the app or anything, I am just a concerned caregiver that is passionate about teaching kids the fundamentals of what being a person is, and I PBSkids offers real life examples that is hard to replicate in a classroom.
Help me help these kids.
Play around with that app.

Got a pattern for glisten down! still need to test it but I'm super happy! Can't wait to put it together and see how it goes. I still have to properly break down the pattern into a printable file but ill worry about that when i know the pattern works. Gotta also worry about his accessories but we're getting there!
More details under the cut!
Still trying to figure out parts of the plush, namely the hair and feet rn.
while he's going to be jointed, i still want to keep this plush as simple as possible, so a lot of parts are two pieces (the arms, legs, and body) but im not sure how the feet will come out if its two pieces. So i may try to make something out of clay and get a pattern from that.
Wrists were originally supposed to be jointed but nah i dont want to complicate things, so ignore the line there.
the mirror with the face embroidery is gonna be a separate part sewed onto the rim (pray for me)
Hair is giving me the most headaches cause i abandoned the intial idea which you can see in the previous post. I was thinking about sewing on a back piece to the hair and stuffing it kinda like how you would do paw pads on a fursuit might actually make the back piece into the front piece instead so that the hair sticks out more and use embroidery to define the swirl. idk if that makes sense. Besides that I might give the bottom of the head a slightly flatter base so it stays on the body better.
Right now the plush is looking to be 15 inches so that some parts aren't too small to sew.
If y'all have any thoughts about it let me know.
Folks, backup your Tumblrs, for real this time
To be clear, I don't have any news about any impending doom. But I've heard a bit more about what's going on with staff after the layoff of last week, and there are even less people than I thought still working here.
I don't think even the current staff know what's going to happen, but honestly, I don't see how the high ups could even pretend to intend to keep this place open while virtually unstaffed.
And of course, if the most despicable thing happens, you can find me at @[email protected] from any fediverse platform 🤷
for reference, OP is a former employee of Tumblr who tries to keep up to date with tumblr’s inner workings. please back your blogs up.
In your blog settings you have the ability to initiate a blog export, and this will generate a backup for your blog.
Fair warning though, if you've been on the platform for a long time this archive is likely to be quite hefty in file size. This blog I have had for 5 years with 22k posts, and the export from tumblr came to be 48GB. My previous blog I made in 2011 and has 95k posts, so needless to say I did not use tumblr's built in export to back that one up.
If you want more control over exactly what you back up from your blog, I recommend that you use tumblr-utils instead. It allows you to backup specific tags, post types, and to ignore posts that you did not create (reblogs where you've added a comment count as a post you created, to be clear).
To use it:
download and install python
create an application on tumblr to get an api key
create a folder where you would like to save your backups and right click to open it in the terminal/command prompt, or type cmd.exe in the address bar from inside that folder
now in the window that opens it should show the current path, and you can type pip install tumblr-backup, and then when it is installed type tumblr-backup --set-api-key [your oauth consumer key], and then finally tumblr-backup [your options] [your blog name], like so:
Backing up just my original posts from this blog with this command came to 632MB rather than 48GB, and also gave me the option to save my posts in JSON format which will be useful for converting my posts to a new format for self hosting.
On that note I'm currently looking into figuring out a simple (and ideally free) way of self hosting a static site blog that utilises activitypub, and also converting my old posts to re-host on said blog.
This post series by maho.dev on implementing activitypub with any static site is my primary source of guidance atm if you also want to try figure that out yourself, as well as having an explanation for why you'd even want to do this if you don't already know
but if tumblr goes down before I get things sorted and write up a post about it then i'll be reporting back on it via my bsky, mastodon, and toyhouse accounts
if you dont have an account on any of these I'll also be sharing an update via my personal site's RSS feed, link of which includes an explanation of what RSS is and some feed readers you can use, I highly recommend checking it out as getting a feed reader is going to be the best way you can stay connected with people if they scatter across the internet!
tldr: download tumblr-utils to backup your blog more efficiently, introduce yourself to RSS and get a feed reader to stay connected with people, consider saving mine so you can find out how to self host your blog later if tumblr goes down
We got zippers! Now all that's left is finishing the inner lining and custom pillow to stuff him with!
Welp, to cope with stress I have gone ahead and started designing a plush pattern for Glisten. He's kinda designed to work like a fashion doll where I can make him clothes and accessories. Think I'll make him jointed too.
Right now im using adobe illustrator to plan out the pattern since vector graphic make it easier to edit things and adobe lets you measure the length of lines in inches which helps with scale. (If yall know an alternative that can do the same thing please let me know).
Figured id keep yall updated on the plush making progress, right now glistens hair is stressing me out, im planning on using a technique similar to The-Crafty-Kaiju's method on Deviantart wish me luck, definitely gonna test it when i can.
Finished Liam's zippers btw, ill post a pic or video when i can.
Eyyyy Teagan my third favorte character! She's just a such a beautiful character and she has a super useful ability (got me to a high floor on a solo run). Anyway, watch her do a kickflip.
Wanted to design a sleepy skin for Glisten cause i love seeing the toons in their jammys (I doubt it would look like this is the game but let me dream.
Then there's a quick Twisted Glisten doodle, hes my favorite twisted in the game too. And finally had a silly little idea of a rescued Twisted Glisten putting on his sleeping gown as a treat. Side note if anyone has any good Rescued Twisted Glisten content lmk.
Guess who just got into Dandy's World.... Anyway i like to think these two are friends.
@hiraethminds I love your sona, ive been wanting to draw them for awhile hope you like it
I finished the main parts of the patterns! All thats left now is to add some fake zippers since the real ones are too small to show up, finish the lining inside, and make a cushion to stuff him with when not being used as a backpack. I would make some process notes but im pretty tired and its all a blur by now, lemme know if you genuinely want some thoughts I can scrounge something.
I live, here's some rough pikmin stuff (I lost the file for the ship one though so im not sure if im ever gonna finish that)
