It's when I come back from school, exhausted as hell, only to find that the newest fic of Khaji Da / Jaime Reyes on AO3 is still the same one I saw before I left.
Anyway, I'm currently preparing a commemorative artbook/zine for my work — maybe I can finish it after graduation.
I want to die, but I don't want to die. I hate the feeling of being alive.
Jaime and Khaji being plural is so important to me. Their connection is indescribable. Jaime is Khaji and Khaji is Jaime but they're also very separate and they disagree and have different ways of going about things and different perspectives and identities, but they are both central to each other, they are both big pieces of the other's identity.
They are not themselves without the other. Not after all this time. Not after sharing a brain for so long, learning to work together, no. Not after all this.

The people around them have to learn to accept that there is no Jaime without Khaji and no Khaji without Jaime, and there is no heroic Blue Beetle without their harmony.
They are each other's other half, even if they had never imagined this happening. They are NOT a well-oiled machine, they are NOT always on the same page, they are NOT perfect, but they are together and they are Blue Beetle and they are the world to each other.
Don't get me wrong, there's some horror to be had here. But there's also some connection, some bond, some love.
Also like, yeah Khaji changed Jaime's life, but Jaime also changed the course of Khaji's existence too.

jaime thinks about and catastrophizes over the little things just as much as he does over the big things. it's not that he thinks the stakes of his mom finding out he skipped school are the same of the world ending, he genuinely has a very good perspective that, but on an emotional level, he feels emotional pain very strongly regardless of the situation. he also--i think somewhat intentionally--holds pretty much all life in very high regard, and therefore responds to a threat to a villain's life the same way he would respond to a threat to a hero's, or a civilian's, and so on. there is no battle too small for jaime reyes to fight. maybe not as the blue beetle, but in life.
jaime's backstory needs to stay solid in order for him to be the same character. not his character backstory--finding khaji can happen however you want, infinite crisis doesn't need to be involved, the reach can be doing whatever or not--but his personal background. if jaime is not trying to make his family proud (whether they're alive or not, whether they will ever know what he's doing or not, whether it's just his parents or them and milagro or a found family or whatever as long as there is someone he loves deeply) you're just writing a different guy.
jaime can have angst about khaji da and the scarab's presence both on his body and in his life. he has to grapple with what that means and he does initially want khaji da to be removed. they can have conflict over khaji's methods or jaime's desire to be normal. but khaji da will always forgive jaime for everything. jaime doesn't necessarily have to forgive the scarab if you're, idk, writing something about the reach killing the reyes family, but jaime does have to know khaji da thinks of him as a friend if this is set post-endgame.

A very accurate point.
But one thing worth noting is that the reason he forgives Jaime isn't just because he sees Jaime as a friend, but also because he isn't human—he doesn't truly "resent" Jaime's decisions in the human sense; he simply judges them as the host's foolish and inefficient choices.
So this can not only serve as an entry point for "emotional dependency," but also allow you to highlight Khaji Da's sense of non-humanity.
