These are photos I did not take of piñatas I made for Oakland May Day 2016.
The top piñata features a half Alameda County Sheriff Gregory J Ahern, who detains displaced people and supports ICE raids, and a half Philippines National Police (PNP) Chief Ricardo C. Marquez who awarded various PNP who shot at indigenous farmers in Cotabato protesting for food after having starved in a drought for over 3 months.
The bottom piñata has two sides. The side in the photo is of Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf who has aided gentrification in numerous ways including: banning night marches, cutting funding to Black and Brown youth programs and trying to sell public land to private investors for luxury apartments. On the other side of Libby is Cotabato Governor Lala Mendoza who ordered the PNP to shoot at the starving farmers in protest for food.
Agitated youth against the government that serves the rich.
The youth are agitated with the police.
