Today I received an email regarding the application I submitted to become a volunteer ranger at Independence National Historic Park, and I got accepted! I still have to have a background check, and go to training which isn’t until November, but it’d an understatement to say that I’m excited! I’m beyond excited.

I love all things nature and history, and the ability to work with the National Park Service in a place doused in so much national history, well, it’s a dream come true. I cannot wait to get the ball rolling with this.

Though it’s only a volunteer position, I’m hoping it will lead to more in the future! 

Right now I’m just so excited to learn more about the park.

As the nation experiences a gas drilling boom, hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” has emerged as a fast-growing threat to our health and environment.  Fracking is the process used to extract natural gas from deep within the earth.  However, this process is contaminating average Americans’ clean drinking water, polluting the air, and threatening our environment. 

Not only is the Delaware River Basin a New Jersey icon where people go to hike, tube, and camp, but it also provides clean drinking water to 3 million New Jerseyans.  Fortunately, there is currently a temporary moratorium which protects the Delaware River Basin from the adverse effects of fracking, but this could be overturned at any time.  To ensure the protection of our clean water, we want this ban to become permanent.  That’s why we’re asking Senator Cory Booker to speak out to protect New Jersey from the dangerous effects of fracking.

Senator Cory Booker has come out as a hero for climate change and works in pursuit of a green economy.  Let’s build the public support so he can come out against fracking too.

So today, as a part of our fracking campaign to keep fracking out of the Delaware, we went to Senator Cory Booker’s office to see if we could get a public endorsement by him and his team, agreeing to publicly speak out against fracking.
