The DeValencia Legacy

The Beginning of it all...

A rose? He was wrong. I prefer sunflowers but not the typical yellow sunny looking ones. I love the complexity of a blood red sunflower. The intricate color scheme is too beautiful to ignore and to be honest, that is the only part of life I have ever loved. Mother nature is a killer artist in all its glory. She kills everything she loves, everything she creates. Sucha role model.

As soon as I arrived home I went straight to work. I have to admit I was feeling pretty darn lucky to live in such an advanced era that it only took me about four minutes on FaceNotes to find him as a suggested friend. He appeared to be the all-american guy. He had a passion for sports along with a quite lengthy line of whores craving a spec of his attention and probably thousands of his fortune. I wasted no time memorizing their names. He had not replied to any of their comments so he clearly he was not interested. I skimmed through his bio and learned that he liked Nirvana, a good ol’ plate of caviar, and “a woman with a gentle soul”. What an odd combination. Yet it did not surprise me, I’ve dealt with his type before. I’m guessing he is this emotional deep complex guy that had something so traumatic happen to him. Ugh now I’m going to have to deal with his mommy issues.

The transformation was not easy. I bottle of bleach along with a little Hennessy got me through it all. My jet black hair was now a gross sweet “gentle” light blonde. I was somewhat disappointed that my bold makeup had to change but in the end I had to do it. My lips had gone from a yummy deep red to a boring pink shimmer along with a neutral eye shadow to soften the look even more. I internally procrastinated when my wardrobe had to go too. I was now stuck with pastels and flats.

“This is it.” I whisper to myself as I stand in front of this mirror. A little part of me feels ridiculously bad for him. Jacobo, But I am a selfish creature. I walk down the stairs and out the door to my destiny.

The DeValencia Legacy

Fae’s Intro...

I could care less for the flavor of beer. Even at my lowest points, I always had a bottle of Jack Daniel’s by my side but the economy has not been kind and a girl does what a girl has to do. So, I find myself sitting here this lonely Thursday afternoon feeling the oily pungent liquid slowly slip down my throat and drop unsatisfactory into the hollow of my stomach. The glass door swings silently open and a gloomy looking guy drags himself in. He lifelessly strolls towards an empty chair next to mine. “Great...” I whisper loud enough for him to hear. His head confidently jerks my way, as if my annoyance snaps him out of whatever world his mind was in. He then proceeds to smirk like an idiot he probably is. I roll my eyes in the most exaggerated way and turn my body away from his, clearly shutting down any advances. Pffft! As if I have time for any of that.

“I’ll take a whiskey on the rocks.” He firmly sates yet smiles warmly at the bar tender. 

“Jacobo! Long time no see. Look at you. You are all grown up. Well, I recon’ it was just yesterday when we found you all by, err, I’m sorry, you know.” The bartender’s dark brows furrow in embarrassment as new shades of red leave and enter his cheeks. The guy, Jacobo I think, drops his gaze and just nods. The way he folds his arms across his chest clearly shows how uncomfortable he is. He clears his throat once and gives a long tired sigh. He begins speaking in an almost monotone and nonchalant way as if all his walls are suddenly up.

“Yes, it’s been minute but I had contracts to sign and checks to cash. Being Landraab’s heir is not easy. But I’ll tell you something, money makes me feel nothing. Not even a genuine smile.”

Landgraab? And just like that, my world gave a complete three-sixty. Of course this Jacobo has all the answers to my problems, all the money I ever desired but he can’t know the real me. It’s way too risky and a reputation follows like a nondiscriminatory shadow. I drain the last remnants of my PBR and slam the empty can down along with a five dollar tip. Jacobo just cocks one eyebrow and turns towards the bar tender seeking an answer to his silent question. “You don;t want to know her.” The bar tender replies under his breath. “She is the devil in disguise of a beautiful rose.”
